"Boring!" Yanzhi snorted lazily and was very amused.
"Father what are you saying?" Chuntao who has started shedding tears abruptly stood up from her chair, which made a loud thud noise as it fell backwards. "Eldest brother is eldest brother, how can you curse him? He is your first child!" she shouted on top of her lungs. Everyone was shocked by her strong reaction, even Yanzhi was slightly stunned. Chuntao was one to follow the words of the elders and a very respectful child, not once had she talked back to anyone, so they were really shocked to see her do so now.
"What are you saying? You have no place in the family discussion, you’re a woman who will soon marry to her husband’s home. Your place is under your husband so how dare you raise your voice here!" Grandma scolded fiercely pointing her fingers to her nose.
"I know I have no place here, but eldest..."
"Shut up! Disrespectful child!"
Father Jun scolded her with a vicious look, Chuntao went mute feeling terrified by his look but her tears never ceased. Looking at his heartbroken little sister Xiangzhi was depressed and angry, he got up from his seat gently and pulled her into his embrace letting her cry onto his shoulders. His gaze on them was full of disappointments, thinking that they will never change their ways towards their eldest brother, Xiangzhi couldn’t bring himself to face Yanzhi because their treatments in the family was entirely different. One being loved and pampered and the other hated and used, yet still the other keeps giving a lot to the family. Looking at their dramatic ploy Yanzhi was not affected by it, but instead he was just getting really lazy to deal with them. At first he would just play along amused because there wasn’t anything fun to do, but now he has someone to keep him company so why will he continue to waste time with them? Just when he was about to speak, Xianghzi beat him to it.
"Father did you know, officialdom doesn’t get involve in Jianghu related matters so even if father was to report to the officials saying eldest brother isn’t filial, the official wouldn’t do anything about it, much less report him to people who aren’t officials." not giving face to them as eldest Xianghzi said with a sullen look to scare them off for real!
"What do you mean by that?" Xangren questioned with a confused look not understanding anything said.
"I simply mean what I said, I learnt this while sturding. Even the emperor himself doesn’t rule over the people of Jianghu, why do you think the people of Jianghu exclude themselves from worldly affairs? It’s because they have their own ways of doing things and don’t regard officialdom as anything." Xiangzhi looked at them with a look of pleading, which says to them to give up their unreasonable thoughts. As if cold water was poured on father Jun, grandma, Dushi, Xangren and Zhao shi they sat with cold dumbfounded looks, having found out that their hard practiced ploy was useless against Yanzhi. But they still looked unwilling to give up.
"Eldest son don’t be angry, father said all those because I am worried for you" father Jun began to say emotionally.
"Angry?" Yanzhi was amused "you’re not worthy!" he said rudely and coldly.
"Father, I stand by my words. No matter what you say or try, you still wouldn’t be able to live in my sect. I will not have this discussion with you again, there’s no meaning to staying here, I will leave first." not wanting to talk anymore nonsense with them Yanzhi said getting up from his seat.
Listening to Yanzhi’s words father Jun looked at him with a complicated look, as the others looked at him with unwillingness, but Yanzhi turned a blind eye to them all throwing a heavy pouch with silvers on the table in front of father Jun. Hearing the loud thud father Jun picked up the pouch before his eyes opened wide in shock.
"Hundred taels of silvers should be enough to build you a house of your choice, don’t bother me and little wife anymore and don’t send people for me. If you need other things just convey your words to those under me they’ll inform me and if I can assist you I’ll do that, but if I can’t....just forget it." giving them what he came here to give in the first place he said to them, he knew their greed was insatiable that was why he decided to give them that much. He was going enjoy himself and raise these clowns as they get over their heads with so much in hand, they’ll naturally squander all within the shortest time and they’ll come asking for more. But was he one to just give because they asked? The answer naturally was, no! Unable to get it from him they’ll try to find other ways, and will even use his name, as they do that they’ll think their soaring higher and higher, and that is when, when they’ll face their fall and he will be entertained watching from the sidelines.
"Wh-what? Hundred taels?" Xangren stuttered as Yanzhi’s words finally registered in his brain cells. Everyone there were left astounded, hundred taels just given like that? The greedy ones started rushing forward to father Jun.
"Father let me see!" Xangren insisted.
"Eldest son, you truly care..."
"Save it human!" Yue cut him off annoyed, she already knew that they came to the so calles family gathering just to throw money to them, but looking at their greedy and flattery looks when they got the money she felt extremely disgusted.
"Eldest son won’t you say anything to your servant, how can she talk so brazenly to me, your father." father Jun said with a flattery.
