Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Brother-in-law is the Ex 62_1

The four of them pushed their luggage out of the airport, and looking at the busy airfield, they remarked, "There are so many people."

Then it was followed by, "Where should we go to eat?"

Although they had eaten on the lengthy flight and had gotten off at a layover to eat too, resting was the main activity throughout the journey.

But regardless, they all felt it was time for breakfast and naturally they wanted to find a place to have something to eat first.

Fan Chen had been here before, and after giving it some thought and asking Xia Ke and the others about their preferences, he said, "I’ll take you to a nice place."

First, the four of them went to the car rental place to complete the necessary procedures. They would be relying on this car for the next few days.

Under Fan Chen’s lead, the four enjoyed a breakfast that was not very expensive but very delicious. Even Shen Lan, who wasn’t very particular about food, expressed surprise.

Seeing his astonished friend, Fan Chen was really at a loss for words, "I just don’t understand how you live."

"You’ve been to Europe and studied here. It’s unbelievable you’re unaware of good things and fun places."

"If I didn’t know you wouldn’t fake your resume, I would think you’ve never been abroad at all."

Unable to resist, Fan Chen commented, "Wrong again. I guess you’re only familiar with the company’s canteen."

"You eat at the company’s canteen every day." Fan Chen felt overwhelmed thinking about his friend’s habits.

Although they also often ended up eating at the company’s canteen because of frequent overtime, they would occasionally go out to improve their meals.

But Shen Lan was different; he mostly ate at the company’s canteen and seldom went out to eat.

"I really don’t know what you do with all the money you earn." Although he wasn’t sure about the exact amount his friend earned, he knew the salary wouldn’t be low.

And his friend’s expenses were really minimal, so it was truly baffling why someone who earned so much money was so reluctant to spend it.

"What’s the point of earning so much money if you don’t spend it?" Shen Lan gave an answer that surprised everyone, "I’m going to retire at 35."

"I’m saving for retirement." Shen Lan saw nothing wrong with what he was saying.

Fan Chen and Xia Ke were stunned. What? "Retire at 35?"

In their minds, 35 was the prime age, so why retire then?

"Isn’t that a bit early?" Fan Chen chuckled awkwardly, thinking Shen Lan must be joking, finding it quite implausible.

"Early?" Shen Lan laughed, "How could it be early?"

"Can you stay up late as you did three years ago?"

"You’re barely 30 now. Wait till you’re 35, and then see."

"Now everyone knows how lucrative a career in computing is, being a coder, so many people are studying it."

"Compared with them, what advantage do you think you have?" Sitting in the passenger seat, Shen Lan threw several questions at him.

Fan Chen could honestly say he was stunned by his friend’s questions; he had never considered any of these issues.

It turned out his seemingly busy friend had been pondering all this regularly, and he seriously wanted to ask what he was usually doing to come up with so many concerns.

Xia Ke was also taken aback. She had considered changing jobs, but given the current intensity of her work, she genuinely worried about being able to cope at 35.

In Shen Lan’s words, without a plan, reaching 35 could mean facing a career crisis.

Xia Ke couldn’t help but start thinking that maybe she really needed to plan for the future. If the domestic IT talent pool became saturated, or if many found it difficult to land a good job as they aged,

What would they do when the time came? Work at a small company? Or start their own business?

People say it’s easy to make money in the IT industry, easy to start a business, and easy to become a billionaire, but out of the millions who do, how many actually succeed?

There are many more who don’t succeed, and Xia Ke had never considered starting her own business, after all, she had neither the capital nor the connections.

She didn’t have the confidence to take on all that starting a business entails, the pressure was really quite immense.

Huang Jing looked up at Shen Lan, truly a person of understanding, Seeing how many people live glamorously these days, all with thoughts of switching to a high-paying job, starting their own ventures, or changing homes.

They want their children to attend private or international schools, or to study abroad. In short, one could say there are really so many desires.

Shen Lan could be considered a standout, ask anyone in the company, and they would say he’s promising.

All the internal strife within the company didn’t involve him, everyone knew he was focused on his work, and he had all sorts of people under his leadership.

He had no interest in company politics, focusing solely on the technical aspect.

The team was composed of such individuals, and they have brought in a lot of profit for the company. Who would be so blind as to disturb Shen Lan and his team?

Now that even Shen Lan was saying this, Huang Jing couldn’t help but start thinking about her own future.

As for workplace discussions, they only lasted a while, and after that, everyone truly had a great time every day.

They visited many small towns not often mentioned in travel journals, but the scenery was gorgeous, with numerous abandoned or collapsed castles along the way.

The group would sometimes get out of the car to take a brief look and then look up the castles’ histories online.

One could say that they really had a wonderful time on this vacation, as travel, of course, is best enjoyed with people you get along with.

Although driving was shared among the four, Shen Lan and Fan Chen did most of it, making the trip much more relaxed for Huang Jing and Xia Ke.

Happy times always pass so quickly, and before long, it was time to head back.

"Next vacation, continue?" Fan Chen was the first to speak up.

Along the way, Huang Jing could see that Fan Chen was somewhat fond of Xia Ke, and as for Xia Ke, although Huang Jing had not asked her, she could sense that there might be some mutual affection.

Of course, whether the two could end up together wasn’t just a matter of mutual affection, there was much more to consider.

Having spent these days together, Huang Jing felt that Fan Chen was quite decent, he smoked, but not much, drank alcohol in moderation.

His temper wasn’t great, but at least he was someone who could control himself, and the only thing that might make Huang Jing uncomfortable was,

Huang Jing wasn’t a person who loved sports much, while this guy was a sports enthusiast.

If these two ended up together, Huang Jing was genuinely curious to see who would change whom.

Of course, discussing this topic now was premature, no one knew what the future held.

Falling in love is easy, cohabiting is hard, that is a consensus.

Moreover, Huang Jing remembered something, that if Xia Ke really fell in love, she would be left alone again.

Would she have to dine out alone again? Although she could do it on her own, it was Xia Ke who knew where the good restaurants were, usually they could meet up so that life wasn’t just about work and nothing else.

Fan Chen was also a good candidate, she couldn’t be too selfish and say he wasn’t right for Xia Ke. What if she really missed out on a good man, and might not meet someone so suitable in the future, what then?

After some thought, Huang Jing felt that it was best to let things take their natural course, as an outsider she should not interfere, just wait and see how things would develop between them.
