"Eldest son?" Grandma who had been eyeing the door in wait of his arrival was dumbstruck upon seeing him, she almost thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She wasn’t the only one left stunned by his appearance even father Jun who looked to not care was also very stunned, he was just good at hiding his expression as to not be openly readable.
"You’re finally here. Come, come, come in!" Grandma couldn’t covered up her surprised look after recognizing him but mustered up the sweetest hypocritical smile seeing his robes which looked to cost a lot, she quickly urged for Yanzhi.
Looking around the house which was decorated in a festive atmosphere with hanging lanterns Yue almost had the urge to roll her eyes at their obvious act of caring. At the head of the table sat father Jun, at his right side was Xangren who had an envious, jealous and much excited look and at his left side was grandma also with an excited look and the grandchildren were also at the table. Dushi and her two daughter-in-laws were also serving the dishes at the table in a hurry.
"Take a seat since you’re here." Father Jun said naturally, he spoke as if it was Yanzhi himself who was the one wanting to be there and not them calling for him.
"En." Yanzhi hummed with no expression on his face as he cupped. He went ahead to take his seat, Xangren quickly stood up and offered the first chair beside father Jun to him as he took the second seat. Yanzhi said nothing and took the first seat naturally, as the eldest that seat was naturally his whether given to him hypocritically or not it didn’t matter either way.
"Yue, sit with Chuntao." Yanzhi said to Yue his voice without any warmth.
"....Yes, master." she was stunned by his order at first, but quickly reacted and cupped to him before going to sit by Chuntao. Yanzhi wasn’t one to care where one sits as long as it wasn’t Xiao Ling’s seat, and he would not care what these fake family would say even if she where to sit with him at the men’s side so giving such order to sit with Chuntao it wasn’t really like him. Yue had noticed that Yanzhi seemed to be a little bit out of his character after seeing Chuntao this evening, but she will not dare question him if he would not say it himself, she will naturally follow whatever he says without any complaints. Chuntao had a bright smile on her cute face after hearing him asked Yue to sit by her side, ’Wasn’t that the recognition she had always been fighting for?’ She thought excitedly. The others also took their seats and waited for all the dishes to be served before Dushi and the two daughter-in-laws also took their seats.
"Let’s eat." Father Jun said, decisively not saying anything that would ruin the harmonious atmosphere.....just yet.
Looking at the dishes on the table three vegetable dishes, one meat dish and coarse rice along with a plate of mooncakes, Yanzhi took his eyes away with no intention of joining in the fight of fighting for food. In the first place he had never needed the food he only used to eat so he wouldn’t look so out of place, but after eating the delicious foods made by his little wife why would he choose to harm himself to eat this unpalatable stingy looking dishes? He and Yue just stay still waiting for them to finish their meal, not like those stingy family would care whether they ate or not, some of them were even thankful that Yanzhi and Yue weren’t eating. As they continued to pick with their chopsticks they didn’t forget to occasionally take a glimpse at Yanzhi, his appearance which looked like he didn’t belong to the peasant family was too blinding for them. Soon all dishes gradually reduced and one after the other they placed their chopsticks down. After everyone was done the two daughter-in-laws of the house quickly packed away the dishes to the kitchen and hurriedly made it back to once again take their seats, everyone’s attention was now on father Jun waiting for him to start up the long awaited discussed conversation.
There was ridicule in the eyes of Yanzhi for these people, he snorted at their anxious gazes on him.
"Father you invited me here for what?" Yanzhi asked with a lazy tone no longer in the mood to play along.
Father Jun frowned at his words. "Can’t I invite you back? Eldest son even though you’ve separated but in the contract you’re to come back during festive occasions!" father Jun said naturally in a tone between father and son.
"En..." Yanzhi hummed "now that the meal is over and there’s nothing more, then I will be going back now. There are things to do back in the sect." he said and was about to get up.
Grandma, Dushi, Xangren and Zhao shi showed an anxious and vicious look, grandma almost shouted for to stop him when father Jun beat her to him.
"Eldest son don’t go yet!" unable to hold back his anger he yelled at him. Yanzhi who was standing now glanced at him and was thoughtful for a few second before sitting back down.
"Father has matters to discuss with me?" he continued to ask in a lazy tone and an apathetic look.
