Chapter 73: Into the Night

Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Into the Night

To ensure the mechanism’s success, Andre and his daughter, after arriving near the cliff, didn’t immediately leap downward. Instead, they waited and listened intently.

Amidst the insect chirping that filled the valley, a rumbling sound began to emerge.

"It worked." Andre nodded, grabbing his daughter’s hand and jumping down the cliff.

"Over there! It’s Andre!"

"Chase them!"

The two were eventually spotted by the people below.

The two members of the Shark-Devouring Treasure Hunting Team who rushed over immediately jumped onto the hillside and charged swiftly at them. The guards following them had already begun to raise their guns and fire. One bullet after another pierced the air.

Still in mid-air, the pair were caught by a stream of water. From within the stream, Sang Kaka leaped out. With his wide hands, he grabbed the two and plunged towards the sea below, smoothly tossing them onto his back. He moved like a sharp sword, slicing through the water and swimming towards the distance.

The two pursuers who reached the cliff could only watch helplessly as Andre and the others disappeared.

"Why did they trigger the mechanism and then run away?"

"I don’t know. How would I know that?"

"Forget it. You stay here and stand guard while I go find the Captain and the others."

With that, the middle-aged man turned and left.

He soon arrived in town and relayed what he had just witnessed to Welt, the captain of the Shark-Devouring Treasure Hunting Team.

Welt extended his large hand, rubbing his gleaming bald head, polishing the menacing shark tattoo on his scalp until it shone.

"You mean they triggered the mechanism and then just left?"

"Yes."

"Interesting. Alright, you’re dismissed. Gather all our remaining men."

The middle-aged man nodded and left the room.

It seems they indeed got the Golden Horn Hammer. They triggered the mechanism and left? It looks like there are other corresponding mechanisms.

Welt then said, "Nivek, you patrol the island. I’ll take some guards and wait in the valley."

Upon hearing his captain’s command, Nivek frowned slightly, clearly dissatisfied. With a somewhat exaggerated expression, he looked at his captain and said, "You know, I still haven’t had my revenge."

Welt looked at him and calmly said, "Haven’t you received any intelligence about him? He’s a member of Home Island. If he doesn’t want to fight you, do you think you can just kill him?"

"If I kill him, then so be it."

Hearing this, Welt’s voice took on an angry edge. "Fool! We’re a Treasure Hunting Team, not ruthless pirates!"

"There’s not much difference anymore."

Hearing this, Welt gave him a long, deep look, then pushed open the door and walked out. His words echoed from afar: "This is an order. I don’t want to say it a second time."

Welt walked towards the valley. At some point, a slender, mature woman appeared beside him.

"Captain, the Governor is very displeased with the recent murders in town."

"I know. Nivek is getting increasingly out of control."

"..."

Andre and the others returned to the ship, where the crew who had been waiting gathered around them.

"Rest assured, we succeeded," Andre announced. "We’re just waiting for tonight to truly unlock the Treasure Vault." He added, "The fight tonight is inevitable. Get ready." As he spoke, his eyes were on Alka and Jason. The two had only just become touch-wielders and hadn’t truly experienced combat between them.

Jason put his hand on Alka’s shoulder. Lucilia, who had been hovering near Alka’s neck, disdainfully lifted her hand and sat in the air beside him.

"I’m a bit nervous," Jason said. "What about you?"

Alka glanced at him, shook his head, and said, "I’m fine. I’m not too nervous."

Alka saw Jason’s disbelieving expression but ignored him, heading to his room. He needed to prepare for battle. A Magician’s Magic cannot be performed at any time; each performance requires adequate preparation.

"Will the battle between touch-wielders affect your soul?" Alka asked while preparing his things. "Should I leave you on the ship first?"

Upon hearing Alka’s words, Lucilia quickly sat in front of him, shaking her head. "No, no! I want to be with you. I don’t want to stay in the Mirror all the time; it’s too uncomfortable."

Alka looked at Lucilia’s expression and nodded. "Alright. But when the fight starts, you must retreat into the Mirror. No one knows if those attacks might harm your soul."

"No problem." Lucilia nodded cheerfully.

In the Mirror, as long as she followed Alka, she could also sense her surroundings. It was much better than being stuck in a dark world after separating from Alka.

Alka took the necklace from around his neck and carefully extracted the Mirror from it. Then, he took a new frame from his pocket. It resembled a small metal box. He lifted the lid, embedded the Mirror inside, and then closed it. The box was engraved with mysterious patterns. It was clear at a glance that it had been reinforced with Spells. Its chain, integrated with the box, was securely fastened. Alka then placed it back around his neck. "I had Old Bobby craft this new one. It cost me 2 Golden Leaves."

It was engraved with reinforcing Spells, capable of effectively preventing damage from external forces. Combined with the Mirror itself being a Magic Item, its safety factor was now even higher. This was, after all, Lucilia’s sanctuary. His past month with Lucilia had made Alka very grateful to her; she had, after all, practically been his teacher.

Watching Alka, Lucilia smiled sweetly. "Thank you." Then, she shrank back into the Mirror.

Night slowly fell. A brilliant white moon hung high in the sky. The ship sailed slowly on the sea, cloaked in shadows, heading rapidly towards the far side of Meister Island. Besides them, another fleet had already arrived much earlier.

At noon, the secondary crew members had already been sent to other islands. They would only be brought back after the battle concluded. Now, the ship was manned by core members, all of whom were touch-wielders.

"Bobby and Sang Kaka will stay on the ship to provide support," Andre instructed. "The rest of you, enter the Treasure Vault with me." After speaking, Andre looked at the pocket watch in his hand. When the time reached 11:30, he tapped his finger, and bird after bird, formed from blue threads, flew into the night sky.

The pirates, who had been waiting in the harbor on the main side of Meister Island, received the notification and began to launch a large-scale assault on the island.

"All of you sea scoundrels, charge! Tonight, we’re going to make a fortune!"

"HAHAHAHAHA!"
