Chapter 927: Chapter 929 Mo Ziqi’s Promise (1)
Noon had passed, and Cai Wei, after a good sleep, awoke. The first thing she did upon waking was to instruct Chun Liu to boil water, as she wished to bathe and change, incidentally bidding farewell to her dear menstruation.
Chun Liu hesitantly said, "Miss, Guard Feng has ordered that to avoid detection by outsiders, we cannot light fires during the day at our manor."
Cai Wei replied incredulously, "We can’t light a fire? How will we cook? Surely we aren’t expected to eat raw food for three meals a day?"
Chun Liu said, "Guard Feng mentioned that all our meals should be prepared at midnight, during the third watch, or when dark clouds cover the moon, so that no one can see the smoke rising from the chimney. Hence, our three meals a day are all prepared at night and we simply eat them as is during the day."
It might be convenient to eat ready-made meals, but alas, cold rice and soup, no matter how delicious, lose their taste after sitting out all night!
Cai Wei waved her hand dismissively, "Nevermind, just clean the bath tub and fetch some water for me; I still want to bathe first."
"Miss, are you planning to take a bath with cold water? Bathing with cold water can cause illness. It’s better if you endure for now and wait until this matter is over before bathing," Chun Liu earnestly cautioned her.
Cai Wei knew that a woman’s body is fragile and bathing in cold water was harmful, but there were urgencies at hand. At this moment, she could not concern herself with whether a cold bath might harm her body; she just wanted to cleanse herself quickly, communicate with Space, and understand the current situation as soon as possible to decide her next steps.
She gave Chun Liu a sidelong glance, "If you dawdle any more, you can go back to the Bafu Restaurant and stop serving me."
"Miss, your servant has overstepped, I won’t dare again. Please show leniency!"
Chun Liu knelt down and repeatedly pleaded for herself.
Cai Wei hadn’t actually planned to punish her; she just disliked her babbling and had meant to scare her. Seeing that Chun Liu had learned her lesson, she coldly commanded, "Hurry and prepare, and if there is a next time, I will not be lenient."
Feeling sheepish, Chun Liu went off to prepare the water. Cai Wei then called over Huan Qiu and asked her, "Is there any news from the city? Has the Emperor passed away? What is the situation of Duke Li Guo’s Mansion? Are they implicated in any way?"
Huan Qiu shook her head in dismay, "Miss, in order to ensure your safety, Guard Feng has ordered that no one from the manor is allowed to enter or leave without permission, so I don’t know anything about the outside situation."
Cai Wei wasn’t disappointed that Huan Qiu didn’t have any outside news, as her beloved menstruation had already left. Once she had bathed, she could communicate with Space. Then she could send Brother Ying to gather any information she wished to know, which would be even more accurate than the news brought back by the Secret Guards!
Chun Liu quickly cleaned the bath tub and brought back water.
Cai Wei sent her out, closed the door, took her bath, and after her body was refreshed and clean, she successfully entered Space.
Having been absent for several days, everything in Space was normal. Cai Wei called out Brother Ying and instructed it to go to the Palace, to observe the Prince’s every move, and report back immediately if there were any news.
Brother Ying fluttered its feathers and flew off upon receiving the order.
It was now past noon, and Cai Wei hadn’t eaten anything yet. Not wanting to have the manor’s cold food, she strolled around Space’s fields, picked some leeks, cleaned them, and then went to the forest to gather some wild chicken eggs. She minced the cleaned leeks, cooked the eggs, mixed them with the leeks, added cooking essentials like oils and salts, and decided to make leek boxes for lunch.
The leek box is a common northern cuisine similar to dumplings but much larger, shaped like a pancake, usually with one leek box being equivalent in size to five to eight dumplings. The stuffing is made with leeks and eggs, though some also use a mixture of leeks and meat; however, the leek and egg stuffing is more delicious. Although the leek box looks similar to dumplings, their preparation is quite different. They are not steamed or boiled but are fried in a pot with oil, like pancakes!
