Chapter 612: Chapter 613 Sister Like Mother 30_1

Huang Man realized something was amiss and wanted to leave quickly, but the exits were all blocked by them.

With no other option, she could only stay here and continue listening to their conversation.

She knew Father Zhao must have some flaws, but she had not expected him to be so despicable.

Although the relationship between Zhao Lei and Mother Zhao was somewhat indifferent, they were still mother and son. For a father to discuss such matters with him was astounding.

Huang Man really didn’t know what to say; she truly felt for Zhao Lei.

"You could start a beauty salon," Zhao Lei had given it quite some thought over the last few days.

"Or you could open a boutique that sells luxury brands’ goods," Zhao Lei knew Mother Zhao had always complained about how the place lacked sophistication.

To purchase anything upscale, one had to travel elsewhere, which could be said to be very inconvenient.

If that was the case, why not secure a dealership for themselves? "Mom, you know so many wealthy ladies, are you worried you won’t make money?"

Ever since discussing the matter with his father that day, Zhao Lei had been pondering over this possibility.

Although the other party kept saying that the only reason for not divorcing was to save his face, being a man himself, Zhao Lei knew not to trust men’s words too much.

Even if the other party wouldn’t short-change the woman in the event of a divorce, losing the status of Mrs. Zhao would be a heavy blow to Mother Zhao.

"Start a beauty salon, open a brand dealership?" Mother Zhao had never considered such ideas.

Upon hearing her own son’s suggestion, Mrs. Zhao was stunned, "That, are you sure your dad would be willing to provide the funds?"

It was well-known that this wouldn’t be a small sum, and it was uncertain whether a man would be willing to spend that much.

If there was any possibility, of course, she would rather not ask for money. Wouldn’t it be better to have her own money?

But she was truly full of worries, concerned about what would happen if the business failed, Mrs. Zhao whispered her concerns.

Zhao Lei immediately laughed, "Of course, there’s the possibility of loss in doing business."

"But we can’t give up just because of that."

"I refuse to believe that my dad has never lost money in business," Zhao Lei reassured Mrs. Zhao in every possible way.

His gaze shifted to Huang Man, "Huang Man, what do you think of my proposal?"

Huang Man was truly just quietly observing, without a thought of joining in. After all, the suggestion Zhao Lei offered was genuinely good.

Mrs. Zhao had the financial power and connections to do well in this business, and as long as she didn’t do anything foolish, this business would definitely make money.

"I think it’s quite good. When a woman has money, isn’t it all about dressing herself up?"

"Looks need attention, clothing and everything should be on point; after all, if the money isn’t spent on yourself, who knows who else it might be spent on."

Huang Man surmised that among the ladies who frequented Mrs. Zhao’s company, if their businesses weren’t inferior to the Zhao Family’s, they were then maintained by their men, the majority of whom tended to be unfaithful.

Upon hearing the last sentence, Mrs. Zhao immediately slammed the table, "I’m going to do this business."

Mrs. Zhao’s quick change of mind puzzled Zhao Lei. What was going on? Just now, he had analyzed so much and had made many assumptions, including all sorts of things about his dad’s opinion of his mom, but he hadn’t seen her relent.

And then Huang Man just said a few words, and she actually changed her mind? What was going on? This was something that Zhao Lei couldn’t wrap his head around.

His own words as her biological son hadn’t moved his mother, but it took an outsider to do so?

He hadn’t seen her usually showing much enthusiasm towards Huang Man, apart from business enthusiasm.

Zhao Lei was baffled, and Huang Man hadn’t expected to persuade Mrs. Zhao either. She had just mentioned it casually, without much thought, and without saying anything particularly useful. So how on earth had she agreed?

"If I don’t spend this money, your dad’s mistresses will not be shy about it."

"He’s always saying how I’m a big spender, but I don’t believe those women outside are not spending money." In the past, she would have tried to hide it, not wanting her son to think poorly of his father.

Now she couldn’t care less. If men don’t consider these things and bring up matters they shouldn’t, why should she save face for that man? "You are his eldest son, the eldest son and grandson of the Zhao Family."

"I have to think not just for myself, but for you too." She could use this as an excuse to get money from the man for her business, and any money she made would be for Zhao Lei.

"Let’s get the beauty salon started first. I’ve made up my mind to buy the shop outright." That would be a fixed asset. Even if the beauty salon didn’t take off, at least the shop would be in her name. Would the man really quibble over this amount of money?

Mrs. Zhao thought the more, the more she felt how foolish she had been before, "If the business gets big, I’ll open branches and keep buying shops, taking money from your dad."

"Your dad says I do nothing all day, well, I’ll show him that I can run a business."

That way the man would also see that she wasn’t just any full-time housewife, that she had the chops for entrepreneurship, "Right, once you start school, I’ll go look at some properties."

Even if it came down to divorce, she would at least have property in her name. After so many years of marriage, her understanding of that man had deepened. Once he made up his mind, he definitely wouldn’t refuse to divorce just for his son’s sake.

If it really came to divorce, all she would have are some jewelry and clothes, which are practically worthless. What really mattered was to have property in hand.

The more Mrs. Zhao thought about it, the more excited she got. She didn’t want to waste any more time, "I’m going to go back to my room and think this through."

Zhao Lei watched her retreat, "At least my mom can find some enjoyment." She shouldn’t always fixate on my father because it’s a pointless effort.

"She will," said Huang Man confidently. "Nobody can resist the allure of making money."

"Earning your own money is far more motivating than asking for it, and you don’t have to look to a man’s face." Although she hadn’t met Zhao Lei’s father, from what he had said about his son, Huang Man felt he was extraordinarily unreasonable.

"That’s better." At least when he went abroad, he wouldn’t have to worry about Mother Zhao having nothing to do, causing drama, leading Father Zhao to lose his patience.

"Actually, I hadn’t really thought about taking over the family business before, even though my mom always says that as the eldest son, everything of my dad’s should be mine."

"Truth is, my mom isn’t my dad’s favorite woman, and I’m not the child he wished for. Once that woman has a child, whether it’s a boy or a girl, my dad will give them the best."

Zhao Lei had actually followed Father Zhao once, wanting to know why he was too busy to come home. It was then that he learned Father Zhao had several families outside and one that he favored the most.

"If that’s the case, then just study the major you’re interested in," said Huang Man decisively. "You’re in ninth grade now, and that woman still hasn’t had a child.

"So, even if she has a son or a daughter, they’d be at least 17 years younger than you. You would have finished college and entered the company, while that child has just started elementary school. What can you do if you work hard for more than a decade only for the company to end up in that child’s hands?"

Huang Man had seen such terrible situations before, where people either resigned themselves to taking money and leaving, or refused to accept it and ended up destroying everything. In either case, the outcome tended to be dismal. She didn’t want Zhao Lei to go down that path.
