Chapter 671: Chapter 672 The Real Heiress Does Not Return to Her Place 4_1
Zhang Li never expected that her new task would also start with tutoring for money.
Yang Xue’s parents had heard their daughter mention Zhang Li before, but they didn’t retain much of an impression, just figuring her academic performance was passable without knowing much else.
What they hadn’t expected was how unexpectedly capable this girl could be; had she not given Yang Xue a few pointers, they would never have believed her math could improve so much.
If they could find a good tutor, they really wouldn’t have wanted to trouble Zhang Li.
But after a long search and asking many people, it turned out that there were no available spots with any good teachers.
Having no other choice, they had to turn to Zhang Li.
Zhang Li knew that Yang Xue’s parents didn’t have much faith in her, "Uncle and Auntie, you should still ask around outside."
She wasn’t really considering tutoring for money—it was truly exhausting work.
Yang Xue wasn’t as smart as Zhao Lei, but after all, she was her desk-mate and they had happy times together; of course, it wasn’t just about the money.
Yang Xue’s parents were still inquiring outside, and they didn’t expect Zhang Li to be so blunt.
Besides chuckling foolishly, they really didn’t know what to say. Yang Xue was not pleased, "No, I think Zhang Li’s teaching is good."
"She’s so much better than our teachers," Yang Xue insisted, adamant that she would not attend classes with any other teacher.
Hearing her words, the three of them stayed silent, and the atmosphere quieted down. Normally, they would have been discussing tutorial fees and how to settle them with Zhang Li by now.
But with Zhang Li there, they didn’t know what to say.
Sitting there indefinitely wasn’t an option. Mother Yang cleared her throat gently, "Xiao Li, what about this Sunday, Yang Xue comes to your home for a lesson..."
"We are just learning from each other." Zhang Li thought for a moment, feeling she couldn’t accept the money.
"That’s not acceptable," Mother Yang had been thinking of offering 200 a day, shocked that Zhang Li was refusing payment, leaving her at a loss to agree.
"If you offer money, I won’t take it," Zhang Li firmly refused to accept payment, "We are just classmates discussing studies."
"I hadn’t planned on including anyone else." Zhang Li worried that if Yang Xue’s exam scores improved too much, wouldn’t people start asking questions when they noticed? Could Yang Xue’s parents keep from talking?
"Before my parents passed away, they hoped I would get into university; I can’t afford to pick up sesame seeds and lose the watermelon."
"If it causes a commotion at home, I’d rather be alone." Zhang Li knew the Yang family would understand.
Of course, the Yang family understood, and they were also very pleased—after all, improved grades meant a higher chance of getting into a prestigious university, didn’t it?
And one-on-one tutoring was definitely better than one-to-many.
"Understood, don’t worry, we won’t talk," assured Yang Xue’s parents, promising to keep it a secret.
Yang Xue’s home was actually not far from here. After some thought, "In the future, we’ll bring some vegetables and food over."
"Xiao Li, you can come over and eat with us in the evening," Mother Yang knew Zhang Li still had to cook for herself after getting home every day, so she invited her to their home for meals.
"No need, no need, I’m actually quite easy when it comes to eating," of course, Zhang Li didn’t want to go to the Yang’s for dinner and then have to return home—it was truly tiring.
Mother Yang smiled, "Then let’s do this, we’ll be picking up Yang Xue from school every day, and we’ll bring dinner to you."
Mother Yang insisted that if this was not acceptable, they would have to come over and cook every evening. Left with no choice, Zhang Li had to agree.
And so, all of Zhang Li’s daily meals were taken care of by the Yang family, who took over the responsibility. With that arrangement, she had even less reason to go out.
Every day was spent either teaching or going home, and as for review materials, the Yang family would buy two copies of everything, saving a fair sum there too.
The Yang family was quite satisfied; buying a little extra food and study materials didn’t cost much, being far cheaper than paying for tutoring.
Most importantly, their daughter’s grades had significantly improved. By the end of September, she had made it into the top one hundred of her grade for the first time.
Then, at the end of the first semester, Yang Xue’s grades actually reached the top fifty of her grade, and Zhang Li’s were within the top ten.
After looking at the report cards, the Yang couple took a long time to recover from their astonishment. They had spent money on tutoring in hopes of good results.
"Originally, I thought that making it into the top one hundred was really good," how could Mother Yang not be thrilled? Everyone wants their children to achieve more.
In just a few months, the grades had improved so much. Mother Yang took a deep breath, "This time, she could get into F University."
The couple knew Yang Xue wanted to attend F University, or else they wouldn’t have agreed to extra lessons. However, based on her earlier grades, even if she could gain admission to F University, it would have been in less popular majors. The thought of entering a popular major was almost out of the question.
Now, even those popular majors were within reach.
Father Yang nodded continuously, "Yes, we really owe it to Yang Xue’s persistence."
Initially, they weren’t pleased when Yang Xue said she wanted Zhang Li to help with her studies.
Now, they were genuinely delighted and grateful that they had listened to their daughter back then, not stubbornly disagreeing.
"Over the winter break, I’m thinking, when we visit relatives, we don’t have to go to every house, just a few visits will do," Mother Yang knew they had to visit every aunt and uncle every year during the new year.
She despised it every time. This time, she was determined to fight for her daughter’s sake.
Father Yang knew that his wife and daughter hated the endless New Year’s visits, "Alright, you don’t have to go, I’ll handle it."
"You just take care of both children’s logistics." For them, everything was now about preparing for Yang Xue’s college entrance exams.
Mother Yang originally thought that only Yang Xue would be spared the visiting, but to her surprise, she was now also exempt.
Mother Yang took another deep breath, "I, can I really not go to visit the relatives?"
"What about your relatives?" The relatives on the Yang side could really dish out the sarcasm and mockery. If you didn’t visit for the New Year, they would think you looked down on them.
Father Yang knew all too well the character of his extended family and gave a wry smile, "It’s fine, I’ll bear it."
"The New Year holiday is only a few days; we need to rest too." Father Yang knew that if they didn’t visit this year, they probably wouldn’t want to visit next year either.
Mother Yang didn’t put much faith in her husband’s indirect commitment; some things need to be proven through action, not just words.
Father Yang pinched his nose, aware that his wife no longer valued his promises.
He would have to show her through his actions that he too would protect them, mother and daughter.
