Chapter 204: What point am I trying to make?

I’m not trying to dismiss Min-Cheol’s hard years of living, his struggles, and all he had to do to maintain the position he is in right now... The rich had it easy, but only when talking about them, never lacking food, a roof over their head, and comfort.

But even their comfort came at a cost.

The struggle of a normal man may not be compared to that of the Alphas who were raised with an iron fist and a lot of priorities set out for them to the point that they had no smile on their lips when growing up... Except Ki-hoon, though, he lived a pretty normal life. I’ll get to that when I get to the point of Ki-hoon’s past.

Anyway, what was I saying? Ah, yes. The struggle of an average man was nothing compared to that of the Alphas, who had to deal with a lot of conspiracies, keep the company afloat, and also keep up their image for the public.

They couldn’t trust anyone and always with high vigilance, fearing that someone might stab them in their sleep.

It was a hard life but because they grew up with this hard life, they probably don’t feel it anymore and think of it as their normal way of life.

For an average man, they’d need to struggle to find a job, start a family, and still provide for that family, and though it’s not easy, they look up with envy at the rich.

They envy their wealth but don’t know how they got there.

That’s the problem. People only ever look at what’s on the surface and never bother to look at what’s underneath the surface.

If they did, they would never want to live the life that the rich were living.

What point am I trying to make?

I don’t envy the wealth of my masters because I know how hard they worked to get it.

But what I do envy is their carefree spirit when spending money.

No matter what, they were still billionaires.

I can’t help but be envious, desire knowing what they went through to get to this point.

That’s why I said I wasn’t trying to dismiss their struggles.

It’s human nature, you know.

"Don’t do anything reckless, Little Min," I said, brushing my fingers through his hair. "You can’t reduce your position just because you want to spend time with me, can you?"

"Will that make me inferior to those old guys?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yes, it would."

That wasn’t too harsh, was it? He was at an age where he could make reckless decisions so if I guided him properly, he might not end up with mistakes like that.

"Alright, Hyung." He said, smiling heartily. "I want to be someone Hyung can continue to be proud of and be in no way inferior to the others so I’ll do what you say."

"Good boy." I smiled at him and I think I was able to get through to him.

"Jo-Pil," Jin-Yeok called, approaching with Ki-hoon. "There’s only one game left. But I think we already know who the winner is."

"Yeah, Master Sun is quite good at this." I said, my eyes trailing towards him, cleaning his hair with a towel, and then back to the two in front of me.

"Should we just stop here?" Ki-hoon asked. "The sun is getting harsher and while you’re under the trampoline, it might get harder for you to watch."

Oh, right. I can’t let them keep playing under the sun once it starts shining harshly

"It’s fine. We can stop it here. You guys were great." I have them two thumbs up, showing my delighted smile. "It was really fun watching. It felt like I was watching a real game between professionals."

My compliment got them red in the face and looking away awkwardly. Jin-Yeok rubbed his index finger under his nose and above his lips, feeling proud and Ki-hoon brushed the back of his neck.

"I guess we gave it our best because you’re a special audience." Jin-Yeok said.

"We can do other things, you just name it, Jo-Pil." Ki-hoon said.

"Oh, right. Since it’s going to get hot soon, why don’t we relax by the pool?" Min-Cheol suggested and my body froze up.

"P-pool?" I asked and they nodded, thinking it was a great idea.

Why the heck was there a pool here? I mean, there was a gym, so it’s normal to have a pool, but... I gulped... I was scared of the water.

"I..." I opened my mouth to speak but something stopped me from telling them that I was scared of the water.

I don’t know. It was as if my mouths were sealed shut each time I planned to explain that I was scared of things like the pool or the ocean.

If I think back to the past, I never had such fears. I even went to the sea and walked till I couldn’t feel my legs on the ground anymore.

I fell to the depths of the sea but still, I didn’t feel this fear.

But now, for some reason, fear was crawling into my heart and shaking my bones.

I was scared of going into the water.

"Are you okay?" Ki-hoon asked, noticing my face grow pale. "You don’t look too good."

Having a dip in the pool after such a tough game should be very relaxing for the Alphas, so I shouldn’t deprive them of this just because I’m scared.

All I have to do is not go into the water, right?

"I don’t know how to swim." I said, barely smiling at them. "So, I’ll watch you guys."

With this, they shouldn’t expect me to get into the water, right?

"Ah, sorry if I was inconsiderate, Hyung." Min-Cheol said.

"No, it’s fi--"

"You probably can’t go into the water because of your back, right?" Jin-Yeok asked, looking at me with a guilty expression on his face.

That’s right, even if I don’t know how to swim, it’s not enough reason for me to lose the color on my face unless I had a traumatizing incident that scared me so much.

Since there were no known incidents like that, he could only assume that I felt scared to expose my back in front of them.

And because of that, he was reminded of how I got the burn on my back in the first place.

"That’s not it." I said.

I couldn’t let him misunderstand this and start having that sorry expression on his face. It tugged at my heart each time.

"I’m just scared of the water." I finally admitted. "I can’t swim, and I’m scared I’ll drown, that’s why I’m like this. It has nothing to do with my back."
