Chapter 321: Chapter 303 Speechless Part 1
Bucharest Airport
A convoy of cars slowly stopped at the airport entrance, and with the banging of doors opening and closing, several individuals clad in black robes and suits alighted one after another.
The scorching sun shone on the black sedans, seeming to raise the temperature around them.
Alice emerged slowly from the car. She frowned as she moved away from the vehicle; the waves of heat from its body felt oppressive, and she could feel sweat beginning to form on her face, which she had only washed that morning.
Her Aunt Yilian was right beside her, strangely without a single drop of sweat.
"Aunt, aren’t you hot?" Alice unconsciously moved closer. Instantly, a faint cool breeze emanated. A refreshing chill spread through her body.
"You feel it, right?" Aunt Yilian said with a smile.
"What is this...?" Alice had just begun to ask.
"When we return, I’ll recommend you as a squire knight. Then you will understand," Aunt Yilian said gently as she stroked Alice’s hair.
"Okay," Alice nodded firmly.
The pair followed closely behind the black-robed individuals, the group entering the airport lobby and proceeding through a side VIP passage.
"Koya, what did you bring Annie? I think I saw you buy a small black jewelry box yesterday, right?" A clergy member beside Alice whispered to one of their companions.
"You saw wrong! That was a gift I bought for my grandmother."
"Really? What about Angus? He disappeared into thin air last night, shrouded in mystery. Surely he was up to something clandestine, right?"
A blond youth nearby said with a smile, "Just went for a walk to clear my mind."
"Really? You lad... I clearly saw!"
"Hey, hey, hey! You two, mind the effect you’re having!"
Watching the senior clergy ahead joking around, Alice looked at them enviously. The black robes they wore signified their formal status—something she, not even a squire, couldn’t wear, and even her dear Aunt Yilian was just an ordinary squire. Compared to them, she and her aunt were like the difference between full-time employees and cleaners in a company.
"Alright, quiet down," the old priest leading the way turned back and spoke softly.
"Yes, Crus," the younger individuals said respectfully, bowing their heads.
The Holy See’s group moved swiftly through the lobby.
For some reason, as Alice passed through the lobby, she felt as if she saw something familiar. Her peripheral vision seemed to catch a glimpse of something.
"What exactly was it?" As she entered the VIP passage, she looked back again at the crowded lobby behind her.
In the midst of the crowd, a slender figure stood quietly, looking this way, as if everything around was merely his backdrop.
A tremor ran through Alice’s heart. Looking more closely, it was the same eerie young tourist she had seen in the Clan Leader’s Cathedral.
His fair complexion, his well-proportioned body. Alice noticed that the young man seemed to be smiling, watching her intently. She couldn’t help but feel her cheeks flush; she smiled back politely.
The man also smiled back at her gently.
"Alice, what are you looking at? Let’s go," Aunt Yilian’s voice suddenly came.
Alice quickly turned her face away.
"It’s nothing, Aunt. I just saw a strange person."
"A strange person? Who?" Aunt Yilian said with a chuckle, playfully pinching Alice’s cheek, "Focus. We’re about to board, don’t get distracted."
"Yes," Alice responded respectfully, her eyes darting back to where she had seen the young man, who had now disappeared.
For some reason, she had an inexplicable feeling that she would see that man again.
"Let’s go, stop your wild thoughts," Aunt Yilian laughed.
Following close behind the group, they walked along the brightly lit corridor.
Alice clutched the document bag in her hand; this was the most important thing she had, and the key to whether she could become a formal squire when she returned.
As the group reached a corner, with Alice and the others at the end of the line, it seemed that just as they rounded the corner, Alice felt something momentarily block her document bag.
She looked down at the document bag in her hand, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"Is something the matter?" A gentle voice came from behind her.
Alice turned around, and the same young man from earlier stood there, smiling at her position.
"It’s nothing," she said quickly, smiling politely.
"Alice, who are you talking to?" Aunt Yilian’s voice came over again.
Alice quickly turned back.
"It’s nothing, Aunt."
Yilian looked at her quizzically.
"What were you just saying to Czech?"
Alice was startled.
"Czech? What Czech? Aren’t they walking up front?"
"What do you mean ’up front’?" Aunt Yilian’s face wore an even more bewildered expression. "They have always been behind you."
"Behind me?" Alice turned to look; she was not at the back of the line but in the middle. Behind her was a dense crowd of black-suited individuals, and a chill abruptly gripped her heart.
"I was clearly at the very back just now..." she murmured, her face pale.
"Are you okay? You’ve been acting strange since a while ago," Yilian placed her hand on Alice’s forehead. "You don’t have a fever, do you?"
