Chapter 211: Chapter 203 Enrollment 1_2

After a good while, Lin Fei finally arrived at a plaza the size of a football field. Standing at one end of the square, Lin Fei looked far across to the other side where people were bustling about. Beneath a rectangular white school gate hung a red banner. From the backside, it seemed to be the welcome banner for new students, but reversed.

On both sides of the school gate, there were rows of long desks and chairs, with banners of various colors representing the different departments. Underneath, there were clusters of new students and parents gathering. People left occasionally, and from time to time, others joined.

The whole area around the school gate was bustling with noise and teeming with excitement.

"Okay, my task was to bring you to the registration booth for your department," Wang Hanmei pointed to a relatively quiet long table banner on the left that read the Physics Department. Counting carefully, there were four students sitting behind the table, presumably the senior students tasked with welcoming and registering new students. "That’s it over there, see it?"

Lin Fei nodded. "I see it."

"Alright, adorable junior, I’m off to meet others now. I wish you a smooth registration." Wang Hanmei turned and briskly walked away.

Lin Fei watched her stride over to another female student standing to the side and strike up a quiet conversation. Clearly, having brought Lin Fei here and having introduced some aspects of Yan Capital University along the way, Wang Hanmei had fulfilled her responsibilities.

Lin Fei walked straight onto the plaza and headed toward the Physics Department’s reception area on the left.

All over the square, students were leading new students back and forth, with the occasional bicycle whizzing by. On the edges of the distant plaza, by the tree-lined paths, you could also see a row of high-level sedans parked.

As Lin Fei walked towards the reception point with his admission notice in hand, he also attracted quite a few second glances. These days, a refined looking boy like him was almost as rare as a giant panda. And the gazes he drew were mostly from girls, filled with curiosity and amazement.

Approaching the reception, a simple-looking male freshman was inquiring at the booth, accompanied by a middle-aged man who appeared to be his father. They looked almost carved out of the same mold, both interjecting questions one after the other. The Southeastern dialect accent intermittently mixed into their Mandarin made it somewhat difficult for the senior students at the booth to understand. Meanwhile, another female student from behind the table was hurrying over.

"Qi Qi, you’re finally back, did you finish explaining things to that new student?" a female student at the reception rushed to greet her. "We still have so many people here; tell Zhao Ge and the others to hurry up. We’re a bit short-handed over here, and Teacher Yu and the others can’t keep up."

"They should be back soon. But relatively speaking, we already have very few people here. Just look at the Information Technology side, packed inside and out. Yanzi and the others are probably going to be overwhelmed." The student called Qi Qi laughed.

Lin Fei had just come over and was standing on the side, waiting for the people in front of the reception to leave before he planned to go up. However, he was noticed by the two.

Qi Qi whispered a few words to the girl beside her, and then the female student behind approached Lin Fei proactively.

"Hello! Are you a new student of our Physics Department?" The female student’s voice was pleasant, soft and glutinous, with a gentle feel. However, her appearance was not so flattering. Her face was full of freckles and acne, and her figure was a bit too plump.

"Yes, hello senior. I am a new student of theoretical physics," Lin Fei nodded in response.

"After handling so many new students, you’re by far the most beautiful one I’ve seen, including the girls," the female student said, her character seeming to share a bit of Zhou Ting’s air.

"Really?" Lin Fei smiled.

The noisy voices of the people around, along with the sound of a senior introducing the school to a newly arrived junior, kept coming.

"My last name is Wang, and I happen to be in theoretical physics, too. I’m a junior this year, so I guess I’m your official senior. Come over here to get your qualifications verified."

Lin Fei followed this senior Wang to the reception desk at the edge of a long table, took out her ID card, admission notice, examination admission ticket, and personal file, presenting each in turn to the teacher from her department to handle the new student qualification verification.

After the verification, the teacher handed Lin Fei a stack of papers. On top of the thick stack was a registration certificate; behind it were items like the department and student ID. Lin Fei flipped through them and saw that the next few pages included her dormitory room number and other related information.

"Alright, let’s first go to the housing management center over there. Let’s get your luggage and accommodations sorted out and pick up some basic living supplies." Wang Hanmei led Lin Fei towards the tree-lined path beside the square.

"Once your accommodation is sorted out, it’d be best to go to the finance office right away to pay your tuition fees. If you want to transfer your household registration, you’ll need to go to the security office building, and then for insurance to the student affairs office. Then there’s your cell phone, you really should get a campus all-in-one card, and if there are any youth league or party memberships, you’ll have to go to the league and party committee office in the next few days to submit your league and party introduction letters. There’s a lot to do, and without spending two or three days, you won’t finish everything." Wang Hanmei said with a smile, "You’re going to be tired."

"I don’t need things like league and party introductions; I’m not a member of either, and I don’t need to transfer household registrations either, so I can skip those two tasks," Lin Fei said with a smile.

"That simplifies things. Many freshmen come over with their parents, so seeing someone like you who came over alone, you’re in the minority. Which province are you from?"

"Southwest Province."

"That’s quite far. I have a classmate from Southwest Province too. We have quite a few people from Southwest Province in our school. Later, you can join the local fellow association, and that way, you can connect with more people from the same region."

"Our College of Physics is not far from the school entrance; it’s a short walk directly there." Wang Hanmei enthusiastically introduced to Lin Fei the passing statues, the history of the buildings, and the departments they passed, as well as some events for which the school is particularly famous. She always found an endless stream of topics, talking non-stop.

Even upon reaching the College of Physics, the conversation showed no signs of waning.

The College of Physics was a large building tinged with white and gray, styled somewhat like a library, with round column-like architectural features prominently displayed. At the entrance of the building, students were continuously coming and going.

"Many people say our physics department building looks like a library," Wang Hanmei said with a laugh.

"It does resemble one," Lin Fei nodded.

"Today’s purpose is just to make sure you know the place, which is conveniently close to the teaching building where we’ll have classes, making it easy to take care of any procedures later on."

The two chatted as they went along, arriving at the school’s housing management center and, after showing the necessary paperwork amidst a crowd of people, struggled through to collect living essentials like a quilt, pillow, sheets, and a cup. Carrying these, they headed straight for the dormitory. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets, Monthly Tickets.
