Chapter 74 Looting
Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Looting
The dull sound of cannon fire shattered the silence of the night. The prelude to the battle had begun at the Island’s harbor. Before long, a messenger quickly arrived in the valley.
"Emergency! The port is under pirate attack! All guards, hurry to defend!"
"Quickly, quickly..."
With the messenger’s arrival, several captains patrolling with their guards unhesitatingly ran towards the port with their soldiers. This left the members of the Shark Bite group, who were patrolling with them, feeling at a loss.
"What should we do now?" one asked.
"Of course, we go find our leader. What else can we do?" the other replied.
This sudden development prompted the two of them to run towards the valley without hesitation.
After listening to their report, Welt frowned, lost in thought.
Too coincidental. It’s really too coincidental.
He took out his pocket watch to check the time. It was almost midnight.
It just had to be at this time. Welt squinted slightly, a glint of realization in his eyes. He reached out, rubbed his hands together, and silently mouthed some words. A Flying Bird composed of lines flew off into the distance.
Just then, a blue light descended from the sky.
Detecting danger, Welt rolled forward without hesitation.
BOOM!
Andre landed from above, his punch striking the ground and scattering stones and dust into the air. Seeing this, Welt immediately realized who had deliberately orchestrated the attack on the port. Without a word, he drew a Sailor’s Saber from his waist. He lifted the saber and charged, a faint blue light appearing on its blade. This was a manifestation of Magic Power strong enough to be channeled externally and adhere to objects.
Just as the other two members of Welt’s group prepared to assist, Vanessa and Chadite also descended from the sky. Chadite’s attack posture was identical to his father’s; he also attacked with his fists. His silver Radiant Iron Fist smashed down towards their target. Several glowing threads flew out, entwining Chadite’s opponent and allowing his attack to strike the enemy’s shoulder directly. The blow instantly sent the enemy flying backward, where a nearby teammate caught him.
While the battle raged intensely here, Alka and Jason had arrived at the stone pillar further back. Alka opened the cage in his hand, and the Golden Horn Hammer flew out, lightly tapping the stone pillar with its antennae. There was no insect chirping, nor any other sound. It was as if the tapping had no effect, and the mechanism didn’t activate. Seeing this, Jason looked at Alka and asked, "What’s going on? Could the mechanism not be working?"
This was completely different from what Andre had described during the day.
Alka mused, "Perhaps this is how it responds at night?"
Just then, a grating sound of stone slabs moving came from the distance. Behind the stone pillar statue, the ground vibrated, and dust began to rise. An entrance to a tunnel appeared as the stone slabs shifted; the earth and stone above it shattered and collapsed downward, revealing a large hole.
"It worked!" Jason exclaimed. "This should be the entrance to the Treasure Vault."
Jason and Alka immediately moved towards the opening. Suddenly sensing something, Alka yanked Jason back.
A flash of a blade emerged from the shadows, slicing past Jason’s face. Reacting instantly, Jason’s hand darted beneath his armpit; a pistol appeared in his palm, and he fired at the shadow. The moment he aimed, the figure lurking in the shadows leaped out. A woman shrouded in black clothing appeared before them in the moonlight.
Jason gave Alka a push. "You take the bag and go down first! Our goal isn’t to fight."
Understanding Jason’s intent, Alka nodded. A blue card appeared in his hand, and he pressed it into Jason’s. Then, he ducked behind Jason and scrambled towards the hole.
The woman lunged to stop him, but two bullets struck the ground at her feet with dull thuds. Jason’s left hand swept to his waist, producing another pistol.
"Miss, calm down," Jason said. "Your opponent is me now."
Hearing this, the woman straightened up. A whip appeared in her hand, the tip of which was the very blade that had nearly slashed Jason. By this time, Alka was already sliding down into the hole.
Lucilia had already gone down to scout ahead for Alka, whispering information about what lay below into his ear. Upon landing, Alka took out the lantern from his waist and twisted the knob at its base. A dim light illuminated the surroundings.
It was clearly a man-made tunnel, its sides reinforced with wooden stakes. Ahead stood a stone door with a peculiar script engraved above it. Having studied such writings before, Alka recognized it at a glance. It was an ancient script, and the characters above the door simply meant ’five’. Alka took out the items Bobby had given him and scattered them on the ground ahead. The small, unknown objects landed without triggering any mechanisms.
Only then did Alka approach. After checking that the stone door seemed safe, he placed both palms against it and pushed forcefully.
As the stone door slowly groaned open, and when it was wide enough for someone to pass, the surroundings suddenly lit up. Iron lanterns fixed to the ceiling flared to life, their candlelight illuminating the area beyond the doorway.
Lucilia materialized again, stretching her head to peer inside.
"I don’t see anything dangerous," she reported.
Hearing this, Alka finally stepped all the way in.
The scene inside unfolded before his eyes. The space was not large, estimated to be less than twenty square meters. Yet, countless items that looked highly valuable were casually stacked on either side. Jewelry, oil paintings, and statues were piled carelessly, and some specimens preserved under transparent glass plates were also stored here. Alka immediately spotted a disc with an insect pattern on it, placed in a conspicuous spot. However, a thick layer of dust covered all these items, and dense spiderwebs crisscrossed everywhere. As a result, everything looked more like junk than treasure.
Seeing this, Alka quickly took out the cloth bag from his waist. This peculiar bag was the item Andre had brought from the night ship. Alka pulled open the mouth of the yellowed bag and began stuffing the surrounding treasures inside. He started by stuffing the disc inside. No matter how much Alka packed into it, the bag never seemed to fill. This was precisely what Andre had prepared: something to quickly stow the treasure and avoid being delayed if enemies reacted.
Alka’s hands flew, continuously stuffing the surrounding treasures into the bag. After all, time was tight. Then, Lucilia’s voice reached his ear.
"Careful, someone has entered."
