Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart -
Chapter 539 - 538: He Who Pays More Gets It
Chapter 539: Chapter 538: He Who Pays More Gets It
The magic of life lies in its ability to plant seeds inadvertently, those little things that once seemed trivial will one day break ground and sprout, bearing fruit that may be good or bad.
Today, Wang Shumei received one of these fruits.
Seeing the Americans with their pained expressions, she knew she had made the right call.
Breathing out softly, only then did she realize her clothes were soaked through with sweat.
They dawdled for quite a while before writing down their offers. The interpreter took the offers and asked Wang Shumei, "Should I write it down for you or read it to you directly?"
She had never been in this situation before and didn’t know what to do.
Wang Shumei smiled at her and said, "Just read it out, thank you for your hard work."
The interpreter beamed a brilliant smile and began to read, "Mr. Rubin owns one of the largest supermarkets in America, and he is willing to place the Head Flower in the most prominent area for sale; he will cover the shipping costs; he is willing to increase the price by 5.5%."
"Mr. Brown has stores across six states, and he is willing to prominently recommend Head Flower in all his shops; he will cover the shipping costs; he is willing to increase the price by 5.5%."
Wang Shumei: "..."
Had she not seen them write separately like guarding against thieves, she would have suspected they had colluded!
What’s with the identical last two items?
Wang Shumei didn’t speak, a myriad of thoughts whirling in her mind.
It seemed that a 5.5% increase was already the limit that they could bear; otherwise, it wasn’t possible for both to have come up with exactly the same offer. There was no more room for a higher bid.
The only thing she could compare now was the first item.
One was the biggest store, the other covered stores across six states.
"Tap, tap, tap."
Wang Shumei tapped the table lightly with her fingertips out of habit.
For no reason, the words she had said to Carl not long before echoed again in her mind—
"We don’t care if you have a marketplace spanning 1.6 million square feet, a space of twenty square meters is enough for our Head Flower."
She slowly exhaled a breath of relief and extended her right hand towards Mr. Brown, "Pleasure doing business."
The largest store sounded impressive, but Wang Shumei thought that ordinary people wouldn’t possibly travel across several states to shop. Putting herself in their shoes, she would not go all the way from Hei Province to Sui City for a mere Head Flower.
Mr. Brown’s eyes lit up instantly. He pumped his fist a couple of times before remembering to shake Wang Shumei’s hand.
Rubin, on the other hand, was dumbstruck, unable to understand why he had lost, given that his offer was already the limit. He couldn’t believe that Brown could offer a higher price!
But... he didn’t dare to cause a scene. He had the good example of Carl just ahead; he didn’t want to be publicly held at gunpoint to his head.
Still, Rubin had some gentlemanly demeanor. Despite his reluctance, he managed a forced smile and shook Brown’s hand, offering a few polite, inoffensive compliments. He then exchanged pleasantries with Wang Shumei about future cooperation before exiting the scene, gritting his teeth.
Wang Shumei, with a calm demeanor, took out the product list for him to choose the quantity, yet her heart was pounding nonstop.
She suspected she had made the wrong choice.
But she couldn’t show that, and had to tough it out.
Every minute and second that followed was an ordeal for Wang Shumei, with sweat incessantly dripping down, her handkerchief becoming damp.
Brown was also very meticulous in his selection, seeking both Wang Shumei’s advice and the assistance of the interpreter.
Wang Shumei was immensely anxious, but she had to muster her spirit and deal with Brown’s various questions.
Finally, after he placed the order, with the interpreter’s help, they signed the contract. Brown then turned to Wang Shumei with a smile, "Miss Wang, may I ask if there will be more quotas available during the autumn trade fair?"
"Of course." Wang Shumei smiled and nodded, "But you need to come a bit earlier."
"That’s for sure, that’s for sure!"
Brown carefully pocketed the contract and shook hands with Wang Shumei once more, gallantly opening the door for her, his chivalry impeccably displayed.
Wang Shumei maintained her smile as she left, barely holding herself together until she got back to the booth, where she couldn’t help but lose her composure upon seeing Lin Nianhe: "Nianhe! I think I made the wrong choice!"
"Ah? What happened?" Lin Nianhe, munching on a peach cake with crumbs still on the corner of her mouth, blinked and asked.
"I had to choose between the biggest store in the entire United States and markets in six states, and I chose the six states!" Wang Shumei gripped Lin Nianhe’s wrist, eyes wide with panic, "I felt like I made a mistake right after choosing! But I couldn’t change it!"
Lin Nianhe’s hand felt as cold as ice to the touch.
She swallowed her mouthful of food and gave Wang Shumei a thumbs-up: "Sister Shumei, you made the best decision out of everyone here."
"Ah?" Wang Shumei, with tears in her eyes, "Nianhe, don’t try to comfort me!"
"I’m serious, if you don’t believe me, ask Uncle Wong." Lin Nianhe looked at Wong Xiao.
Wong Xiao didn’t speak or move; not even his eyeballs shifted, as if he had turned to stone.
Lin Nianhe: "Sister Lan, go!"
Wen Lan poured out two fast-acting relief pills, pried open Wong Xiao’s mouth, stuffed in the pills, and considerately closed his mouth for him.
Her proficiency in the act was pitiful enough to make one feel sorry for Uncle Wong.
Seeing Wong Xiao gradually recovering, Lin Nianhe turned back, pulled Wang Shumei to sit down, and analyzed carefully: "North America is vast, and it’s different from Xiangjiang and Milan. The biggest store sounds intimidating, but its actual influence is far less than the market share in six states. You really did choose correctly; I’m not conning you."
Wang Shumei blinked her dry eyes and took a long, long sigh of relief.
She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and picked up the teacup on the table, drinking it all in one go, her voice tinged with a sob: "This environment is so terrifying, my heart was about to jump out!"
"Ah, you’ll get used to it over time." Lin Nianhe smiled and poured her another cup of hot tea, "There will be plenty of opportunities in the future."
Wang Shumei held the teacup to warm her hands, taking some time to recover, then handed the contract to Wong Xiao: "Uncle Wong, I made those two North Americans bid against each other. They will bear the shipping costs, plus an additional 5.5%."
Wong Xiao, just recovered, turned to stone once again.
This time, Wen Lan didn’t wait for Lin Nianhe’s reminder and directly gave Wong Xiao another two pills.
Lin Nianhe gave Wang Shumei a thumbs-up again: "Really, Sister Shumei, taking those two to the negotiation room with you was a stroke of genius. Brilliant."
Wang Shumei smiled awkwardly: "I didn’t think too much at the time, herding one sheep is driving, herding two is releasing... I actually wanted them to discuss how to divide the quota among themselves, but they both wanted exclusivity, and so..."
Wen Lan: "Have you two never considered foreign businessmen as people?"
Lin Nianhe clicked her tongue and said casually: "Different clans harbor different intentions."
"Then go beat them to death!"
"Sister Lan, you were just born in the wrong era. If you were born in the Qin Dynasty, with your enchanting ancestors to support you, we wouldn’t even need to learn English now."
"Hahahahaha..."
The laughter of the three ladies allowed Uncle Wong to finally catch his breath.
He looked at them, his eyes moistening.
He leaned on the table to stand up and bowed deeply to the girls.
"Girls, I represent the elders and folks of Lan County and thank you."
His voice trembled, and hot tears streamed down his cheeks.
The silver hair became especially glaring in the glow of the setting sun.
