Chapter 129: Chapter 119: Blessed Land

He brought people back overnight and started the interrogation immediately.

First, they swindled Saibu’s money. That’s right, they tricked him into bringing out the money first. So, at this step, they were very polite to Saibu.

But Saibu actually refused; he even audaciously demanded that he would pay upon arriving in the United States.

People like Grins, or the entire Secret Action Bureau, how could they possibly indulge Saibu’s antics? Since they had already reported an injury, they couldn’t possibly let Saibu leave alive.

If being soft didn’t work, they’d get tough. Just one word, fight.

Gao Yi and the others were waiting, while Luca was inside helping. He didn’t need to get involved, but once Saibu gave an account that could be used for the transfer, he had to hurry and verify it.

It’s all about the money; there could be no delays.

"Tonight’s shot was really dangerous. Thinking about it now, it’s quite frightening."

They were waiting anyway, so naturally, they were making casual conversation. Now that they were safe, Gao Yi could only think about the shot he had dodged.

Peter was very efficient, and quick-witted, so he became the leader of these five men. But when it came to flattery, he was actually quite average.

"Boss, that was amazing how you dodged that shot."

And then, there was no ’and then’.

After waiting for a moment, Lin Xianghua hesitated and then said, "Why did you suddenly lie down?"

Gao Yi twisted his neck, shrugged his shoulders, and said, "I can’t quite put my finger on it, I just felt really uncomfortable, and then I thought it would be best to lie down, so I did. Have you guys ever had that feeling?"

The others looked at each other, and then Derek, the medic, said very seriously, "I’ve had that once. But it wasn’t dodging a bullet. I was driving a car through a very familiar stretch of road, and I felt a strong sense of unease. So I stepped on the brakes and distanced myself from the vehicle in front, and then a roadside bomb exploded. That explosion killed three of my comrades."

Derek nodded and added, "It’s indeed a strange but very strong feeling."

Everyone kept nodding, then Peter remarked, "Indeed, I’ve heard many people say the same thing."

Gao Yi glanced at Cliff and asked, "What’s your take on that shot?"

Cliff exhaled and said, "A distance of about 1,200 meters. The sniper fired, and then the heavy machine gun opened fire. The sniper aims for maximum accuracy, while the machine gunner follows up immediately after the sniper fires. But human reaction takes time, so there’s a very short delay between the two shots. Normally, Saibu couldn’t have dodged that bullet. Even if the sniper hadn’t hit, the machine gun bullets should have. So this was a double sniper setup, a very rare tactic not because it’s not effective, but because it’s very difficult to execute."

A sniper’s professional analysis in his field of expertise. He looked at Gao Yi, hesitated, and then said, "Your intuition saved you. I’m absolutely certain you lay down after the shooter fired."

First the shot, then the lie down?

Gao Yi couldn’t help but exclaim, "You’re kidding?"

"No, at a distance of 1,200 meters, considering the Barrett M82A1’s muzzle velocity of 853 meters per second with a standard bullet, it would take roughly 1.5 seconds - you had ample time to get down."

After finishing, Cliff spread his hands and said, "I’ve studied the trajectory. Saibu would have been hit by the bullet, but at 1,200 meters the dispersion is already considerable. I don’t know what kind of gun the sniper used, but under those circumstances, I definitely wouldn’t choose to shoot at night at a target in a crowd. So, the sniper might not have been the first choice, the machine gunner was the main shooter. Meaning, if we search the sniper’s position afterward, we’re sure to find a heavy machine gun equipped with a scope."

Gao Yi was stunned for a moment and said, "A heavy machine gun, can also be fitted with a scope for sniping?"

Cliff nodded and responded, "Of course, this has been done since World War II."

Gao Yi felt even more frightened and subconsciously touched the back of his head, saying, "That’s really dangerous..."

"From a distance of 1,200 meters, no matter what gun the sniper used, no matter the type of bullet, no matter how good his gun skills were, no matter how good his night vision gear was, to be able to accurately identify the target and hit at that distance indicates he’s not just an outstanding sniper, but also incredibly lucky."

Sighing, Cliff said in a low voice, "So, your luck was just better. Or put it another way, those two snipers were just too unlucky to miss you."

Peter frowned and said, "Watch your words, how can you say it’s just ’luck’ that the boss dodged it!"

Cliff quickly said, "Sorry, that’s not what I meant, I apologize, I really didn’t mean that..."

Gao Yi gestured that it was okay, and just then, there was a sound of hurried footsteps outside, and the door was pushed open.

Luca burst in, took a breath, and said with urgency, "I couldn’t stand watching anymore, came here to take a break, damn it, this damned swindler actually has over four million in the bank, Falke!"

Gao Yi was astonished and said, "That much?"

Luca glanced at the few men and then said in a low voice, "We should be able to get a cut of it, but it’s sure to be a very small amount. There are too many people involved this time; no matter how much money there is, when divided among many, it won’t amount to much."

It seemed Luca was hinting at something. Gao Yi was still pondering his words when there came the sound of footsteps again. Grins appeared at the door; he didn’t bother with pleasantries and immediately said to Luca, "Go on, no rest for you. Another account came up."

Sighing, Luca got up and left. After he did, Grins spoke to Gao Yi in a low voice, "Big harvest, big harvest! We definitely don’t need to sleep tonight. If you guys are tired, go and rest; don’t worry, I’m here."

Gao Yi laughed and said, "It’s fine, we’ll wait. Buddy, I still have the same request, make sure not to kill the guy, I still have use for him."

Saibu definitely couldn’t leave alive, but he had to stay alive for Gao Yi.

There was no other reason; Gao Yi was still waiting to use Saibu in exchange for a bounty. Even if Gao Yi didn’t get a cent from the Secret Action Bureau, Saibu was worth five million dollars.

Grins rushed off again. After a moment, Peter couldn’t help but say, "He really does have money."

Gao Yi laughed and said, "Let’s keep talking. You said the main shooter was a machine gunner, but what kind of machine gun would have the accuracy nearly similar to a sniper rifle?"

Without hesitation, Cliff said, "An M2 can. Actually, an M2 has very high accuracy. The large spread comes from continuous firing; the first bullet is actually very precise..."

Before Cliff could finish his sentence, Grins, who had just left, unexpectedly burst back in, and he hurriedly said, "New information, unrelated to Saibu. We’ve found out that the people who acted tonight are from a Russian arms dealer. He has brought in two specialists and sent five men to Suaila this afternoon. He wants to kill Saibu. This information is pretty reliable."

Gao Yi couldn’t help but ask, "Are you guys still keeping track of these things?"

"There’s a Chinese with that arms dealer. I wouldn’t normally care about these things, but I have a feeling it might be the person you’re looking for."

Gao Yi gaped in surprise and said, "You’re kidding, what are the odds?"

Grins nodded and replied, "Don’t rush; once we have more information, we can confirm whether it’s the person you’re looking for. This arms dealer has been in Baghdad for many years and has close ties to the locals. It’s easy to find out if it’s the right person once we have the right contact."

After finishing his words, Grins once again said, "I just wanted to share this good news with you. We can discuss the details after the interrogation is done. Right now, Saibu is what matters."

Gao Yi nodded and replied, "Great, great. You guys continue the interrogation..."

Watching Grins hurry away again, Gao Yi was stunned for a moment, then suddenly said to Lin Xianghua, "What you want comes when you least expect it. Baghdad must be my lucky place."
