True Solution of the Sword Dao -
Chapter 267 - 255: Pursuit Part 1
Chapter 267: Chapter 255: Pursuit Part 1
Countless blue currents suddenly exploded, scattering in all directions like flowing water. Some team members who couldn’t dodge in time were struck by the currents and instantly turned into charred remains.
Fangs’s entire skin was riddled with bloody fissures, clearly the result of an overwhelming impact his physique couldn’t withstand.
Screams of agony from the team members were continuous in his ears, mixed with the relentless firing of submachine guns and pistols. The whole forest was a cacophony of noise.
An insubstantial shadow darted past one team member after another who were fiercely attacking. With each flash, a person fell. The wounds were either on the throat or between the eyebrows, but most were in the heart.
Fangs watched, his eyes almost splitting with rage.
"Niqi!!" he bellowed.
Niqi next to him reacted even faster. Before Fangs could even speak, Niqi quickly drew a semicircular electric arc with both hands. The arc instantly expanded, emitting a piercing blue light that enveloped all the team members. In an instant, they vanished.
Suddenly, a silver blade pierced mercilessly into a tree trunk, going straight through it.
Lin Fei drew out the Longsword, glanced around, and found everything empty. If it weren’t for the copious amounts of blood spattered on the ground, it would seem as though the group of people he just saw had never existed.
"What a nuisance. That Niqi must be a natural-born spatial ability user." He felt the residual aura, whether it was True Force or the fake one, its sensitivity to energy far exceeded that of any other energy in this world.
"This way!" Lin Fei looked toward the mountain top and disappeared in an instant.
*************
Hiss...
After a flash of blue electricity, on a slope not far from the mountain top, surrounded by trees, a thick lawn enveloped by a ring of blue electric arcs suddenly spread out.
The members of the Fangs Mercenary Group appeared directly in this clearing.
At the edge of the clearing, a few men in Fangs uniforms stood, and upon seeing the horrific state of those who teleported in, they were shocked. They hurriedly took out first aid kits to help treat the wounded.
Niqi, supporting Fangs, stood in the middle of the group, his expression gravely serious. "All pigeons, cover and leave, take the left side down the mountain! Fast! Move it!! Don’t linger here!"
He glanced at the current situation, in just that instant earlier, that shadow-like man swiftly struck more than a dozen of the Mercenary Corps’ team members with a sword each, including the leader Fangs,
In the blink of an eye, the entire Mercenary Corps was decimated by more than a dozen people, and now they had only just fallen to the ground after teleporting, blood flowing profusely.
At this moment, the members of the Fangs Mercenary Corps, although no extra sounds came out, the panic and unrest in their hearts could be seen through everyone’s eyes. The sudden encounter with an enemy against which they were utterly powerless was a massive blow for anyone.
Upon hearing Niqi’s command, everyone immediately began to sprint towards the forest on the left.
"How could a B-rank strongman appear!!??" Fangs gasped for breath, that man’s casual sword stroke earlier had killed everyone except for him. Even so, he now faced massive trauma, with muscles and skin on his body ruptured and his internal organs in aching pain.
"Must be a strongman with the same target as ours," Niqi said coldly, "Someone must have discovered our whereabouts."
"Now is not the time to worry about that." Fangs’s body continuously flickered with wisps of electric light, emitting a smell of burnt flesh as he used the high temperature of the electric current to cauterize the countless still-bleeding wounds to prevent a massive loss of strength and energy. "Niqi, how many more times can you teleport consecutively?"
"With such a large-scale teleportation, only once more. After all, there are so many people, and the consumption has been too great. The distance won’t be too far. Should we abandon the mission?" Niqi spoke calmly, "Given the current situation, we can’t avoid considering this issue."
"The question is, even if we give up, will others believe us?" Fangs said with a bitter smile.
Whew...
A breeze swept through the entire forest, stirring up the rushing sound of the tree leaves.
A few pale-faced team members were checking their equipment while running, suddenly grunted, and fell flat on the ground.
"Ambush!!!" a voice just started before it abruptly ceased.
"Damn it!! It’s him again!!" Fangs fumed, "Niqi!! Only take the living, hurry!!"
Suddenly, a blue electric arc spread out, enveloping all the mercenaries present.
"Trying to escape?" A cold voice faintly followed the moment of teleportation. Niqi suddenly felt a chill all over, a stabbing pain in his forehead alarming him; he instantly unleashed the electric current in his body to its limit.
Clang!!
The Black Demon Sword flew and stabbed into a large tree trunk, with a trace of fresh red blood slowly dripping down from the edge of the Blade.
The clearing was filled with the bodies of those in black, the thick pungent smell of blood pervading the air.
Lin Fei pulled out the Black Demon Sword, expressionless.
****************
At the foot of Taal Volcano
After a ring of blue electric arcs, a group of people in black abruptly materialized inside the household.
