Chapter 234: Chapter 224 Seed 2
"My name is Shu Jingchen, and he is Shu Jinghui. He’s my brother. We actually stumbled upon this place by chance. Some time ago, while chatting with friends at the milk tea shop across the street, we noticed several very familiar-looking people entering this teahouse. At first, we thought they were acquaintances we knew, but upon closer inspection, we realized they were strangers," Shu Jingchen paused. "Later, we saw those people come out of the teahouse but went straight to our shop to buy milk tea. We found it strange. Clearly, they would have had tea inside, yet they still bought milk tea after coming out. Then, when we had nothing better to do, we started observing this teahouse more closely and the more we watched, the stranger it seemed."
Shu Jinghui continued, "Then, we tried to enter ourselves, but we were always stopped. At first, we thought it might be because of our clothes. We changed our attire several times, to no avail. Today we dressed formally, and it still didn’t work. We’ve been waiting here since morning. We even asked a few people to bring us in, but no one would. Only you, uncle."
"You two are far too curious," Lin Fei said with a light chuckle. "In this world, many things are incredibly dangerous. Excessive curiosity can easily bring trouble your way."
"What trouble?" Shu Jingchen asked, perplexed. "Sorry, uncle, but we’ve actually been studying abroad, so we might speak more directly."
"No worries," Lin Fei said with a smile. "However, after you go in, don’t wander off. You can’t afford to offend anyone in there. Got it?" He had originally planned to bring Shuang’er over. However, because he had recently transmitted some of the Light of True Lies to Xu Ruoruo and Shuang’er, both were adjusting to their new powers.
Shuang’er, who hadn’t been able to help much in the last battle, was becoming increasingly eager for power. Now, she was constantly adapting to her new strength. Unlike Xu Ruoruo, the amplification the Divine Artifact brought to the Dream Eater was nearly exponential. For ordinary Martial Artists like Xu Ruoruo, the boost was only around thirty to forty percent. Naturally, it took her slightly longer to adapt.
In fact, now that Lin Fei possessed one of the Divine Artifact components, he could create Dream Eaters. By using the Power of the Divine Artifact to have an ordinary person completely absorb the Power of True Lies, he could create an Awakener of the dream realm. Depending on their aptitude, they might well become a Dream Eater. However, the Power of the Divine Artifact was ultimately an external force; if the Divine Artifact were taken, the results would be the same as the Wu Family—years of effort destroyed in a single day. All Dream Eaters created by the Divine Artifact and those who had their abilities enhanced by it would instantly revert to their original state.
Returning to his senses, Lin Fei gently pushed open the large door at the end of the corridor.
"Here we are. Go in and see for yourselves."
The wooden door slowly opened.
A burst of bright white light shone in from outside, causing all three of them to squint slightly.
Once they had adjusted, they could finally see what lay beyond the door.
It was an immensely vast expanse of space. The sky was azure blue, without a single cloud, and brightly lit, though it was unclear where the light was coming from as there were no visible lighting fixtures, yet it was as bright as day all around.
In the distance, market streets stretched farther than the eye could see, crisscrossing like a chessboard, with dense crowds weaving through them. Towering silver skyscrapers stood tall.
The three stepped out onto a high platform. To the left were stone steps leading downwards.
"I remember there was a university behind the Red Moon Teahouse, how could this be..." Shu Jinghui was completely dumbfounded. His sister was the same, with her mouth wide open in an ’o’ shape.
"Let’s go," Lin Fei said, leading the way down the stairs.
The two hurried to follow.
At the bottom of the stone steps, some people dressed like street vendors stood guard.
As the three of them descended, these people came up with beaming faces.
"Would you like to buy a map of the trading post? Very cheap! Buy one, get two free!"
"We are guides for the trading post and can conveniently take you to any place you want to go. The price is very cheap!"
"Rent a short-range communicator. The trading post blocks any external communicators, only the special ones will work. You’ll definitely need one."
A group of people crowded around, pushing their wares.
"How much for a map?" Lin Fei asked one of the vendors.
Seeing Lin Fei choose a map first, the other vendors naturally dispersed, leaving only the one Lin Fei inquired with.
"One thousand a piece, a real bargain!" the vendor immediately beamed with a smile.
"One thousand!!" Both siblings from the Shu Family were shocked and dumbfounded. Just for a map, they wanted one thousand? What kind of justice was this!
Lin Fei nodded, "Indeed, it’s not expensive. I’ll take one." According to the records on the Mage’s Eye, trading post maps typically range from one thousand to five thousand, and the common currency used across the regions is calculated in Euros.
One thousand Euros is equivalent to over eight thousand Renminbi. Since the Euro, as a currency issued only in 2002, gained such rapid market recognition, there must be forces from the Inner World behind its promotion. Otherwise, even the Inner World wouldn’t be pricing in Euros.
