Chapter 166: Chapter 138: Accident_1
Although Qian Yixiu had never tasted the tea here before, she frequented the Wuxi Tea Building and watched the people there grade the tea into different levels before processing it, and gradually she learned to "examine tea." Judging by its appearance, the tea here should be of supreme quality. Moreover, these tea trees were growing in a place as beautiful as the Immortal Realm. The air here was fresh, the spring water was crystal clear, and it was untouched by the contamination of the secular world.
She picked nearly a full basket, then lifted her head to check the sky. It was probably the beginning of the Si Hour, and she could not stay any longer. If she left now, she would most likely make it home before sunset.
Qian Yixiu hurriedly approached the Cave Sky Pool and shouted loudly, "Monkey Brother, stop playing and come up to help your sister snap off a few peach twigs; it’s time to go home."
She planned to take the peach twigs back home to graft onto her own peach tree.
She intended to make growing peaches, lotus roots, and tea leaves the main enterprise of her household in the future. Selling things like pearls and ginseng could only be a secret way to make a fortune, which she dared not openly acknowledge.
Monkey Brother ignored Qian Yixiu’s call and dove back into the water.
Qian Yixiu stamped her foot in frustration and waited. When he still didn’t surface after a while, just as she was about to curse, she saw Monkey Brother emerge from the water, excitedly yelling and holding something in his hand. It wasn’t until he swam to the shore that she saw clearly; what he held was a large clamshell.
After Monkey Brother came ashore, he hastily pried open the clamshell, pulled out a lump of flesh, and stuffed it into his mouth, savoring it delightfully before carelessly tossing the shell onto the ground. The sequence of actions flowed as smoothly as moving clouds and flowing water, identical to his father, the Monkey King.
Qian Yixiu watched Monkey Brother in astonishment. After he threw the clamshell on the ground, she hurried over, bent down, and picked up the clamshell. Tearing off the inner membrane, she found three perfectly round pearls about the size of longan fruits lying inside: one pure white, one pink, and one light green. The pearls were moist and lustrous with brilliant colors, and under the sunlight, they glittered even more, faintly emanating a golden glow in the shape of lotuses.
Each one alone, of course, could not compare to the Purple Big Pearl, but combined, they were a formidable match.
My goodness, what an unexpected delight! Qian Yixiu laughed heartily, her crisp laughter piercing the sky and startling the little birds in the Peach Grove into flight.
She knew that Fierce Red Monkeys liked to eat clam meat but, most of the time, only the Monkey King managed to pick up clamshells, and it was rare for other monkeys to find them. On the off chance they did, the clam meat would be offered to the Monkey King.
She hadn’t expected the little Monkey Brother to be so capable, not only managing to find a clamshell but also such a large and rare variety. The genetic legacy was truly formidable. It seemed that Monkey Brother truly had the potential to be a Monkey King, and might even surpass his predecessor, considering how young he still was.
After her laughter subsided, Yixiu patted Monkey Brother’s head and said, "Before your father was the Monkey King, he would lead your mother and the other Fierce Red Monkeys here to eat peaches and lotus roots, and they would also eat clam meat."
She took out the Purple Big Pearl and said, "This pearl was found by your father in the pool five years ago. I never imagined you would be as capable as he was."
Monkey Brother might have a slight memory of his mother, but when it came to his father, he was clueless. He ignored Qian Yixiu, still savoring the delicious taste of the clam meat. Seeing his longing for it, she decided to bring him more river clams to eat in the future.
Qian Yixiu had Monkey Brother climb the tree to break off a few peach twigs, while she herself admired the four pearls over and over again. Not only were these pearls extraordinarily dazzling in their natural colors, but they also faintly revealed patterns of golden lotuses within.
For example, if the clam that produced the purple pearls was the Empress Dowager of the Great Qian Kingdom, then the clam that produced these tri-colored pearls would be Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen. One was supremely noble, the other incomparably bewitching.
She shivered at her own comparison. Those women were like clouds in the sky, and she was but grass on the ground, only fit to look up to them.
If these pearls appeared on the market, they would certainly cause a great commotion and it would be difficult not to draw attention to her household. If her possession of these women’s items were unfortunately publicized, it would be the end for her.
The items were too valuable and alas, her household could not protect them. Wanting money was one thing, but one needed to be alive to spend it.
It seemed she could not take these pearls with her. In the future, if an opportunity to sell them arose, she would come back for them. If not, she would let them stay in this Fairyland, enjoying the wind and the dew, living freely and happily.
Having made this decision, Yixiu silently commended herself. One must know what to keep and what to relinquish. What was hers she would keep; what she could not keep, she would let go of.
