Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart
Chapter 260 - 259: It Still Has to Be Sister Shumei

Chapter 260: Chapter 259: It Still Has to Be Sister Shumei

Whether it’s hatred or love, Lin Nianhe doesn’t care.

She only cares about little money.

If she could restore Zheng Lirong and the black market, she could sit and count money, lie down and count money, or kneel and count money... count it any way she wants.

However, it’s clear that Zheng Lirong doesn’t want to do business with her.

Lin Nianhe felt a bit frustrated and couldn’t think of a good reason to persuade her.

After all, their family really took a big tumble here; how could they just jump back in with their eyes closed?

While Lin Nianhe was racking her brains thinking, laughter came from the front yard.

It sounded so joyous, as if while bending over to tie shoelaces, someone inadvertently found two banknotes; the main voice was Wang Shumei’s, mixed with a slightly lower pitch that Lin Nianhe hadn’t heard before.

She turned her head and saw Wang Shumei leading a young girl around the east wall. The girl looked about thirteen or fourteen years old, with features somewhat similar to Wang Shumei. Her little face was clean and white, with two small braids, wearing new clothes, and presumably walking very carefully, as there wasn’t a single crease on her clothes.

Behind them followed Qian Guozhu, carrying a big bag; he was grinning and seemed happy watching the sisters.

"Nianhe, this is my little sister, Wang Xiaoxiao." Wang Shumei, who had never met Zheng Lirong, didn’t take it too seriously and cheerfully introduced her to Lin Nianhe, not forgetting to say to Wang Xiaoxiao, "Xiaoxiao, this is your Sister Nianhe."

"Sister Nianhe." Wang Xiaoxiao called out politely.

Lin Nianhe often heard Wang Shumei talk about her siblings and had seen their photos on her desk, so she recognized Wang Xiaoxiao immediately.

She smiled, stood up, and went to pinch Wang Xiaoxiao’s cheek, asking with a smile, "Are you here to see your sister? Why didn’t you say something in advance?"

"My brother swapped a day off with a colleague, and Xiaoxiao is on holiday, so we brought her over to see me," Wang Shumei said joyfully, her eyes squinted with happiness, holding her sister and not letting go. "My sister-in-law made a pair of cotton shoes for you and Xiao Lan, wait a moment, I’ll get them for you."

Saying this, she turned to look at Qian Guozhu carrying the bag.

Only then did she notice that Qian Guozhu’s smile had disappeared at some point, his eyebrows twisted as he stared at Zheng Lirong sitting by the table.

"Bro?" Wang Shumei asked with some confusion.

Qian Guozhu hummed a response but didn’t take his eyes off her, still full of caution. He asked in a low voice, "Sister Lin, what is she doing here?"

He had just heard from Wang Shumei on the way about Bai Bo being shot, a long-standing worry finally settling, but then he saw someone related to Bai Bo again.

Zheng Lirong felt bitter when she saw Qian Guozhu.

This young man was also present that day when another was beaten; although she didn’t participate, it was still her family’s fault. If he held a grudge and wanted revenge, it wasn’t a big deal for her, but she was worried about scaring the children again.

She stood up, considering negotiating with him to talk outside if there was an issue, at least not in front of the children.

Before Zheng Lirong could approach, Lin Nianhe said, "She’s here to see me, nothing else. Brother Qian, you indeed suffered that day, but she and the children have nothing to do with it."

During this conversation, Zheng Lirong had already walked up close.

She didn’t hide behind Lin Nianhe but faced the imposing Qian Guozhu directly, saying, "Big brother, that day was our fault, you see, the children are still inside, can we discuss any issues outside, please?"

Qian Guozhu stared at her, not speaking for a long while.

Even Wang Xiaoxiao felt something was wrong, instinctively shrinking into her sister Wang Shumei’s arms.

Wang Shumei pulled Qian Guozhu’s arm and whispered, "Brother, what are you doing? You scared Xiaoxiao."

Qian Guozhu turned his head to look at the quail-like Wang Xiaoxiao, then wiped his face and said, "It’s nothing, nothing."

He looked back at Zheng Lirong and nodded to her, saying, "My issues are resolved, you tried to mediate that day, I can’t blame you, let’s not mention it again in the future."

Zheng Lirong breathed a sigh of relief and still said "sorry" to Qian Guozhu.

Qian Guozhu didn’t say anything more, just followed behind his two sisters, silently bypassing Zheng Lirong, and went back to Wang Shumei’s hut.

"Brother, where’s the money?" Wang Shumei asked as soon as she entered the room.

Qian Guozhu glanced outside the window and whispered, "Let’s wait until she leaves. You don’t know her, that’s Bai Bo’s wife."

"I figured as much," Wang Shumei said, "That’s why I asked you for the money."

Qian Guozhu looked at her suspiciously, failing to understand the connection between the two matters.

"Hurry up, it will be inappropriate later." Wang Shumei was getting anxious, if she didn’t know where Qian Guozhu had put the money, she probably would have started searching herself.

With curiosity in his heart, Qian Guozhu still pulled out a cloth pouch from close to his chest, containing two envelopes and a paper package.

He pushed the paper package towards Wang Shumei: "This is for Sister Lin, these two are for you and Comrade Wen."

Wang Shumei grabbed the paper package and left the house. As she opened the door, she didn’t forget to say to Wang Xiaoxiao, "Xiaoxiao, wait a moment, your sister will find you something tasty."

Wang Xiaoxiao was confused all along, she nodded upon hearing this, and then quickly shook her head: "Sis, no need, I’m not hungry."

Wang Xiaoxiao wanted to follow her out, but Qian Guozhu grabbed the collar of her clothes and pulled her back.

"Don’t stop her, your sister has important things to do," Qian Guozhu shook his head at Wang Xiaoxiao.

Wang Xiaoxiao tilted her head and could not understand the world of her elder siblings.

Wang Shumei holding the paper package, casually strolled up to Lin Nianhe, threw the package into her arms, and said cheerfully, "Shopkeeper, sell me two cans?"

Lin Nianhe peeked into the paper package and, seeing the money, she smiled, "Right away, sir."

She cheerfully took the money inside, pulled out a cloth pouch, and filled it with two of each type of canned goods and some snacks.

She handed the cloth pouch back to Wang Shumei and asked her, "When is Xiaoxiao leaving?"

"By tonight’s train, she can stay for the afternoon," Wang Shumei said with a smile, "You guys chat first, come to my place for dinner tonight, my brother got a lot of tasty food."

"Sure," Lin Nianhe agreed in one breath and sat back down on the small stool.

Wang Shumei left with the canned goods bag, and also closed the door behind her.

The courtyard returned to silence. After drinking some water, Lin Nianhe said, "Sister Lirong, you don’t need to worry, Brother Qian wasn’t holding a grudge just now, he was just afraid something might go wrong again."

Zheng Lirong looked at Lin Nianhe with a complex gaze, pondered for a long while, and finally could not refrain from asking: "You weren’t really in this line of work, were you?"

She had seen it just now. That package was full of money. Such a thick stack must be worth several thousand.

And she knew that Qian Guozhu didn’t bring any merchandise last time he went to the provincial city.

Lin Nianhe looked at Zheng Lirong and inwardly sighed for the umpteenth time—

It has to be my Sister Shumei! Such an excellent assist!

She felt joyful inside, but still appeared nonchalant on the surface, even somewhat helpless, "Yes, I already told you so."

"Then why did you unraveled my man’s stall?"

"I said before, that’s because he got involved in things he shouldn’t have touched."

"..."

Zheng Lirong had nothing to say.

Her heart was a mess.
