Chapter 926: Chapter 928 Sudden Changes (3)
The Emperor had died, and as The Prince, it was his rightful duty to inherit the throne. Although King Qin was the legitimate son and had won a victorious battle, he had committed the unforgivable crimes of regicide and patricide. Anyone who dared to speak for him would be considered complicit and punished for the crime of regicide just the same.
As soon as King Qin returned to the Capital, he would immediately send him to his death, along with all his followers—be it Duke Li Guo, Marquis of Jian’an, Prime Minister Ning, or the Great General of the Protectorate Nation. Anyone who stood with King Qin must die!
And Empress Mo, who had opposed his mother for over twenty years, once he became Emperor, he would turn her into a ’human pig’ to vent his mother’s anger!
...*...*...
In the Back Garden of King Qin’s Mansion, there was a strange rockery with grotesque stones. The rockery was high and vast, and there were many caves within, but the insides were pitch-black and often inhabited by bats, insects, and rats. Thus, the servants in the Mansion seldom went there.
At the moment, several people of varying heights were sneaking into the rockery under the cover of night and crawling into the belly of the mountain through one of the small caves in the rockery.
"Mother, be careful!"
Cai Wei and Mu Zhongqing supported Lady Du from the left and right, each being extremely cautious. She was over four months pregnant.
"Never mind me, I’m fine. Just take care of Wen’er and Wu’er, and don’t let anything happen to them."
"Rest assured, Madam, we are holding the two young masters tight!"
Auntie Liu was carrying Wu’er right behind Mu Zhongqing and his wife, while Zhao Yun and Chun Liu held Wen’er’s hands on each side, walking at the very end of the group.
The interior of the mountain was pitch-dark with not a glint of light. Feng, the guard, took out a firelighter and lit it, holding it in his hand to lead everyone. After they had turned corners for a while, the deeper they went, the more eerie it became. Eventually, they encountered no path ahead, and the group stopped in front of a massive boulder deep within the cave.
Feng stretched out his hand and pressed a groove on the cave wall; suddenly, the boulder in front of them quivered and moved to the left by more than a foot.
"Come in!"
Feng waved to everyone, signaling them to enter the cave.
"No, I don’t want to go in; I’m scared..."
Wu’er, lying on Auntie Liu’s shoulder, glanced fearfully at the dark void, and began to sob softly. Lady Du and Mu Zhongqing stood there with doubtful faces, caught in a dilemma.
Cai Wei said, "Ben Boba, where does this cave lead? Where are you taking us?"
Feng said, "Your Highness, do not worry. This tunnel leads to the edge of Anzhao Temple outside the city. King Qin has a secret manor next to Anzhao Temple, unknown to others. I will take Your Highness there for refuge."
"Good, let’s go!"
Cai Wei was the first to enter, and just as Lady Du was about to stop her, she saw Zhao Yun leading Wen’er in as well, with Chun Liu peeking around and following behind them.
Lady Du and Mu Zhongqing looked at each other and finally, with no other option, said resignedly, "Let’s go!"
Behind them, seeing that both his Mom and Dad had entered, Wu’er stopped crying and timidly buried his little face in Auntie Liu’s shoulder, his shoulders heaving as he was carried into the tunnel.
Once inside, they found that the darkness was not as terrifying as imagined.
The secret passageway was spacious and tall, with candles already lit along the walls by Feng. As the candlelight ignited, the massive boulder rumbled back into place.
"Auntie Liu, I can come down and walk by myself!"
Wu’er wriggled free from Auntie Liu’s embrace, got down to the ground, and started walking with Wen’er. The path was paved with bluestones, winding in all directions, making him feel as though entering a labyrinth, having great fun.
Feng walked at the forefront, lighting candles fixed on the wall as they went. After about an hour, the darkness ahead gradually widened, and to their surprise, there was even a horse carriage parked in the passageway.
"Your Highness, please get on the carriage!"
Feng stepped forward and drew back the curtain of the carriage.
This carriage was smaller and lower than the usual horse carriages, lacking a canopy and barely accommodating them. After another hour or so of travel, the carriage finally stopped.
Feng led them with ease, and when they emerged, they were inside a serene villa.
The villa had high walls and a closed gate. The pitch-black rooms and the courtyard’s knee-high weeds indicated that no one lived there—it was unknown how long it had been desolate.
"Creak..."
The door of the house opened, and in the darkness, a woman’s voice came through, "Has the Royal Consort arrived?"
"Yes, Huan Qiu, please take care of the arrangements!"
"Yes, Guard Feng!"
Huan Qiu? Wasn’t she missing? How come she was here?
Cai Wei was puzzled, and Mu Zhongqing’s family was also curious. When they saw Huan Qiu, still using crutches, they were even more taken aback. What had happened to Huan Qiu?
Guided by feel, Huan Qiu led everyone inside, assigned rooms for them, and made sure everyone laid down before she approached Cai Wei’s side to explain why she had been absent these past few days.
It turned out that on the day she was fetching patterns for the Second Miss and Lady Huo, they encountered an ambush; she was seriously injured and nearly died. Later, she was rescued by a nearby farmer’s wife, recuperated from her injuries for several days at the farmer’s house, and as soon as she recovered slightly, she wanted to return to the Mu Family. However, by then, the Mu Family had moved into King Qin’s Mansion, and there was no longer a need for her protection. Therefore, King Qin had sent her to this manor to recover from her injuries, and she would return once she had completely healed...
