Chapter 896: Chapter 898 Helen Xue’s Resentment (2)
"Hehe, that’s because the Emperor already regards you, Yi’er, as the potential heir apparent. Therefore, he cannot allow any blemish on your reputation. Now that you have returned victorious, all you need to do is to ascertain who is behind the plot against Duke Li Guo Mansion. Then you can immediately clear yourself of the accusation of harming your brothers. After that, it will only be natural for the Emperor to appoint you as The Prince and restore your Imperial Mother, the Empress’s, privileges!"
Nangong Yi bowed his head and said, "Grandson understands. Grandson will do his best!"
The old master added, "You must be cautious. Jin Guifei and The Prince have been scheming for many years and are not so easily defeated. A single misstep could lead to total defeat. You must not underestimate your enemy."
"Grandson understands. I will proceed to take care of it promptly and will not disappoint you!"
Nangong Yi stood up, gave a formal bow to his maternal grandfather, and said respectfully, "It’s already very late. Please rest, Grandfather. I will head back now. Just wait for the good news!"
...
After leaving Enxi Hall, Nangong Yi headed straight for the Western Corner Gate of Duke Li Guo Mansion. By the time he arrived there, the little girl had not yet returned. Nangong Yi waited near the corner for nearly an hour without seeing the little girl return. Suddenly, he saw thick smoke rising from next door at the Guangling prince’s mansion—it was clearly on fire!
It was summer, and the weather was dry and hot. The fire quickly spread, and in less than fifteen minutes, the Guangling prince’s mansion had become a sea of fire, apparently beyond salvation!
As Nangong Yi was shaking his head in resignation, Cai Wei arrived back, panting heavily. She was running fast, and under the moonlight, one could see fine beads of sweat on her forehead.
"Why did it take so long?" The man held a handkerchief, gently wiping her sweat.
Cai Wei chuckled, "It’s nothing, I finally saw my younger sister and had a few extra words to say, haha..."
"Is your younger sister all right? She hasn’t been treated unfairly at Duke Li Guo Mansion, has she?"
When he asked this question, Nangong Yi’s face showed a touch of anxiety. If the little girl’s younger sister had suffered at her maternal grandfather’s house, it would have been strange if the little girl didn’t tear into him.
Fortunately, the little girl’s answer was, "No!"
Although her tone wasn’t too pleasant when she spoke these two words, the word ’no’ was enough to put his mind at ease.
"Let’s go back. It won’t be good to leave after it gets light!"
Cai Wei said, as she softly called forth the white-furred tiger.
To the sight of the suddenly appearing giant tiger, Nangong Yi had long been accustomed. He took Cai Wei’s hand, leaped onto the tiger’s back, and the two of them, with the cover of the night, swiftly left Duke Li Guo Mansion and appeared back at King Qin’s Mansion in the blink of an eye.
When they reached the entrance of Bell Essence Garden, Cai Wei said softly, "You should also head back and rest early. There’s still work to be done tomorrow!"
Nangong Yi nodded, "Mhm, let’s go to sleep early." With that, he stepped toward the inner room of Bell Essence Garden.
Cai Wei quickly intercepted him, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"To sleep, of course. Didn’t you just say that I should go to bed early?" The man replied as if it were the most natural thing.
"Nangong Yi!" Cai Wei gritted her teeth, "Don’t you go too far. Dad and Mom are still here, and you dare to sneak into my room. Are you intentionally trying to make things difficult for me?"
"They won’t find out. I guarantee it!"
Nangong Yi cooed gently, almost whining as he assured the little girl. It had already been two days since he had been intimate with the little girl, and he was feeling pain all over from the yearning. Tonight, he wouldn’t leave, no matter what!
But Cai Wei wouldn’t agree, "No, it’s not worth the risk no matter how slim. If Dad and Mom found out we slept together, they would be disappointed with me. You should leave."
Without further discussion, she pushed the man out, closed the door, and headed for her own room.
