Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Brother-in-law is the Ex 59_1

Ho Zhen was in a very bad mood, not particularly saddened by Huang Lei’s refusal to marry him or her decision to terminate the pregnancy.

On the contrary, he felt a sense of relief. With the child aborted, it signified a complete end between him and Huang Lei, and each could go their own way in life.

With no ties to Huang Lei, he was free to pursue Huang Jing again, and this time, once he won her over, he would definitely marry her right away.

In hindsight, only Huang Jing seemed to consider him, always mindful of her own reputation.

All Huang Lei cared about was her own pride; not to mention her lack of financial contribution, her demands were high and her spending, excessive.

Sometimes Ho Zhen really hated talking to his parents, but he couldn’t stand seeing his wife speak to them with impatience or mislead the old couple.

In this respect, Huang Jing truly did well, whereas Huang Lei did very poorly, treating his parents with nothing but disdain.

After the child was born, could the child possibly treat the old couple well?

With Huang Lei’s temperament, the children she raised weren’t going to turn out well either. Not to mention looking down on the Ho family elders, they might even disdain him, their own father.

Upon this realization, Ho Zhen completely lost any last shred of compassion for the unborn child; after all, it was Huang Lei who made the decision to have the abortion.

If the child wanted revenge, let them seek out Huang Lei; it was her choice.

Thinking about it made Ho Zhen angry. He harbored a lot of resentment towards the Huang family, feeling that Huang Lixin and his wife looked down on him. Otherwise, they could have bought a house long ago, yet they delayed without reason.

They claimed they wanted to buy a house early so that they could proceed with the wedding, yet he was the only fool who believed that.

Huang Lei was no better, taking so much of his money and accepting numerous gifts, only to leave him in the end.

Huang Jing was to blame too. Didn’t she know her parents’ and sister’s characters?

Yet she failed to caution him at all, just naively watching him fall into the trap, leaving him in such a mess.

Now, feeling guilty, she wouldn’t even take his calls. If that was the case, he absolutely wouldn’t let Huang Lei off the hook.

It was impossible for her to spend his money and ruin his reputation, only to leave like this; she must repay what she had spent.

An angry Ho Zhen planned to go back and carefully calculate how much he had spent on gifts for Huang Lei. In short, she had to compensate.

Determined, Ho Zhen prepared to return to the office when he arrived at the door he overheard such explosive news.

He didn’t expect Huang Jing, the one he had given up on, was about to buy a house. He knew she had been working for years and had the money; she was definitely going to buy a house.

The reason he had chosen Huang Lei in the first place was due to the Huang family’s support, believing it would allow him to buy a house more quickly.

When those discussing spotted Ho Zhen, some snickered and turned back to their work.

Others, undaunted by Ho Zhen, continued their discussion about the house matter. As for whether Ho Zhen was happy, sorry, but that was none of their business.

Hearing these discussions, Ho Zhen wanted to scold them to shut up. Didn’t they know they needed to be quiet during work hours?

But he dared not say it; if he ever did, he would certainly be rebutted with his own words in the future whenever he spoke at the company.

Ho Zhen slumped back to his desk with a droopy face, staring at the computer and began typing, the heavy keystrokes conveying the fact that he was in a very bad mood.

Unfortunately, those who ignored him paid him no mind at all. Ho Zhen didn’t want to stay here; it felt so oppressive.

He abruptly stood up, "I’m going to visit a client."

Someone snorted with laughter, "Are you visiting a client, or paying a visit to your ex?"

"No, the ex before that one," someone else chimed in unkindly.

"Oh, Ho Zhen, weren’t you saying you’d get married on Labor Day? Where were you planning to have the wedding?"

"Exactly, you haven’t even given us wedding invitations," someone added.

With just these few sentences, Ho Zhen immediately understood that he could no longer keep the news of his called-off engagement a secret.

"I’m not getting married anymore."

"I’ve broken up with Huang Lei."

"I know you all must have a lot to say, but I don’t think there’s anything worth discussing. These days, breaking up and divorcing is pretty normal."

"Not to mention," Ho Zhen glanced around the office, "how many of you don’t even know how many times you’ve broken up, right?"

"And there are quite a few who’ve been divorced, some even on their second divorce. What am I in comparison?"

"Honestly, there’s no need to mock me, unless you never break up or divorce," Ho Zhen scanned the crowd again.

Gathering his bag, Ho Zhen stood at the entrance of the building, feeling somewhat lost and unsure where to go.

He was supposed to visit clients, but with the holidays almost here, who would welcome an unannounced visit?

If everything had gone as planned, he would have headed to the Huang family’s home after work today to prepare for the wedding tomorrow. But now, the wedding was off.

After a long thought, Ho Zhen decided to go find Huang Jing. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t answering his calls; he could go to her company.

He knew Huang Jing’s company was busy, with frequent overtime work.

Carrying the milk tea he’d bought along the way, along with half a watermelon, Ho Zhen sighed as he looked up at the office building in front of him.

Although the building where his own company was situated was just as grand, his company rented office space, whereas Huang Jing’s company owned several of these office buildings outright, highlighting the difference in status.

Some would say his company was among the top 500 in the world, but that was the parent company. They were just a subsidiary set up in the Mainland, far from being comparable.

Ho Zhen approached the reception and asked them to contact Huang Jing.

The receptionist looked a bit puzzled but still made the call. Soon, she hung up and said, "I’m sorry, but she has finished work for the day."

"Finished work?" Ho Zhen did not expect such an answer from reception and obviously didn’t believe it.

"She often works overtime. How could she have finished work?" Ho Zhen wore a look of disbelief.

The receptionist wasn’t intimidated in the slightest, "You can contact her yourself," not worried in the least that Ho Zhen might lose his temper.

If he truly lost his cool, security would take care of it.

Ho Zhen also understood that in such a large company, a small fry like him couldn’t throw a fit. Taking a deep breath, he reluctantly left with his milk tea and half a watermelon.

Sitting in the waiting area, Ho Zhen saw numerous people leaving with luggage. "Could she have gone on a trip?"

Ho Zhen recalled that during the Spring Festival, Huang Jing had gone out to have fun with Xia Ke. He knew this person was nothing but a waste of space, always concerned with eating, drinking, and having fun.

And then there was her constant nagging in front of Huang Jing, badmouthing him. Ho Zhen truly hated this woman.

Initially, he had expended a lot of effort to make Huang Jing and Xia Ke less close.

But to his surprise, no sooner had he broken up with Huang Jing than she turned around and got together with Xia Ke.

With such a woman constantly prattling in Huang Jing’s ear, painting him in a bad light, how could Huang Jing still see him in a good way?

Would she even consider getting back together? That was absolutely impossible. Ho Zhen finally understood why Huang Jing had been so irritable this time—it was because of Xia Ke.
