Chapter 389: Chapter 362 Beginning 1_2

Ye Yuhua nodded.

The two retraced their steps along the path that Lin Fei had carved out. After walking for several hundred meters, they finally returned to the entrance cave from earlier.

A group of people was guarding the newly opened passageway, looking anxiously inside.

It was Annie, Ban, and the golden bat Rabbi among them.

As they neared, the sound of their conversation carried over to them.

"We should rush in to help the Lord now!! We shouldn’t be wasting time here!" Rabbi said gravely.

"As Spatial System experts, that level of power is not something we can meddle with. With the strength and ability of the First Councillor, there certainly won’t be a problem. I think we should wait here for the Lord’s return," Annie said earnestly.

"That’s right! The Lord is merely a projection, while we are the real bodies, and if we fail and die..." Ban didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone understood the implication.

Given that they each belonged to Dark Night Castle and the Bronze Titan troops, they were not Lin Fei’s direct subordinates, and naturally, there was no need for them to risk their lives for Lin Fei.

Lin Fei and Ye Yuhua slowly emerged from the passageway, sweeping their gazes over the people in front of them.

Annie and Ban awkwardly avoided Lin Fei’s gaze, while Rabbi lowered his helmet, not daring to make eye contact.

This was the difference in not being one’s own subordinate.

Lin Fei’s heart remained calm. Had they been his direct subordinates, such a situation would never have arisen. However, this time, these two groups each represented their own forces, so it was a different matter altogether.

"Where have the Holy See and the heretical forces gone?" he asked without addressing the previous issue.

"They’ve already broken through The First Layer, and now they’ve definitely entered The Second Layer," someone from the external affairs military reported.

"Good, let’s catch up," Lin Fei said solemnly.

Ye Yuhua followed behind him, saying nothing.

The two turned and started walking towards the direction of the original entrance cave.

Annie and Ban exchanged glances without speaking any further, merely waving their hands quietly to signal everyone to follow.

The golden bat Rabbi, along with ten others, kept a slightly greater distance from Lin Fei. Since they had already made their position clear on this matter, there was no need to pretend any longer.

The group followed behind Lin Fei.

Ban suddenly sent a telepathic message to Annie.

"Just now... did you see... that Longsword...."

"I saw it," Annie replied imperceptibly. The four-meter-long slender longsword, like a silver-blue thread, had the extreme sharpness in Lin Fei’s hands that seemed able to cut through anything, a feeling she could still vividly recall. What shocked her most was Lin Fei’s speed, which seemed akin to Teleporting.

Almost the moment Lin Fei vanished, Annie, Ban, and Rabbi all instinctively took a step back, feeling a trace of coldness on their necks.

Even they had been unable to discern the trajectory of Lin Fei’s movement, not even a slight trace!

This denoted one thing: if Lin Fei wanted to kill them, it could be done in an instant.

The moment this thought surfaced, the three of them felt a hint of coldness.

"Even if A-rank champions are extremely powerful, it’s impossible for a projection to easily dispose of B-rank champions." Annie still believed Lin Fei to be a projection. "To effortlessly kill B-rank champions with the power of a projection, aside from Lord Griffin, it turns out the First Councillor can do so as well... Indeed, none of those who manage to become the four major councillors are simple..."

"That’s right, we must be extremely careful in what’s ahead. Although we belong to Lord Griffin’s troops, our recent actions have already displeased the First Councillor," Ban communicated telepathically.

Annie nodded slowly.

She suddenly looked at Rabbi, the strong man from Dark Night Castle, who was also slightly bowing his head, his presence feeling somewhat grave. It seemed he too had realized the gravity of the situation.

A group of people followed Lin Fei and another person into the cave.

The entire cave was a little more than one person tall and two people wide, somewhat narrow.

From the beginning, both the ground and the cave walls were of a pure grey-black color with no hint of luster, and bursts of cold wind continuously blew out from the depths of the cave, making it appear somewhat dry and chilly.