Lin Fei took out his bank card, while the vendor brought out a small wrist-mounted card reader. The card went through it, and Lin Fei entered the amount of eight thousand on the little keypad.
"Grateful for your patronage, I’ll just charge you a round number," the vendor said with a grin, handing a thick roll of paper map to Lin Fei.
"You entered the wrong amount!! That’s eight thousand!!!" Shu Jingchen grabbed the vendor’s hand.
"Xiao Chen, may I call you that?" Lin Fei smiled.
"Of course," the girl replied with a start, nodding.
"Let go of him. The price is correct. It’s not one thousand Renminbi, but one thousand Euros," Lin Fei explained.
The two siblings were at a loss for words.
"What... what place is this?!" Shu Jinghui swallowed hard.
"Of course, it’s the Pacific Trading Post," the vendor said cheerfully, unbothered by their reaction.
"The Pacific Exchange?"
"Is this your first time here? Just a reminder, this gentleman here can indeed bring you as ordinary people inside, but you can only stay for twenty minutes at most. Otherwise, it could cause significant harm to your body," the vendor kindly warned. "Every moment here is filled with all sorts of energy radiation. As mere mortals, you’re like ants in here, easily crushed to death by accident."
"Do you still want to continue?" Lin Fei turned and asked the two.
Clang!!!
Suddenly, on the street ahead, a man with a cropped haircut violently pulled out a short knife from his waist and hacked it down on a handgun in another person’s hand.
Bang! After a misfire, the gun-holder lay in a pool of blood, clearly dead.
"I’m willing to pay the penalty fee," the killer said calmly, retracting his waist knife.
Several security personnel in black rushed over, gave him a slip of paper, and then left directly. Then some cleaners moved in to pick up the corpse and begin cleaning the bloodstains.
The passersby around seemed unfazed, as if homicide was nothing more than a trivial matter.
Shu Jingchen and Shu Jinghui both swallowed hard, their faces pale as death.
"Here, the only safety lies in one’s own strength. Those without power are merely toys to be trifled with and garbage," the vendor said with an unchanging expression.
"Alright, don’t frighten them anymore," Lin Fei said with a smile. "They are still children, after all."
"Heh. I’ve just seen too much and can’t help but reflect on it," he said with a sigh.
Sweat beads quickly formed on the foreheads of Shu Jingchen and his sister.
"We... should go back. Hehe," the young girl said, clearly frightened.
"Uncle, thank you..." Shu Jinghui said, still shocked, "Sorry for troubling you."
"It’s nothing," Lin Fei replied indifferently. "Through that door, you can go straight back to the Red Moon Teahouse. Go on."
The siblings nearly fled back up the stone steps in haste.
Lin Fei stood at the bottom, watching their retreating figures. In fact, the reason he had brought them here wasn’t solely on a whim; there was also a certain familiar aura he detected from the two.
He never did anything meaningless.
"Chenchen," Lin Fei suddenly said softly, his voice carried by the force into Shu Jingchen’s ear. "When you encounter the biggest difficulty of your life, make this call. You’ll need it..." A black card zipped into Shu Jingchen’s hand without harming a single bit of skin.
Shu Jingchen looked back at Lin Fei and respectfully bowed. Turning, she hurried to catch up with her brother.
The two opened the door and walked straight through.
"Sir? Are you interested in that young girl?" the vendor asked, puzzled. "If you need it, with your strength in this place, you can easily get any top-level woman you want. They’re just ordinary people, after all."
"It’s nothing," Lin Fei glanced at him indifferently.
He scanned the map once and then walked into the stream of people on the street.
******************
Inside the corridor of the Red Moon Teahouse.
Shu Jingchen and Shu Jinghui were gasping for air, leaning over.
"What do we do now? Call the police?" Shu Jinghui asked intermittently.
"Call the police? Didn’t you see how vast it was inside? Everyone there seemed so accustomed to it; calling the police would be useless. They might even think we’re crazy," Shu Jingchen said irritably. "Let’s just consider this an adventure. Of all the adventures we’ve had from childhood to now, this one was definitely the most thrilling..."
"Chenchen, what do you think would have happened if we really followed that man inside?" Shu Jinghui asked as he walked back along the corridor.
"We might have seen a world we can’t even imagine," Shu Jingchen replied softly.
"Let’s just forget it; we’re better off returning to our classes like normal students," Shu Jinghui sighed resignedly.
"Yeah... looking at it now, a peaceful life is better," Shu Jingchen lowered her head to look at the black card in her hand with only a phone number on it. She smiled slightly, tucked it casually into her jacket pocket, and hastened to catch up with her brother.
Their figures slowly vanished into the darkness of the corridor.
For an unknown reason, Shu Jingchen’s mind suddenly flashed with the image of that uncle’s smiling face.
"You’ll need it..." she murmured, as if it carried a deeper meaning. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to cast your recommendations and Monthly Tickets at Qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
