Chapter 655: Chapter 324 Little Squirrel_1

Qian Yixiu picked up pearls and lotus seeds without fussing over their quality. She thought that pearls from Cave Sky Pool must be of good quality.

After a short while, she started to sweat from the heat. The climate here was warm and she was dressed too warmly. She ran behind a huge rock to take off her cotton-padded jacket and pants, leaving only her lined clothes and vest.

By noon, she had cleaned out all the pearls and lotus seeds by the poolside. She had filled two pouches full of pearls, and a small sack half full of lotus seeds.

When she looked up, she saw many fresh tea leaves drying on a large rock not far away. The Nameless Monk was still working hard, his efficiency even higher.

Qian Yixiu gathered some firewood and made a fire to boil water and prepare for soaking steamed buns. This time, they brought leavened buns, which were more convenient to carry. Since Master Wuming was a monk, they didn’t bring any meat.

As she was doing these tasks, the little squirrel followed her closely, afraid she would leave it behind.

Qian Yixiu sat down and held the little squirrel in her arms. She kissed its tiny head from time to time and whispered, "I can’t bear to part with you either. But you can’t come with me. Here, you are a fairy squirrel and might live a hundred years. If you go out, and if you turn into an ordinary little squirrel, who knows how long you could live."

The little squirrel couldn’t speak and just nudged its little nose and mouth, showing it was heartbroken.

Once the water was boiled, Qian Yixiu called for Nameless to have lunch. While eating, she also fed a little to the little squirrel.

Liang Jinzhao didn’t come down the mountain with Shan Dian and Yin Feng until the afternoon. His face looked bad as he spoke anxiously to the eager Nameless and Qian Yixiu, "Looking at the sky, the weather in the mountains won’t be good for the next two days. Not only will it snow, but the key is the strong wind. In such bad weather, not only Yixiu but even Monkey Brother and Master Wuming might not be able to make it through that mountain detour."

Although Cave Sky Pool was nice, they still wanted to leave quickly. Zi Zhu needed to be delivered to Capital City as soon as possible, and Qian Yixiu also worried that Grandfather Sangui’s condition would worsen from concern.

The group sat in silence for a while. Nameless was the first to get up, clasped his hands together and said, "Amitabha, since we are here, let us be content. Everything is predestined, and we must stay calm and remain here for two days." Having said that, he went off to pick tea from the mountainside.

Liang Jinzhao also smiled and said, "That’s right, our haste is of no use. Come, I will take you to see the mountaintop, the scenery there is also very good."

When Qian Yixiu was a ghost, she had traversed all the surrounding mountains, though she could only roam them at night.

There were few animals in the mountains, besides small birds, the most common were little squirrels and rabbits, and occasionally, a few sika deer could be seen, without any ferocious beasts.

Perhaps, the big White Snake guarding the Serpent Vine Chrysanthemum was the only frightening creature here, but it generally didn’t go down the mountain.

Every year, just Fierce Red Monkeys would come here twice to eat Golden honey peaches and golden lotus roots but wouldn’t harm these creatures. Of course, the clams in the pool were exceptions.

So, the mountain was very safe.

Carrying the little squirrel and accompanied by Shan Dian and Yin Feng, Qian Yixiu followed Jinzhao up the mountain. This side of the mountain was evergreen all year round, full of beautiful trees, a completely different world from the icy snowy surroundings.

Although the environment here defied natural order, it wouldn’t flower in winter; spring came earlier than outside, usually blooming with hundreds of flowers by February.

Upon entering the mountains, they frequently saw rabbits. Shan Dian and Yin Feng were used to catching rabbits outside and hadn’t tasted meat for more than a day, so they drooled with anticipation. But they were obedient treasures, their master had instructed them: this was the Fairy Realm, the creatures here all had spiritual natures, and they must not be eaten.

Seeing them drooling but not chasing the rabbits, Qian Yixiu praised them with a smile, "Such good kids. Once we’re out, I’ll get you delicious stewed pork bones to eat."

As she talked to Doggy, she failed to notice a small stone beneath her feet. She slipped and fell forward, only to be quickly pulled up by Big Uncle.

Jinzhao held onto one of her hands and continued walking forward.

Qian Yixiu pulled her hand away twice without success and grumbled, "I can walk by myself."

Jinzhao didn’t look back but said as they walked, "Having carried you on my back, holding your hand is nothing. When we return to the Capital City, I’m going to ask someone to propose on my behalf to your family."

Qian Yixiu’s face grew warm and she retorted defiantly, "Who said that just because you carried and held me, I must marry you?"

Jinzhao stopped, looked down at her and said, "Yixiu, I didn’t only carry you and hold your hand, but I also massaged you. After all this, could you really marry another man?"