"That’s right." father Jun agreed to his words, getting straight to the point he said. "Eldest son it’s about the house you built on the mountain. That house is very big for just you and the eldest daughter-in-law to live in, although you have servants to serve in the house but even so you can’t even occupy half of the house. After hearing about the curse on the mountain I was worried about the eldest son but now knowing that there is no curse I’m a bit relieved....but I will be completely relieved if I could see how the eldest son is doing, everyday." father Jun continued to pour in his heart as he talked and Yanzhi also listened without interrupting the other, he was just really bored and lazy to say anything at this moment.
"So eldest son since we’re family, why don’t we come live up there with you. That way if ever there’s a problem, we can be of help and solve it as a family." father Jun finally said what grandma, Dushi, Xangren and Zhao shi wanted to hear, although they were others like Xiangyi and his wife Qianshi and also Xiangli who were somehow in anticipation but they would not insist like the others.
"Father!" both Xiangzhi and Chuntao had embarrassed looks, although they were aware of what their father wanted to talk to about with Yanzhi but they were not in support. But because they couldn’t stop their father they had guilty conscious and were unable to face Yanzhi.
"That’s impossible." Yanzhi simply stated making everyone stunned. Although they were used to Yanzhi always doing his own thing most of the time, but he wouldn’t just reject father Jun just like that.
With a smile that didn’t reach his eyes father Jun asked "Why is it impossible?"
"Did the eldest daughter-in-law tell you not to being us to live with you? Is that why you would ignore your family?" grandma asked with a vicious look.
"That must be the case, isn’t that why he isn’t here with us today. Eldest sister-in-law is probably afraid of facing us after all." Zhao shi added annoyed.
Yanzhi ignored their guesses not bothering to explain anything, even without Xiao Ling he would never bring them to live in the sect’s grounds.
"I built a martial arts school, not a family house. So it’s just impossible for me to let you live there, I plan to accept students in a few days time. There is no place for you there." he said nonchalantly.
"What martial arts school? When did eldest son become a martial arts master that we are unaware of, we raised you so how come we didn’t know that you are a martial arts master capable of teaching others? Oh, or is it because of your appearance, who knows you’re like this because you’re sick, your hair turned white as if you’ve aged and your completion looks very pale. Eldest son you wouldn’t be affected by evil spirits, right? Although I wasn’t the one who birthed you but I took care of from a young age, your appearance was never like this to begin with, it must’ve happened when you were traveling around." finally acting out the ploy which was revised and discussed, they started to become very emotional.
"I will call upon the elders in the village to discuss what to do about this...if truly the eldest son is affected by evil spirits.... we will find ways to get rid of the evil spirits." father Jun said in a tone which seemed like a father who was truly concerned about his son’s wellbeing.
"Ha! these bastards are really something. You guys are really good at it, confusing truth and lies." Yue who was unable to hold it back anymore snorted coldly. Even Xiangzhi, Chuntao, Xiangli and Xiangyi looked shocked beyond words, seemingly these parts wasn’t known to everyone one here. Father Jun, grandma, Dushi, Xangren and Zhao shi seemed to be the only ones who discussed this ploy and Qianshi looked as if she knew a bit but wasn’t among the ploy, she just didn’t tell anyone when she found out.
Yanzhi just glanced at them, his expression cold. It would look as if they were unto the truth about him changing the previous Yanzhi, but in truth they will never know even if he showed a lot of flaws. Whatever said now was just for getting something using that as an excuse, because these people in the first place never knew Yanzhi when he was young, much less even that he didn’t live here after he took over, it was the same with the villagers, no one could say that he has changed because after leaving home at a very young age how could one still be the same wandering outside.
Really, getting rid of them would be much easy....only if it wasn’t for the wishes of the previous Yanzhi to be accepted by them. That wish was just impossible because no matter how much he tolerates them and whatever he gives them, these people would always just want to use him until he had nothing to give anymore before they throw him away. Him taking the body without giving the previous Yanzhi anything in return made it so that he owed him, that’s why he couldn’t do anything to these people because the previous Yanzhi who was a child still thought of these people as family and wanted recognition from them. But no matter, because if he couldn’t do it himself even if he wanted to most of the times, the black clouds covering above these people just tells how awful their end will be. He just had to wait for their end without having to personally lifting his finger.
