Chapter 107: Chapter 97 Expansion Method
There are no less than eight thousand gunsmiths in the United States, and for Gao Yi to have a gun custom-made, finding a gunsmith in Syria and bringing them back would surely be out of the question because he wasn’t that desperate.
All that was needed to commission a tailor-made gun that suited oneself and was of exceptional quality was money. No matter how high the price or how long the wait, as long as Gao Yi was willing to splurge, there would be no shortage of takers.
Upon hearing that Li Jie had run off to Syria, that meant this matter could be put to rest.
So Gao Yi was left with nothing to say.
However, Luca and Lin Xianghua had their own opinions.
Luca hesitated, and after a moment of indecision, finally said in a low voice, "The Middle East, what a great place."
Gao Yi’s eyes widened in shock and he blurted, "Huh?"
Luca spread his hands and explained, "If there’s a place where the Dark Web hasn’t made its impact yet, it’s the Middle East. The Middle Eastern people still prefer traditional methods of trading. Of course, they’ve got their own Dark Web, and there are those who visit ours, but relatively speaking..."
"Relatively speaking what?"
"They’re more suited to traditional, face-to-face transactions, and they pay higher prices too."
Luca spoke with a face full of emotion, "Especially those oil-producing countries—their tycoons really know how to spend money generously. But forget about Syria, that place doesn’t have any business."
After Luca finished speaking, Lin Xianghua expressed his sentiments with a sense of helplessness, "I know the Plunderers are in the Middle East, in Yemen. They took Saudi money to fight against Houthi’s Arms. Sigh, it’s a bit difficult to take my revenge."
Gao Yi was stunned for a while and then asked, "Are you trying to persuade me to go to the Middle East?"
Luca quickly said, "Don’t talk nonsense. Why go to the Middle East? We’re not in a hurry to make money or do business right now. Why would we go to such a place, especially since we’ve not really had any dealings there? Everything there is unfamiliar to me. I was just rambling about Syria, so don’t make any wild connections."
Lin Xianghua also gave an awkward smile and said, "Me too, just a casual remark. Besides, you guys wouldn’t help me seek revenge, would you? Even if you were willing, I couldn’t let you go to your deaths."
A task lacking a driving force couldn’t proceed.
Gao Yi wanted to buy a gun, and with money, he could buy from anywhere. Luca wanted to take on missions, but there were endless contracts to accept on the Dark Web. Lin Xianghua wanted revenge but didn’t want to risk his own life.
So, the Middle East was just talk and neither an option nor a possibility.
But since the topic had been brought up, it seemed only natural to extend the conversation a little further, or perhaps, to explore it a bit more.
Luca took out his phone and said, "Speaking of the Middle East, why don’t we see what missions are available on the Middle East’s Dark Web?"
Gao Yi had never before seen the Middle East’s Dark Web; in fact, until today, he didn’t even know it existed.
"What’s it like? Let me have a look."
Luca opened the website, which was in Arabic, but fortunately, a moderately decent site should be bilingual. Hence, there was an English version of the Middle Eastern Dark Web.
The site was quite crude, but the categories were clearly distinguished. However, Gao Yi didn’t see a specific section for assassins, yet he was taken aback by the booming activity on the Middle Eastern Dark Web.
"So many people!"
On the global Dark Web, hundreds of users discussing a topic were considered a very hot thread.
But on the Middle Eastern Dark Web, such discussions were commonplace.
The most rife trade on the Middle Eastern Dark Web was human trafficking, predominantly women, of course.
Luca spoke with a composed face, "The Middle Eastern Dark Web is relatively calm now. A couple of years ago, when ISIS was at its peak, it attracted the attention of the entire world. However, it’s still somewhat difficult to trade the goods listed there, so the Middle Eastern Dark Web’s influence remains limited to the Middle East."
Gao Yi exclaimed in horror, "The main trade on the Middle Eastern Dark Web is people!"
Luca nodded and said, "Women from ISIS-controlled areas, arms, mercenaries, plundered gold, and other valuable items—in that order, are the most traded goods on the Middle Eastern Dark Web."
Gao Yi snatched Luca’s phone to take a look.
Bloody, violent, dark—utterly dark, a veritable hell on earth.
Gao Yi was astonished and uttered, "This is just too... too..."
He couldn’t put it into words. While many atrocities occur in the world, seeing them presented so directly in front of him was something Gao Yi found hard to stomach.
Especially when he saw a thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl, stripped of her clothes, spinning in circles on command to show herself off, and the bidding starting at five hundred dollars, having risen through over seventy rounds of bidding to nine hundred dollars, he felt a profound sorrow from the depths of his heart.
Closing the webpage, Gao Yi handed the phone back to Luca, murmuring, "Enough, I can’t watch anymore. It’s too much."
Luca maintained a casual demeanor and said, "What’s the big deal? If you saw it in person, that’s what’s truly terrible, right, Lin?"
Lin Xianghua nodded, then seemed to be struck by a thought, his expression becoming extremely grave and pained.
Gao Yi breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Fortunately, ISIS is nearly finished. They’re done for."
Luca continued impassively, "Yes, so soon there will be fewer goods on the Middle Eastern Dark Web. The price of women is going up, while arms are getting cheaper. Huh, oh?"
Gao Yi looked at Luca, who appeared very surprised and said, "There’s actually a big job."
Flipping through his phone, Luca said with shock, "Look at this, to take out a Saudi General stationed in Yemen, they’re offering ten million dollars."
Gao Yi sneered.
To take out a General in an army camp?
Ha.
Luca kept flipping through the masses of irrelevant information, looking for useful assassin gigs. After more scrolling, he suddenly said, "This one, this one is really a big deal..."
Gao Yi didn’t really pay much attention, as this was just idle browsing.
Luca flipped the phone around again, looking bewildered, "To take out a con artist hiding in Baghdad’s Green Zone, they’re offering five million dollars!"
This intrigued Gao Yi.
Luca scratched his head, equally surprised, "The WTF, a guy who claims to be an arms dealer, scammed a Saudi prince out of four million dollars. He used to move around in Baghdad’s Green Zone, but now has disappeared and gone into hiding. Just for information on him, they’re offering five hundred thousand dollars; to kill him, a direct five million."
Gao Yi lost interest again and said, "If the man can’t be found, what’s the point of all that money?"
Yet Luca still looked utterly flabbergasted and exclaimed, "I... I might know where he’s hiding!"
Gao Yi and Lin Xianghua immediately turned to look at Luca, who picked up the phone, his face full of bewilderment, "Is God trying to make us rich or what? This guy’s name is Saibu Zaka, he’s of Iraqi origin, used to live in the UK, and most importantly, I know him, I know where his place in Baghdad is! And I know where his place in London is! Others might not know his background, but I do..."