Yanzhi ignored him not giving him any face. "There are spots for you three to participate in the recruiting of students for the sect, but to be accepted depends entirely on your performance in the selection." he said to the three of Xangren, Xiangyi and Xiangli.
"Thank you eldest brother!"
"We will do our best!"
Both Xiangyi and and Xiangli thank earnestly, while Xangren looked at him not grateful, thinking it was natural for Yanzhi to leave a spot for them.
"En!" Yanzhi hummed and didn’t bother. "Yue let’s go.... Chuntao and Xiangzhi walk with me." he instructed.
Not giving anyone a chance to speak again he walked away, Yue snorted coldly and followed, Xiangyi brought Chuntao with him as he also followed.
"Son!" not a second long after Yanzhi has walked away, grandma turned to father Jun with red eyes.
"Eldest brother are you visiting uncle Lu?" Xiangzhi following quietly asked seeing that Yanzhi was walking the opposite direction of the mountain.
"En!" abruptly coming to a stop Yanzhi hummed. He turned around facing them as he took out an exquisite wooden box from his space. Seeing something appearing out of the thin air into Yanzhi’s hands both siblings stared with wide opened eyes, but non of them made any comments about it pretending as if they didn’t see.
Opening the box Yanzhi took out a very beautiful dark green bracelet made of jade beads. "Give me your hand." extending his hand towards her, he ordered, Chuntao did as told and sent her hand to him. Taking her hand Yanzhi made a small cut on her finger.
"Hiss!" she moaned in pain but still trusted him and not take back her hand. Bringing her bleeding finger to the bead he watched as a few drops of blood fell on the bracelet. The bracelet absorbed the blood and turned dark red for a second before returning back to it’s dark green color. After letting the bracelet recognize her as it’s master Yanzhi wore it for her in her wrist, he covered her cut finger with his and the wound healed in seconds before letting go of her hand.
After her hand was let go she brought it to her face looking fascinated at the bracelet, it was so beautiful and seemed very expensive, never in her life had she worn such exquisite craft. "Eldest brother this..." she looked to him with excitements and shyness.
"A protective charm, have it on you at all times and it’ll protect you from all harm." Yanzhi simple said. Looking at the bracelet and everything they just witnessed both siblings believed his words.
"Thank you, eldest brother. I will keep it safe and never loose it!" she said whole hearted.
The bracelet was an artifact that has recognize a master so there was no way to loose it, but Yanzhi didn’t mention that and just hummed softly "en." "You take this for your studies." taking out a heavy pouch he said to Xiangzhi.
"Eldest brother, I..."
"Take it. I’m giving it to you." Yanzhi cut him off with a frown.
Seeing a frown on his face Xianghzi embarrassedly stretched out both hands and took the pouch with red face. Weighing the pouch in his hand he was even more embarrassed, without even looking into the pouch he could tell that his eldest brother has given him silvers again, and this time around it was a lot!
"Thank you brother. I will make sure to not waste your efforts and sturdy hard to be accepted a scholar and even be appointed as an official." Xiangzhi solemnly promised.
"En." Yanzhi nodded, in fact he didn’t care about it. He was just doing his job as an elder brother to a sibling who looked up to him and truly thought of him as his elder. To him both Chuntao and Xiangzhi were almost like Yue and her siblings, that was until tonight....it seemed his fate with Chuntao became deeper and from his perspective it will soon be inseparable. What changed Chuntao’s fate to connect to him, he was unsure about it...just yet.
"Go back, I still have something to take care of before going back." he said to them, although his face remained expressionless and his voice lacked warmth, but it wasn’t cold as it used to be.
"Okay eldest brother, take care too."
"Take care, eldest brother."
The siblings said enthusiastically and bid him. "En." Yanzhi hummed and watched them leave before he went on his way. Walking half way to village head Lu’s house Yue sudden questioned. "Master why did you give her that charm? I thought master was avoiding any relationship with them?"
Yanzhi was quiet for a few minutes not answering to her question, just when Yue thought he wouldn’t answer and was about to give up she heard him say. "Her fate has changed, now her fate is intertwined with us. How come? I do not know, or have yet to find out. When? I do not know, I only know what I saw tonight." Yanzhi spoke as if muttering to himself, but still she didn’t fail to hear him.
"So is master planning on bringing her to live with us?" she didn’t bother knowing more, she just asked for her status now.
"...let’s see how deep her fate with us is. I will decide that after finding out what brought the change."
After saying that Yanzhi quickened his pace, leaving her behind in doubts. Seeing him leaving in a hurry she took onto her heels running "erh! master wait for me!" she shouted to him.