The blue luminescent water plants that had been everywhere gradually disappeared, replaced by a kind of mushroom emitting a white luminescence. These mushrooms each had huge umbrella-like caps, growing in the corners on the ground like small stools, adding a fair bit of brightness to the cave.

An external military staff member carrying a searchlight shone it where Lin Fei and the others went, and these mushrooms seemed to have a very clear reaction to the light. When they came into contact with the bright light, they would instantly retract their caps like a closed umbrella, causing the luminescence to naturally disappear.

As Lin Fei moved, he casually summoned True Force to grab a small mushroom, and as soon as it fell into his palm, he felt the surface of the mushroom actually emitted a faint chill.

"Sir, this type of mushroom is called Ice Umbrella; it can naturally absorb thermal energy and use it as a source of life, only appearing in areas with a significant amount of heat," Annie stepped forward and explained, "Don’t be fooled by the small palm-sized Ice Umbrella, it absorbs an amount of heat every minute equivalent to that released by burning coal of the same volume."

Lin Fei nodded. He had not imagined that the outer world would also have such incredible and peculiar species. Casually discarding the mushroom in his hand, the group continued to move forward.

Soon, the cave walls grew increasingly red, and the mushrooms on the ground began to multiply quickly, almost filling up half the passage.

In the air, the bursts of cold wind turned warm, mixed with a sulfuric scent.

The cave ahead brightened up, glowing with waves of red light, eliminating the need for further illumination.

Lin Fei could clearly feel waves of heat rushing toward his face. His vision was filled with patches of red light, and together with the wind, a rustling sound reached his ears.

"Up ahead is the Earth Fire Ant nest, everyone be careful!" Ban shouted loudly.

After taking a few turns along the cave, an exit suddenly appeared ahead, strong red light shining in from the exit, accompanied by waves of scorching airflow. Despite the white-glowing Ice Umbrella mushrooms on the cave walls and ground, the cold air they emitted was completely overwhelmed by the heat wave.

Lin Fei quickly approached the exit along the cave.

In the mushroom clusters on the ground, a bloody severed arm lay on the right side, fresh blood staining the surrounding mushroom caps and some of the Ice Umbrella mushrooms appeared crushed. A white luminescent substance oozed all over the ground, looking somewhat disgusting.

The moment they walked out of the cave passage.

A dense rustling sound immediately filled their ears.

In a huge, red-tinted cave, ranks of half-human-height, dark red ants moved orderly throughout the cavern. These ants were like enlarged versions of ordinary ants, with shiny red carapaces gleaming even more under the red light. The rustling sound emanated from them.

The cave structure was simple, directly opposite the exit was a dark cave, from this side one could clearly see the winding downward passage on the other side, with various man-made devices scattered around on the ground, evidently left by the people who had been here before.

However, the path was completely blocked by the dense mass of hundreds, if not thousands, of these half-human-height ants.

Lin Fei even noticed among these red giant ants, one ant was dragging the body of a man who seemed to have not been dead for long toward a small hole on the side, apparently preparing to take it back for storage as food.

"What do we do now, Sir?" Ban asked.

"Charge straight through," Lin Fei said indifferently, glancing at Ye Yuhua next to him.

The latter understood the cue, extending both arms to wrap around Lin Fei’s arm, leaning her whole body against him.

Lin Fei wrapped his arm around Ye Yuhua’s waist, a flash of blue light appearing in his eyes.

The two of them instantly blurred.

When they reappeared, they were already at the cave entrance on the opposite side.

Letting go of Ye Yuhua, Lin Fei turned around and scanned the astonished faces of the people opposite him.

"The external military stays put, Bat Squadron, along with Annie and Ban, follow me,"

Leaving behind a sentence, Lin Fei, with Ye Yuhua, vanished into the passage, disappearing from sight. Passing through the First Layer was incredibly easy for him.

After traveling a distance through the cave passage, another space the size of a public square appeared in front of Lin Fei, but what was different here was that the cave walls were densely packed with countless small holes, and fiery red Fire Snakes continuously drilled in and out.
