Chapter 398: Chapter 369: Meeting Part 2
Lin Fei sat quietly in the chair, his face calm.
After many days, major events of his past life began to resurface in his mind.
Though many had already deviated significantly from their original course, they still offered some reference value.
In his past life, Lin You would have needed to gather all his companions to possibly possess the strength to withstand Aisaha, who was a B-level Psychic, and might also have had a Holy Artifact. A mere D-level would be unable to resist at all unless they truly assembled everyone, with everyone massively increasing their strength. From this perspective, before encountering Aisaha, their group likely faced many other challenges that allowed them to grow and ultimately stand a chance in a confrontation with a B-level Psychic, albeit barely holding their own.
"It’s time to meet with Griffin...." Lin Fei murmured.
*****************
Underneath the Alps Mountain Range in Europe
The base of the Land of Titans
In a spacious garden, a male African lion, the size of a rhinoceros, lay lazily on the lush green grass, a ring of majestic black mane around its neck.
Griffin was dressed in a white, tight-fitting animal trainer’s outfit, carrying a large bucket, and was ladling water onto the lion.
The giant lion shook its head from time to time, flinging droplets of water off.
Roar!!
The lion growled softly, impatiently turning its body to prevent Griffin from pouring water on it.
"You rascal!" Griffin chuckled and cursed, slapping the lion on the head. There was a thud, as if hundreds of kilos had abruptly fallen to the ground. The lion’s eyes rolled back, and it toppled over, clearly knocked out.
Now unimpeded, Griffin began watering calmly, rinsing and scrubbing the lion.
"My Lord, the First Councillor’s communication request." A virtual image of a blonde woman in white appeared beside Griffin.
"The First Councillor? With two hours before the struggle for dominance, what does he want now?" Griffin asked nonchalantly.
"He says it’s just a personal inquiry," the woman whispered.
"Connect me," Griffin responded without looking back.
"Alright."
The image of the woman vanished instantly.
A blurry golden figure with a faint golden mist appeared behind Griffin. As the mist dissipated, Lin Fei stood calmly on the grass, his gaze falling on the massive lion.
"Lord Griffin seems to be in good spirits," Lin Fei said, shifting his gaze to Griffin. "The Titan Lion King Beast is one of the fiercest creatures in the Inner World, a species on the brink of extinction."
"I collect anything associated with the word ’Titan,’" Griffin said, turning around and handing his bucket and dipper to a servant who stepped forward. "What’s up? It’s about to start, and you have time to come to me?"
"It’s about the Metal Scepter," Lin Fei stated blandly.
"The Metal Scepter? The current Contractor?" Griffin asked casually.
"Yes."
"Seems like it was that young man named Kelan, right?" Griffin seemed to recall.
"Indeed, his name is Kelan. As you know, I’m highly interested in the Energy Scepter," Lin Fei alluded briefly.
"Although I’d indeed like to help you, there’s nothing I can do," Griffin said with a smile. "Kelan isn’t under my control. The United States isn’t mine alone."
"A tip, then. I need to know the specific target," Lin Fei stretched out his right hand, a small spiral pattern appearing in the palm. "Your conflict with the Screw Tower—I can have my people move to resolve it."
"The Screw Tower..." Griffin frowned. "With your involvement, it would indeed be a great help to me, but as I said, I really can’t do anything. Kelan is not within my influence, though I can introduce you; that guy is not easy to deal with. I really don’t like him."
"That’s also fine," Lin Fei nodded.
"The Fire God Cult is a byproduct he created; that guy is a top-level figure in the Psychic community in the United States. In fact, much as I hate to admit it, the truth is, his strength and influence in America do surpass mine. Kelan is a research project that one of his trusted subordinates personally established, with a high level of importance. I suggest you try to make contact first, but don’t get your hopes up too high," Griffin said, evaluating someone this way for the first time.
Lin Fei felt the situation was getting tricky. He had assumed that with Griffin’s influence, bringing up Kelan would be a trivial matter, but things seemed to be getting complicated.
"What’s his name?"
"Hannas, Hannas Bermington," Griffin said, drying his hands with a towel. "This man has a bad temper. Although we have a good relationship, we often quarrel. We grew up together as childhood buddies, but even that relationship is strained; not to mention with others." Griffin gestured, "Come with me."
Following Griffin, Lin Fei left the simulated garden zone and entered a metal corridor.
The two walked one after the other through the corridor, and the white-clad staff members they passed bowed respectfully, their demeanor natural and gentle, calm and self-assured, obviously accustomed to significant events.
Following the silver metal corridor, the two entered a vast control room.
Just like a cinema, a huge screen faced the control console.
The room was empty and dark.
As soon as Lin Fei and Griffin stepped inside,
the metal door closed automatically behind them.
Click!
The control room suddenly lit up.
"Welcome, Lord Griffin and the First Councillor. All communications in this special communication room will be verified through voiceprints."
A synthetic female voice suddenly rang out, then fell into silence again.
Griffin walked up the steps on the side and began to explain, "This is one of the communication rooms I use most, with the highest security. Even I only have a dozen or so of these rooms; they’re incredibly expensive. The transmission signals are encrypted at the highest specification, effectively preventing detection and interference from Psychics and electronic sources."
