Chapter 103: Chapter 93: The Corrupt Detective

Richard coordinated the middle ground, persuading the police to send a representative to plant the evidence and, on the side, mentioned they were willing to give them half of the proceeds. The police then sent a representative.

This time, the police representative turned out to be an old man.

Gao Yi had anticipated everything, but he never expected the police to send an old man as their representative. The man appeared to be at least in his sixties or seventies, his hair and beard both white, looking listless and purposeless.

However, Martin and Richard became very excited upon seeing the old man.

Richard moved closer to Gao Yi and whispered beside him, "He is the evidence expert, Christopher Getney. Everyone at the Los Angeles Police Department calls him a master detective. He’s a real sleuth often employed by the FBI. The fact that he’s here shows that the Los Angeles Police have put forth their utmost sincerity. Do you know why he’s never agreed to join the FBI? Because he’s the biggest corrupt cop in Los Angeles."

After finishing, he patted Gao Yi’s shoulder, then Richard stepped forward to greet Christopher, extending his hand from a distance. After shaking hands, Richard pointed at Gao Yi and whispered a few words in Christopher’s ear.

Christopher glanced at Gao Yi, then walked directly over to him.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a sensible young man."

Christopher spoke with a bit of an old man’s haughtiness, but what he meant was to express his approval of Gao Yi.

After sizing up Lin Xianghua and then Luca, Christopher continued in a listless voice, "In Los Angeles, don’t mess with people you shouldn’t, and for those you can, just give a heads-up. We can cooperate."

Then, looking at Martin, Christopher continued, "The FBI, professional assassins, it’s been a while since such a solid cooperative relationship existed. Now I’m willing to join in. We can all make money together, but if you mess with people you shouldn’t, I’ll do what I have to do."

Gao Yi asked in a low voice, "Who are the people we shouldn’t touch, and who can we?"

Christopher was not displeased by Gao Yi’s question. He answered seriously, "Like those black thugs who are also drug dealers, you can kill at will tonight. But if it’s someone with status and position, don’t kill them. Don’t put the police in a difficult position. It’s that simple."

Gao Yi nodded in acknowledgment.

Christopher looked back and said to Richard, "If there’s any action next time, let me know in advance. I’ll do what I can. If I can’t, I won’t stop you, but I certainly won’t be involved. After the cleanup is complete, we’ll go in. You should act quickly, within ten minutes."

After speaking, Christopher said to Gao Yi, "You two are in charge of the execution, right? To save us the trouble, take my car over there. Here are the clothes to change into."

This old man commanded a strong presence, even though he was just responsible for finding things.

The police were already clearing the scene. Some were being taken away in patrol cars, while others left in their vehicles without being arrested.

Then there was a call in the walkie-talkie.

"Clearance complete. There are four individuals inside the room—all very important and troublesome fellows. Do not leave any survivors."

The police’s instructions were so clear and explicit that Gao Yi couldn’t help but want to laugh.

Taking on a designated mission was one thing, but he hadn’t expected to get on board with the FBI, and not just the FBI, but because of this cooperation, he’d even managed to connect with Los Angeles’s crooked cops.

Next, it was time to go to Walter’s house, take him out, plant the incriminating evidence, collect anything valuable, and it was done.

Three cars brazenly parked right in front of Walter’s house, and as usual, Lin Xianghua was the first to get out, charging towards the front door with an imposing manner, while Gao Yi, following second, decided not to use a hammer to break through this time.

There was no need to smash the door because this time, Gao Yi was dressed in a police uniform, a complete set, and Lin Xianghua was, too.

Gao Yi and Martin had gotten two sets of Los Angeles Police Department uniforms, thinking they might impersonate cops in the future, but before he had a chance to use this tactic, Christopher had already had them don them.

And they came openly in a patrol car.

Aren’t they afraid of cameras or anything?

Lin Xianghua didn’t carry his rifle up front; instead, he slung it under his arm, but he held a handgun in his right hand, which was standard procedure for a police officer making a visit. Nothing odd there.

Gao Yi knocked on the door heavily.

Soon, together with a string of curses, an exceedingly dissatisfied voice yelled from behind the door, "Who is it!"

"Police, open up!"

After saying that, Gao Yi lowered his voice, "Open the door without fuss if you don’t want trouble, otherwise it won’t just be the two of us next time!"

Whoever was behind the door wasn’t sure who he was talking to, but after muttering a few words, the door opened. A burly black man with a cap opened the door, his face full of hostility, "Why are you back so soon? Our party’s already over!"

"Shut up! Let Walter speak."

