Chapter 730: Chapter 731 Freeloading Man 16_1

Song Lei entered the campus and immediately noticed many people staring at her. She thought to herself, it was just yesterday that she had registered for school, she hadn’t done anything notable, so why had she become a celebrity again?

Could it be that Chiang Yi had caused some trouble again? Just thinking about it irked her. They were two unrelated individuals, yet whenever that guy had a problem, people turned to look at her.

She was like a magnet for misfortune, Song Lei thought resentfully to herself. Fortunately, she just needed to hang on for a year and a half more, and then she wouldn’t need to see him; getting news of him would suffice.

As soon as Song Lei entered the classroom on the first day of the new year, someone asked, "Song Lei, what did you think of the difficulty of yesterday’s exam?"

The difficulty? "It was manageable." It was harder than last semester’s exams, but it was on par with the papers she frequently practiced with.

But judging by their reactions, it must have been tough for them, so Song Lei still gave them some face.

"Manageable?" someone said with a strange tone.

Song Lei pretended not to hear and returned to her seat to start doing practice questions.

"Even the students in the advanced class say this exam was difficult," someone couldn’t help but comment.

"So it was difficult, it was difficult. The exam is over. What’s the use of harping on about it?" Song Lei would tap the nail on the head; the past was the past.

"What if the results aren’t good?" There was genuine worry.

"If nobody else could do it, it’s normal that you couldn’t either."

"So what if you did poorly? You’re still here, what’s there to worry about?"

"Those who did poorly in the advanced class won’t be kicked out either."

Song Lei pulled out a book and began to read, truly annoyed. Now they were worried about not doing well on the exam; why hadn’t they thought to study harder before?

Morning self-study was still led by their homeroom teacher, as everyone took out their books and began the session.

Chiang Yi glanced at the schedule, sighing that the first class was yet again English. He wondered if he’d be made to stand during the lesson.

The moment he received the English exam paper, he panicked, and during the test, he found there were many questions he couldn’t answer.

This had him anxious, as poor performance in other subjects would be troublesome too, but wouldn’t be scrutinized continuously.

But it was different with the homeroom teacher; she would definitely keep a close eye on him and repeatedly use him as an example for comparison.

Chiang Yi was helpless as to why he had not made it to the advanced class, which would have spared him from dealing with that old woman.

Now he had to endure another half year, and Chiang Yi’s mood was already souring.

The homeroom teacher glanced over at the distracted individual, thinking back to a matter raised by an English teacher, and decided to let it go; if someone didn’t want to learn, they didn’t have to.

After all, she wouldn’t be the one at a loss later. Instead, it was better to focus on the other students.

Seeing that unkind look coming from the teacher, Chiang Yi immediately took notice. He had prepared himself for a critique from the teacher, but his name wasn’t called at all.

Though he didn’t know the specifics, this turn of events was clearly in his favor.

As morning self-study ended and the homeroom teacher was about to leave the classroom, everyone asked when the results of yesterday’s exam would be announced.

The teacher wasn’t sure either, "Probably tomorrow, but it could be the day after."

After all, grading the exams was just the first step; then someone had to review them, and the scores had to be calculated again. It was no easy task.

"What? No way," everyone thought. They expected the results to take at least two or three days, planning to relax a bit after school.

But the grading was exceptionally quick, with results likely tomorrow or possibly delayed until the day after.

Did it make a difference if the results came tomorrow or the following day? The expressions on people’s faces weren’t great.

Song Lei had thought the results would be released today, only to learn she’d have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest.

She was really curious to see what kind of score Chiang Yi, who had worked hard all winter break, would get.

Yesterday, it seemed like he wasn’t in top form. Was it the intense exam that had overwhelmed him, or had he not achieved a good score?

Never mind, as long as he was out of luck, her mood was quite uplifted.

Chiang Yi, upon hearing the results would only be released tomorrow, also breathed a sigh of relief. He really hadn’t anticipated that the exam would include content beyond the syllabus, which had him cursing inwardly.

Chiang Yi knew that everyone must have botched the exam this time, and hence, his own performance hardly mattered.

Song Lei continued to diligently work through practice problems. Her seriousness made her deskmate reflect, wondering how Song Lei, whose grades had previously been worse, seemed to have changed completely upon their reunion.

Her deskmate was actually quite nervous, "Song Lei, do you think I did well on this exam?"

No way, was she actually asking her that question? Song Lei was not about to soften the blow, "Do you think I’d know?"

"How you did on your paper, I don’t know. I haven’t seen it, I can’t tell your score."

Song Lei knew that her neighbor at the desk had definitely bombed the exam, "The questions you didn’t know, most people didn’t."

"If you didn’t do well, just accept it and try harder next time," she consoled dryly.

Her deskmate started crying, "The teacher said the difficulty of this test is similar to what we’ll face in the college entrance exam."

The difficulty of the college entrance exam is like this? Song Lei was dumbfounded but let it be; whether the exam was difficult or not, she’d just have to deal with it.

Her deskmate sobbed, believing that since she was already so distressed, Song Lei should at least share some practice tests from her tutor.

But she really couldn’t bring herself to ask or else she would definitely be rebuffed.

"It’ll only get tougher in the actual college entrance exam. Since it’s easier now, work hard so you can get in," Song Lei advised.

The difficulty of the current second-year exams wasn’t that monstrous.

"Moreover, we’re only in our second year. We still have a year and a half. Study more," she said, implying that more practice now could still yield good results.

In the future college entrance exams, aptitude is very important.

Song Lei had spoken her piece; what else could her deskmate say? She couldn’t exactly request that they share study materials.

Her deskmate simmered down, but others did not let up, "Song Lei, could you share the tests from your private tutoring with us?"

"Exactly," someone else spoke up, "We can all improve together."

Hearing the classmates unanimously agreeing, Song Lei knew they hadn’t coordinated such a request on a whim.

They wanted to use moral coercion on Song Lei, but would she cave to their will?

"Would you share something good you have with everyone?"

"If you ask a top student for help, will they really reveal their problem-solving methods?"

"Besides, I’ve paid for a tutor. Why should I share just because you say so? Why should I?"

"You haven’t been short of unkind words behind my back, so why should I help you?"

Song Lei was blunt, "I won’t share with you."

"Call me stingy if you like.">p>

"I haven’t seen anything resembling camaraderie from any of you, so don’t expect too much from me."

Song Lei bowed her head to continue practicing, ignoring the stunned expressions of her classmates around her.