There were three consoles, arranged in a triangular formation, and Griffin naturally walked to the one in the front.
"I’ll transmit your image directly to him. You’ll do the negotiating yourself. That guy has been around on that land long before the United States was founded. He’s tough as nails—an absolute nuisance," Griffin shrugged. "Don’t forget the time set for our departure; our mark is still on you."
"Of course," Lin Fei nodded. They absolutely needed Kelan’s help for Lin You and the others. Although he was unclear how, in a past life, Lin You and the others managed to rescue Kelan without inciting the wrath of this mysterious, formidable entity that even Griffin found troublesome, the world had changed, and he could no longer rely on the inertia of the past—he had to be proactive and careful.
Griffin lightly pressed a button on the console.
Lin Fei’s surroundings immediately spun wildly, and countless scenes flashed by rapidly. In an instant, he had arrived somewhere else.
Underfoot lay an endless green grassland, the faint scent of fresh grass permeating the air.
A gentle breeze brushed against the skin—warm, without a hint of chill.
In view was an expanse of green as far as the eye could see, as if the entire earth was painted in a single color.
The sky was a clear blue, so pure it seemed unlike Earth’s. Layers of white, ladder-like clouds drifted slowly across the sky.
Chirp!
A few birds called out, flapping their wings as they flew over Lin Fei’s head.
In the direction in front of Lin Fei, a solitary gray stone tower stood on the grassland.
The tower seemed as though it had been there for ages, naturally exuding a sense of historical weight.
"Welcome! A visitor from afar," said an old man in a gray cloak from a window on the second floor of the tower, gazing toward Lin Fei.
The old man held a slender brown staff, and his clothes were grimy, as if they hadn’t been washed in a long time.
Lin Fei nodded.
"Sorry to disturb," he said. He strode into the stone tower.
The inside of the tower was very bright, beams of light streaming in through the windows like columns of illumination. Dust motes floated in the light, highly visible.
A thick layer of dust had accumulated on the floor, feeling somewhat soft to the step.
Lin Fei slowly made his way up the stairs at the corner of the tower.
The tower was full of windows without glass, almost like an entirely open observation tower.
On the second floor, the gray-robed old man stood quietly by a window, his back to the staircase that Lin Fei was ascending.
"Even if you are a friend of Griffin, protocol must be followed. What do you want from me? And what do you plan to exchange for it?" the old man said softly.
"The Metal Energy Scepter. That’s why I’m here," Lin Fei replied calmly.
"The Energy Scepter? Don’t you know about Griffin’s example?" the old man asked, surprised.
"What’s that got to do with me?" Lin Fei’s voice grew deep, "I am me, and he is he."
"Heh, you’ve got spirit. The Temple of the Gods and the Holy See gave up on the Energy Scepter, and yet you still hold onto hope." The old man turned around, facing Lin Fei.
The gray of the stone tower and his gray robe almost seemed to merge into one, making it somewhat difficult to distinguish between them.
"What if I refuse to give it to you? What will you do then?" he asked with interest.
"Refuse me?" A slight movement flickered in Lin Fei’s eyes.
"I’ll find another way. There’s no one in the world without desires; to live is to desire. Even you have goals and wishes you want to fulfill."
"Well said," the old man nodded. "Many know this, but few put it into practice because nobody can precisely know what others want."
He stared directly into Lin Fei’s eyes.
"What I see in your eyes is sharpness. Do you know why Griffin dislikes dealing with me? It’s because of these eyes," the old man pointed to his own eyes.
"My eyes can see through people’s hearts. Even he can’t escape it. Nobody likes having their secrets exposed."
Only then did Lin Fei pay close attention to the old man’s eyes—pupils like two black whirlpools, slowly rotating, almost perfectly spherical in shape, giving off a very strange sensation.
"In the records of the Holy See, I am known as a demon. Our eyes are black, the root of seduction to corruption; we have cloven hooves, black wings. Do you know my true name?" the old man started to laugh sinisterly.
"I am Shaliye, King of the Evil Eye, we are the great Dark World Alliance..." he spread his arms slightly. "I have long anticipated our meeting. The First Councillor of gold, gold should have an alliance with us. We only have one common enemy, and that is the Holy See."
Lin Fei narrowed his eyes as he looked at him.
"A demon? Heh..." He lifted his hand, and a slow surge of Blue Flame appeared on his arm.
Whoosh!
The flame burst forth, morphing into countless ghostly faces and ferocious shadows that crazily tried to break free from Lin Fei’s body but were repeatedly forced back by an invisible restraint.
"If we’re talking about demons, then I am one too," he said calmly.
"The time is not yet ripe. We are about to unite the entire Dream Eater World. Gold will become the highest temple for the strongest Dream Eaters in the world!! We’ll talk about the alliance then."
"Is that so?" Sullivan smiled with rising black smoke billowing behind him. "Then, I look forward to our next meeting." He began to dissolve, fading into numerous wisps of black air.
Lin Fei turned and slowly descended the stairs. The Blue Flame instantly flared up, and he dissolved into countless blue specks of light and vanished. (To be continued.
