Chapter 312: Chapter 192: Success_2
Qian Yixiu thought for a moment, then removed the Phoenix Eye Bodhi Beads from her wrist and wrapped them around Monkey Brother’s wrist several times. She said, "The master once said that snakes and insects are afraid of these beads. Put this string of beads on the flower, and if it can drive away the snake, that would be best. If it can’t drive it away, you must fight, but remember that safety comes first. Also, if possible, try not to harm the White Snake. Things complement each other; the presence of Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums attracts Spirit Snakes and vice versa, the presence of Spirit Snakes leads to the blooming of Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums..."
As the sun gradually moved westward, hanging above the western mountain peaks, Qian Yixiu had an early dinner with the House of Animals. She was so preoccupied that she couldn’t eat and kept urging Monkey Brother to eat more.
When the last glimmer of the sun was washed away by the dark mist and countless bright stars were lit in the firmament, Monkey Brother was ready to depart.
In fact, it would have been much better for Monkey Brother to go during the day when the light was much better. But Qian Yixiu had only seen the Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums at night and did not know what the place would be like during the day, or whether there would be other dangers. Thus, she had no choice but to send Monkey Brother at night.
During her time as a ghost, Qian Yixiu had scouted the road from Cave Sky Pool to that mountain peak many times and estimated that Monkey Brother could reach it in less than half an hour based on his speed.
It seemed that Monkey Sister also knew the great dangers awaiting Monkey Brother on his journey, as she started to whimper sadly. Seeing this, Monkey Brother comforted her with soft squeaks.
Good heavens, looking at the sappiness between this brother and sister pair, they really do resemble a couple.
Qian Yixiu, holding Monkey Sister with the House of Animals in tow, sent Monkey Brother to the foot of the mountain on the east side of Cave Sky Pool. From here, he would set off toward that mountain peak.
Qian Yixiu stopped and again said to Monkey Brother, "Be sure to stay safe on this journey. It would be great if you can pick the Serpent Vine Chrysanthemum, but if you can’t, we can always come back in five years."
Monkey Brother nodded, waved goodbye to her (them) like a warrior, then leaped up onto a tree, and with another jump, he clambered onto a large rock on the mountain, disappearing into the thick foliage in the blink of an eye.
Qian Yixiu suppressed the anxiousness in her heart and, holding Monkey Sister, moved to the edge of the Peach Grove. She sat against a peach tree, gazing at the mountain peak in the east, and continually estimated Monkey Brother’s probable location.
By the time the waning moon was about to reach its zenith, Monkey Brother should have arrived at that cliff. Qian Yixiu’s heart suddenly began to race, and she brought her hands together, ceaselessly praying, "Blessings of the Bodhisattva, blessings of the Bodhisattva, blessings of the Bodhisattva..."
At this time, Monkey Brother had indeed reached near that cliff and was standing on a large tree that grew diagonally from the rocky mountain. Three meters away on the cliff, leaning inward was a rock cave, and on the edge of the cliff grew a lush and leafy plant. At the very top of the plant’s stem bloomed two red flowers, radiant as morning clouds. When a night breeze passed, countless silk-like petals scattered into the air, their beauty almost bewitching.
But, a White Snake as thick as a bowl coiled around the plant. The White Snake had already spotted the intruder; it raised its head and glared angrily, hissing at Monkey Brother with its long tongue.
The clever Monkey Brother did not dare to rashly rush forward; he took a stone out of his waist pouch and threw it at the snake. However, he did not dare to aim at the snake’s head, as that would damage the flowers, so he could only aim for the snake’s body. The stone was not small, and Monkey Brother was strong; if the stone had hit a human, it surely would have broken a bone. But when it struck the snake, it was like hitting cotton, with no reaction.
After several stones were thrown without being able to drive the snake away, on the contrary, they provoked the snake’s rage. Its body began to loosen; while the latter half remained coiled in place, the front half lunged toward the tree where Monkey Brother stood.
The White Snake was nearly ten meters long; even just the front half of its body could stretch up to the tree. But, just short of reaching it, the snake smelled a terrifying scent and hastily retreated.
Monkey Brother guessed it was afraid of the beads on him, so he took the Phoenix Eye Bodhi Beads off his wrist and threw them at the plant. Monkey Brother’s aim, honed over time, was precise; the Bodhi Beads perfectly hooked onto the very top of the plant’s branches, with the two Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums nestled inside them.
Before long, the White Snake’s body gradually began to redden and loosen. It seemed reluctant to leave the flower, but as its body increasingly failed it, it had to crawl toward the rock cave.
Once the White Snake had completely abandoned the plant, Monkey Brother leapt into the air and landed on the cliff. He first picked the two flowers and put them into his waist pouch, then he took the Bodhi Beads from the plant’s branches and stored them in his pouch as well.
He looked up and saw the White Snake in the cave gazing at him with tears in its eyes, filled with sorrow. Perhaps because Monkey Brother had been influenced by the Old Monk’s chants, he felt a deep sadness seeing the White Snake’s tears. After a moment of thought, he took it upon himself to leave one of the Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums on the cliff, then leapt back onto the large tree.