"No, Auntie, I just saw a young man I had seen in the church before, he greeted me, and I just turned around to say a word to him," Alice explained.
"A young man? Where did you see him?" Yilian was stunned.
"Right in the corridor, just a few steps behind us," Alice hurriedly explained.
"Impossible! After we enter the corridor, a member of the staff seals it for five minutes, there’s no way anyone could follow us in," Yilian stated emphatically.
"How can that be!!" A chill went down Alice’s spine. "But I clearly saw just now..."
Suddenly, the crowd ahead parted, and a young priest with blonde hair walked over. In his hand, he held a thick book resembling a dictionary,
"What’s the matter? Yilian, you two hurry up and follow. Don’t dawdle."
"Yes," Yilian and Alice both bowed their heads and answered simultaneously.
"Let’s go."
With a feeble response, Alice, her face somewhat pale, kept moving forward.
***************
On an airplane heading to Hua Nation.
Lin Fei gently stretched out his hand.
A tiny door lay quietly in his palm, covered with a layer of True Force invisible to the naked eye, completely blocking its energy from emitting any fluctuations.
"Easy as pie," he smiled. That was the Dream Eater’s ability, impossible to guard against; if he wished, he could even kill the girl named Alice directly in her dreams.
Although acquiring the mark meant Alice was likely to be made a scapegoat by the Holy See, such is the way of the world.
A look of indifference surfaced in Lin Fei’s eyes. To obtain something, one must be prepared to stop at nothing. This is true for everything. Lin Fei had a vague awareness of this, perhaps to avoid the same mistakes from his past life, or maybe to protect his family and loved ones, or perhaps because of that faint, inexplicable flame in his heart. Even if many innocents had to be sacrificed, it was worth it to him.
The little door immediately sank back into his palm and disappeared.
"Brother, did you say something?" Feil, sitting beside him, asked puzzledly.
"Nothing much," Lin Fei smiled, "I just feel that this trip is quite enjoyable, very relaxing."
"Really?" Feil blinked.
As soon as they boarded the plane, she had asked to sit next to Lin Fei. She faintly felt that the aura emanating from Lin Fei was becoming increasingly attractive to her, like an almost irresistible temptation that gave off a warm and comfortable sensation.
"Brother, can I lean on you to sleep for a while?" Feil asked softly with her eyes wide open. "I am so sleepy, I didn’t sleep well last night."
"Then rest well," Lin Fei said tenderly.
"Okay."
Feil softly responded.
She leaned into Lin Fei’s embrace. Her black hair cascaded over Lin Fei’s hand like tassels. Feil unconsciously curled up, snuggling next to Lin Fei. A mysterious, cozy warmth continuously emanated from Lin Fei.
Lin Fei glanced at Feil with some curiosity, but did not dwell on her strange behavior.
His attention was now focused on the mark of Elisa’s Gate, which had entered his body.
The mark had given him some vague fragments before, but now that it was truly in his possession, the mark within Lin Fei began to merge at an extremely slow pace, and streams of pure pseudo-True Force were continuously released, blending into Lin Fei’s True Force Core.
Sitting ahead were Lin You and Chris.
The two sat in silence, utterly at a loss for words. Chris was naturally reticent, and Lin You wasn’t much of a conversationalist either. Thus, an inevitable lull in the conversation ensued.
After some silence, Lin You finally spoke.
"Chris, do you want something to eat?"
"..." Chris shook her head slightly at her.
"..."
"..."
"Hehe... By the way, do you have any hobbies you like?" Lin You clapped her hands and asked. If she could engage her interest, maybe they could liven up the atmosphere, right?
"Long-distance running..." Chris said softly.
Lin You’s expression froze momentarily and she found herself speechless once again.
Looking around, Merrill and Cheng Guang on the right were discussing some technical issues, spewing a string of English jargon rapidly; it was so fast, Lin You couldn’t keep up, it sounded like gibberish to her.
Behind her, Feil was lying contentedly half-in Lin Fei’s arms asleep, while Lin Fei himself flipped through a magazine with a smile on his face. The atmosphere was harmonious.
Not noticing Feil was fine, but once she did, Lin You also began to feel a warm and comfortable sensation coursing through her body, making her want to sleep unconsciously.
She yawned softly and was about to lay her head down on the tray table to sleep.
"By the way, Xiao You, where’s your black cat? I haven’t seen it," Lin Fei suddenly asked.
"Isn’t it right by you.." Lin You almost blurted out, then quickly covered her mouth, "I...I left it with a classmate."
"Really?" Lin Fei asked, puzzled, feeling that the black cat seemed to have a significant connection with the Energy Scepter. It was a pity there was not enough detailed information, otherwise, he could learn much more. (To be continued.