Fangs was gasping for breath violently.
"How are you, Niqi?"
"Squad leader, I’m afraid I can’t help you anymore," Niqi replied with a bitter smile.
Fangs was startled and raised his head to glance at Niqi.
A spot of blood red was slowly spreading from the center of Niqi’s forehead. Blood was seeping out bit by bit, flowing down the bridge of his nose, and dropping onto the back of Fangs’ hand.
"I’ve been struck by a sword. I estimate I can hold on for another ten minutes," Niqi said calmly.
Boom!
Fangs punched the bark of a nearby tree with ferocity. The wound on his hand split open again, splattering blood. His face was contorted in extreme ferocity.
"Ah!!!" Fangs growled lowly, "I won’t let you die!! We’ll go find Black Bee!! He should be able to save you!"
"There’s no need," Niqi said calmly, scanning the last dozen or so people by his side. In the brief contact just a moment ago, over ten more had died on the spot.
Some squad members were nervously stuffing small, white pills into their mouths. A few others were holding something and praying incessantly. And some sat on the ground, deathly silent, silently wiping their weapons.
The atmosphere in the squad, while still solemn as always, had become oppressively tense. Were it not for their years of accumulated trust in the squad leader and in him, they probably would have scattered and fled long ago.
"Jack!" Niqi made a decisive decision about the strategy. "Take Komodo, John, and Park Dongwoo and continue to retreat down the mountain."
"Basek, you take your small squad and withdraw from the side of the lake in town."
"Felio, you lead the rest in whichever direction you choose."
The members called out rose up with practiced discipline and carried out Niqi’s commands without emotion.
The squad was divided into four parts.
Niqi and Fangs supported each other, watching the three groups move farther away.
"Now it’s just our own team," Niqi spoke calmly, "It’s possible now to discern that person’s intention. If his goal is the same as ours, then he won’t target us again. If his goal is us..."
"Then let’s run!" Fangs said sternly. "Niqi, it’s my fault that this happened to you!"
"It’s okay. I used a secret technique, and after this, my spatial ability will completely disappear. It doesn’t necessarily mean certain death," Niqi said indifferently. "As long as you survive, there’s still hope! The real key is in your hands. There are eight minutes left. If we can’t find Black Bee to help us with treatment before the secret technique fades, then just give up completely."
Fangs nodded his head.
Suddenly, the two disappeared from the spot. A silver blade shadow pierced right through where they had been standing.
Lin Fei’s figure appeared abruptly and then disappeared just as quickly.
A breeze blew by, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting reflections of green light on the grass, as if nothing had ever happened.
**************
At the summit of Taal Volcano, at the edge of Taal Lake.
A thin layer of pale blue light covered an open area on the shore of the lake.
Within the light shield, several people dressed in camouflage were gathering and resting. These men and women wore camouflage with the capitalized letters GLZ printed on their chests and backs.
Two camouflaged individuals stood at the edge of the light shield, looking out over the vast lake.
"Unlike us, the locals refer to Taal Lake as this body of water, also known as Yellow Lake. Reaching here means the preparations are truly complete," one of the women spoke softly, her arms crossed. She was a woman whose very appearance seemed cold-hearted and ruthless, exhibiting a wooden face devoid of any expression. A vicious scar extended from the corner of her left eye down to her chin, as if someone had sliced from her eye corner to her jaw with a knife, and had they exerted a bit more force, her head might have been split in two like a watermelon. Her skin lacked the smoothness typically associated with women, instead showing a sickly, dull, yellow-brown color. If one were to find a suitable comparison for this woman, the cold and ruthless Komodo dragon would be the most fitting.
Next to her stood a haggard white man with sunken eyes, brown short hair, and deep blue eyes, giving the impression he had recently recovered from a serious illness.
The man glanced at the woman beside him.
"This is the true Taal Lake, formed by the volcano’s crater, and it is also the destination of our mission. Commander, according to your estimate, Fangs’ men should have arrived before us. Something seems off," he said.
"Wait! Without the critical key, no one can complete the mission," the woman spoke softly. "They will definitely come, whether it be Fangs or Black Bee. Now go clear out those fishermen!" She directed her gaze at several small fishing boats moving across the lake in the distance.
***************
The mere three-hundred-meter Taal Volcano looked like a regular hill. Standing at its base, one could see a general view of one side of the mountain.
Yuan Yicheng and his party were stationed at the foot of the mountain. They could faintly make out blue electrical flashes erupting from the forest halfway up the mountain.
The official forestry road up the mountain had already been taken over by another group.
These black individuals, clad in light green military vests and exuding ferocity, were muscular and robust. Their numbers were around twenty to thirty. If they each were armed with a submachine gun or similar weapon, they would be indistinguishable from anti-government militants.
The local residents and tourists who had planned to fish or sightsee on the mountain were stopped one by one and turned away. (To be continued.
