Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart -
Chapter 261 - 260: Tell a Story
Chapter 261: Chapter 260: Tell a Story
Originally, Zheng Lirong just wanted to send her two children to stay at Ten Miles Team. With Lin Nianhe’s protection, at least those who made things difficult for them wouldn’t dare to come knocking on their door.
Originally, Zheng Lirong dared not trust Lin Nianhe’s goods anymore, fearing that she would end up like Bai Bo. In that case, her children would become orphans.
But now, her coming here was a coincidence, and so was Qian Guozhu’s; this couldn’t have been premeditated, especially since even she didn’t know that she would come here until last night.
Zheng Lirong had heard Bai Bo boast about Lin Nianhe’s goods often, how great and rare they were, and she couldn’t help but think, if she could cooperate with Lin Nianhe...
Seeing the continuous change in her expression, Lin Nianhe’s lips curled up slightly and she said, "Sister Lirong, I’ve said everything I needed to say, and I don’t want to persuade you, just think it over yourself."
Zheng Lirong thought for a moment, then asked, "If I don’t cooperate with you, you’ll go find someone else in the provincial city, right?"
Lin Nianhe had thought about this before, after all, the market in the provincial city was big, and she was indeed a bit reluctant to part with it.
But after Zheng Lirong arrived, she completely dismissed the idea.
Seeing the refugee-like state of Zheng Lirong and her two daughters, it was obvious that shortly after Bai Bo’s death, their former peers had come to bully the widow and orphans.
She’d rather earn less than cooperate with such morally questionable people.
However...
Lin Nianhe took a tactical sip of water, then after a moment of silence, she vaguely said, "Business is business."
Zheng Lirong reasonably interpreted Lin Nianhe’s words to mean: Yes, I will cooperate with someone else.
She couldn’t help but give a wry smile.
"You see, right now I really have no choice," Zheng Lirong spread her hands, staring at her palm and slowly said, "If I don’t get goods from you, when those fat guys get up, they’ll chew all three of us to the bone, but if I cooperate with you..."
She couldn’t continue speaking and turned to look at Lin Nianhe.
That look seemed to say: Cooperating with you, it feels like I could die at any moment too.
Lin Nianhe blinked innocently, "Sister Lirong, like I said, as long as you don’t touch those messy affairs, I absolutely won’t go against you... Actually, I would also prefer a partner who’s more familiar, so I don’t have to make another trip to the provincial city."
At first listen, these words seemed a bit comforting, but the more Zheng Lirong thought about it, the more she just ended up with a bitter smile.
If she didn’t cooperate with Lin Nianhe, the consequence for her was only "another trip to the provincial city."
It really wasn’t much trouble at all.
Zheng Lirong pursed her lips, pondered for a long time, and then tentatively said, "Almost all of our family’s money was confiscated, I don’t have much money."
Lin Nianhe said without concern, "Mm, no problem, I can supply you with goods first."
Zheng Lirong looked at her, shocked.
Lin Nianhe said, "You’ve left your two children here with me, how could I fear you might refuse to pay the debt?"
Zheng Lirong: "..."
So, she had actively delivered two hostages over?
Lin Nianhe couldn’t help but chuckle, and she patted Zheng Lirong on the shoulder, saying, "Sister, this is a big decision for you, take your time to think about it. But don’t worry, I will take good care of the two children."
After saying this, she stood up and went back inside to check on Zheng Shan and Bai Xiaojun.
Zheng Shan was just the same as when she left, with only her occasionally blinking eyes showing that the child was still alive.
Bai Xiaojun was holding a small wooden gun, so sleepy he could hardly keep his eyes open.
Lin Nianhe sat down beside Bai Xiaojun, rubbing his head and saying, "Are you tired? How about taking a nap first? When you wake up, I’ll ask a brother from the village to take you fishing."
Bai Xiaojun looked at her, his tiny mouth slightly open.
Lin Nianhe made the bed, took a warm towel to clean his hands and face, and let him get into bed for a nap.
Bai Xiaojun lay down, and then Lin Nianhe asked Zheng Shan, "Shanshan, are you tired? Do you want to sleep for a bit, too?"
Zheng Shan lifted her head to look at her, then barely perceptibly shook her head before lowering it again.
Nianhe’s heart couldn’t help but sour at the sight.
She watched Zheng Shan for a while, then reached over to take a fruit-flavored candy and put it into her mouth.
Zheng Shan lifted her head again, her eyes full of confusion as she looked at Lin Nianhe.
"My little brother told me that when you’re feeling down, eating a piece of candy can make things a lot better," said Lin Nianhe softly.
It was as if Zheng Shan didn’t understand the meaning of her words at all, just staring blankly at Lin Nianhe.
Lin Nianhe didn’t say anything more. She stuffed a pillow behind Zheng Shan to make her more comfortable, then went over to where Bai Xiaojun was lying down.
The little guy was huddled uncertainly in his blanket, clutching his wooden toy gun, eyes full of unease.
Lin Nianhe patted his back and said, "Let me tell you a story."
Bai Xiaojun’s eyes moved around, then he looked at her.
"In a place far, far away from us, farther than the sun, on the planet Cybertron, there lived Transformers, uh, Autobots..."
Lin Nianhe wanted to tell an inspiring story that would comfort and motivate both children.
But as soon as she started, both little guys actually fell asleep.
Afraid of waking Zheng Shan, Lin Nianhe did not move her, just wrapped her up tightly in another blanket.
She drew the curtains closed and quietly left the room.
Just as she stepped out of the room, before she even had a chance to speak to Zheng Lirong, she met two pairs of eyes filled with a desire for knowledge.
Cao Shijian: "Did Optimus Prime really come here? How come I haven’t seen him?"
Wu Genmao: "When did they come, and can they just blow away all the little devils?"
Lin Nianhe: "..."
When did these two show up?
She glanced at Zheng Lirong and, seeing that she was still resting her chin in her hands, gazing dreamily into the distance, knew that Wu and Cao had been there for quite a while.
Lin Nianhe closed the door properly before turning to Wu Genmao’s plaster-cast left hand and asking, "How come you were discharged so quickly? Did the doctor give the okay?"
Wu Genmao waved his plaster-cast left hand and grinned broadly, "There was nothing to do at the clinic, just lying there all day... I don’t know what they’re thinking, it’s my arm that’s hurt, not my legs, why insist on making me lie down?"
Cao Shijian also chimed in, "Exactly, lying down anywhere is just lying down, and lying down in the clinic costs money."
Lin Nianhe: "The miracle of life."
Getting beaten up to the point of being unrecognizable, and bouncing around again in just over a week, if that’s not a miracle, what is?
She held her forehead, silent for a moment before asking, "Does your arm still hurt?"
Wu Genmao bared his teeth, "It hurts, but it doesn’t hinder anything."
Lin Nianhe said, "Later, I’ll find you some painkillers, take them if it hurts too much."
"No need, why waste the money?" Wu Genmao laughed, "I’m tough!"
Lin Nianhe didn’t want to argue with them, so she said, "You two go rest over there for a while."
Wu Cao: "No need! We’re not tired!"
They came to find their new big brother; how could they be tired?
Lin Nianhe looked at the two pairs of hopeful eyes, then turned her head to glance at the tightly closed door.
Really, their timing couldn’t have been better.
