Chapter 729: Chapter 730 Freeloading Man 15_1

On the day everyone reported back, there were no changes in the class membership; after all, no one had moved up to the advanced class.

Gathered together, they all discussed how they spent their winter break and the plethora of delicious food they ate.

Listening to what they said and then looking at their significant dark circles, all I wanted to say was how fake they sounded, as if they hadn’t studied at all at home.

Please, get rid of those glaring dark circles first; then maybe people would believe you.

"By the way, Song Lei, what did you do over the holiday?" My deskmate, as expected, pried for news again.

"Winter break? Oh, I took extra classes at home."

"After all, my grades are poor; I studied even on New Year’s Eve and the first day of the new year."

Honesty is my main game—I don’t mess around. "I was even thinking that with all my hard work, I didn’t know whether I could still get a good grade."

"Now that I know you guys didn’t study at home, either staying up late to play games or watch TV, I’m really relieved."

"After all, your dark circles are way more prominent than before the holiday."

With a jab, Song Lei then bowed her head and continued working on practice problems while her deskmate, along with the other classmates, simmered with irritation. However, they all wondered, were their dark circles really more noticeable now than before the holiday?

Yet they didn’t dare ask; Song Lei’s words were clearly sarcastic, accusing them of pretending to study hard and staying up late to study, while claiming they hadn’t studied at all—it all sounded so pretentious.

Song Lei continued to work on the problems, without any intention to continue the conversation.

Seeing her like this, her deskmate knew that even if he asked further, who knew what she might say next; he could only chuckle a few times to gloss over the matter.

Once the teacher collected the winter break homework, she promptly placed a stack of test papers down and declared, "Alright, the test begins now."

Wait, what? We’re starting the test just like this? Everyone was shocked.

"Mind you, don’t even think about cheating. During the winter holiday, the school installed surveillance cameras in every classroom."

"If the cameras catch any signs of cheating, your grade will be marked as zero."

Everyone had thought that with the desks not spaced apart and only two teachers proctoring, cheating would be easy.

Nobody expected that there would actually be cameras, and only now did everyone realise that the two newly installed cameras in the classroom were in use.

In fact, these cameras had been installed at the end of last year, but they had never been used, so everyone thought they were just for show.

But unexpectedly, they were operational right from the start of the new term, and everyone quickly abandoned any thoughts of cheating.

Song Lei didn’t care about any of that; as soon as she got the test paper, she efficiently started to work on it.

Her deskmate had thought the test would be tomorrow, figuring he could still cram tonight.

But out of the blue, the test was today, and he was completely dumbfounded.

"90 minutes for one subject, a 10-minute break, and then onto the next,"

"Two subjects in the morning, three in the afternoon," the homeroom teacher announced, indicating today would be a heavy load.

Ahhh, no one anticipated that the school would be so ruthless as to schedule five exams in one day.

"What’s the fuss?" the homeroom teacher glared, "You have to take the tests eventually, so what difference does it make if it’s in one day or two?"

Yeah, we were going to take the tests eventually; there wasn’t much of a difference. But five subjects in one day is not just a quiz, after all.

Song Lei didn’t care how agitated everyone was; as soon as she got the test paper, she started on it.

Her deskmate protested mildly at first but, as he prepared to start on the problems, he noticed Song Lei had already turned to the second page.

Oh my God, my deskmate was shocked. What kind of speed is that?

The homeroom teacher called her name, "What are you looking at someone else’s test for?"

"Song Lei, she’s already flipped to the next page," my deskmate suddenly felt immense pressure.

Someone else might say, is she flipping because she doesn’t know how to do it? But with the current Song Lei, how could that be the case?

Song Lei continued to work through the problems non-stop, joking aside, she did an insanely high number of problems over the vacation.

With this level of difficulty, there really was no need for 90 minutes, 60 was plenty.

After a quick check of her work, Song Lei tidied up her stationery, turned in her test, and left.

Her swift pace had stunned quite a few people, especially since a third of them hadn’t even finished yet.

The homeroom teacher took Song Lei’s test paper and gave it a quick glance. Although unsure of whether the answers were correct, the handwriting was indeed very nice.

"You can go outside and take a break. Come back in for the next test," said the teacher.

Song Lei hummed in agreement, went to the restroom, and then strolled around the field. As one who turned in her test early, she didn’t want to compare answers with anyone or stress out those still taking the test.

Taking a walk was just the right thing to clear her mind. Time really does fly; a whole winter vacation had passed.

She was truly reluctant to let it go. The intensity of studying was immense, the homework was plentiful, but once you got used to the pace, it was manageable.

Returning to school, it was impossible for the teachers to adjust their teaching to her pace of learning.

Ah, she might as well have stayed home and read books or had lessons with a tutor, but unluckily, those tutors also had classes to teach.

Song Lei felt she was being very low-key with her approach, not stirring up anyone at all. However, she had forgotten about the anticipation during the vacation.

Everyone wanted to know if Song Lei would show rapid progress in this assessment test or simply maintain her previous performance.

But the fact that she turned in her papers half an hour early every time and then looking at the teacher’s satisfied expression, what did that imply?

It implied Song Lei’s test scores were probably good; otherwise, the teacher wouldn’t have that attitude.

After a simple lunch, the new round of tests started at one o’clock.

This orientation day was really not ordinary; it was exhilarating, a day one would remember for a lifetime.

Despite grinding through problem sets at home all vacation, a full day of testing still left one’s head spinning.

After the last test, Song Lei couldn’t wait to sing praises for the good days ahead; her brain cells were truly pressured.

Back home for dinner, she whipped out her phone and immediately called the maid to start cooking.

Listening to Song Lei talking on the phone after finishing the exams, everyone felt envious.

Who didn’t know it was just a ten-minute walk to her house? Perhaps even before they had turned in their papers, Song Lei was already at home, happily enjoying her dinner.

Once home, Song Lei indulged in a nice meal, took a bath, and despite herself, ended up working through another set of problems before bed.

She would normally start with five or six sets a day, and it seemed like today’s amount wasn’t enough; she had to make up for it.

After finishing the problems, Song Lei checked the time. It was nearly midnight; she quickly washed up and got ready for bed.

Song Lei certainly slept soundly, but others were feeling somewhat restless, realizing the tests were more difficult and many questions were off-syllabus.

If not for the other students confirming the challenging nature, just going by how easily Song Lei turned in her test, they would think it was a breeze.

Now, they were curious about how well Song Lei performed on this test.