Gao Yi was very impatient as he pushed on the door and then, in a lowered voice, said, "You dumbasses don’t even realize the trouble you’ve gotten into?"

The burly black man stepped back, and Gao Yi stepped inside, with Lin Xianghua following with a stern face.

There were three people in the living room, all glaring at Gao Yi menacingly.

"If you keep looking at me, I’ll gouge out your eyeballs! Get Walter out here!"

Gao Yi didn’t say what he came for, but his demeanor was not that of a regular officer. Seeing that the three did not move, Gao Yi raised his voice and angrily said, "Do you want me to call for a surprise search?"

The three remained silent, but then someone inside shouted loudly, "Hey, officer, get a clue..."

A skinny little black man walked out, rhyming as he spoke, but paused when he saw Gao Yi, then said, "Who are you? I don’t recognize you."

Gao Yi gestured towards the three excluding Walter, meaning they were for Lin Xianghua. After pointing, he took two steps forward and whispered, "You bastard, you placed an order on the Dark Web. Now do you really plan to blab about the Dark Web?"

Walter suddenly opened his mouth wide, then exclaimed in shock, "I didn’t, I haven’t, uh, I won’t, I... I’ll correct it..."

The idiot is genuinely considering writing music.

Gao Yi exhaled, and then suddenly drew his gun and shot Walter at the top of his head.

The bang of a gunshot startled Walter, who then covered his ears and twisted around to run.

Could he really miss from this close range?

Continuous gunfire erupted behind him, and Gao Yi suddenly squeezed the trigger for another shot, watching as Walter almost made it into a room, then Lin Xianghua fired the fourth shot from behind, and so Walter screamed and fell onto the door frame.

Gao Yi quickly walked over and fired four shots at Walter’s back, all hitting the mark this time, but Walter still writhed, so he walked up close and fired a shot at the back of Walter’s head.

After a total of six shots, Walter was finally dead.

Gao Yi was somewhat irate and turned around to look at Lin Xianghua, "Is there something wrong with this gun?"

"Seems fine... uh, yes, there is something off with this gun. The trigger is too stiff. If you apply too much force, it throws off the aim, meaning... your force on the trigger made the barrel veer right, so it only hit his ear. There is really no need for so much force... but indeed, Glock triggers tend to be hard, since it’s a double-action pistol..."

Lin Xianghua cared for Gao Yi’s pride but couldn’t help correcting the shooting error. Yet, halfway through, he decided to spare his boss some face and once again blamed the hard gun trigger.

In reality, it was a novice mistake. Being too excited when firing, after all, shooting a person isn’t the same as shooting a target. And being so close actually leads to pulling the trigger even harder because a target in sight also means a threat right before you, naturally making one more tense.

After the gunshots, no need for a call, Martin and the others all rushed in.

Christopher had donned a pair of blue rubber gloves; he walked in, glanced at the three bodies all with headshots, and then at Walter. He specifically turned Walter over to check his face, then casually commented, "The gun skills need work."

At that moment, Martin stepped forward to take Gao Yi and Lin Xianghua’s pistols, carefully putting them in a plastic bag. Then, he pulled out another bag with pistols previously used by Gao Yi and others, the 1911s, and placed them in the hands of two corpses.

Christopher stood up and scanned the scene, then casually said, "The places black folks like to hide money are closets and under the bed. This place is Walter’s residence and his dealing center. Based on his personality, the cash should be in his bedroom. Let’s split up and search."

Richard quickly went upstairs, while Gao Yi and Lin Xianghua followed behind Christopher, who didn’t rummage around but marched steadily upstairs.

That old man had a venomous eye; he walked without stopping but suddenly halted when passing a room, then headed towards a room equipped with a gaming console, TV, and a few sofas. He opened the cabinet under the TV to reveal several bags of white powder.

Gao Yi couldn’t help but ask, "How did you figure that out?"

"There shouldn’t be a recreational lounge on the second floor, and if there is, it needs guarding. What place would these thugs watch all day without taking their eyes off?"

Pointing at the cabinet, Christopher disdainfully said, "Right here. But the amount is too little. Uh, according to Walter’s volume, his stash should be more than this. So, the cash proceeds might be bigger than I expected."

Just then, Richard shouted, "Found it!"

Everyone rushed over to Richard, pointing at the wardrobe doors he’d opened, "Safe!"

Christopher glanced at it, "Trouble, an old-fashioned dial lock safe, it takes at least twenty minutes to open. But the safe itself weighs eighty kilograms, uh, you guys, carry the safe away."

Everyone looked at each other, then Martin suddenly said, "Don’t just stand there, carry it. It’s only eighty kilograms, let’s move quickly."
