Chapter 165: Chapter 137 Cave Sky Pool_3

The White Wolf eyed the little squirrels with a yearning to eat them, but alas, could not climb trees and could only bark and howl at them. To its surprise, the naive little squirrels were not the least bit afraid of it.

However, as soon as Monkey Brother arrived, the little squirrels became scared and scurried away in panic, squealing. Monkey Brother also wanted to catch them for a snack, but Qian Yixiu persuaded him, "There’s plenty of food here for you, so let’s not chase after them. In all of Shixi Mountain, only this place has some squirrels and birds; perhaps they are spirit creatures placed here by immortals, and we should cherish them."

So Monkey Brother dropped the idea.

Seeing that the monkey was no longer after them, the little squirrels returned and climbed up the trees to watch the commotion.

Once her nerves completely relaxed, a wave of fatigue rushed over her like a tide. Qian Yixiu mustered her strength to walk into the Peach Grove and took out two small cotton jackets from her bag—one to lay on the ground and the other to wear—and sat down leaning against a tree, falling asleep in an instant.

She was awakened by the sound of birds chirping. As she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a sea of peach blossoms. A little squirrel with round, curious eyes was sitting on her leg, and she thought she was dreaming of being in an Immortal Realm.

Only after seeing Monkey Brother asleep against another tree, and White Wolf sleeping nearby, did she remember she had come to the Imaginary land - Dongtian Pool.

She picked up the little squirrel and said with a smile, "Good morning, little squirrel."

The little squirrels here were even cuter than those outside the valley, with long bushy tails, their grey fur tinged with a touch of golden yellow.

The little squirrel seemed to sense that she meant no harm and let her hold it, still staring blankly at her. Qian Yixiu chuckled and tapped its little pink nose with her finger. The little squirrel twitched its nose and relaxed even more, docilely lying in her embrace.

Qian Yixiu then placed the little squirrel on her lap and took out a small pouch from her bosom, filled with gifts she had received from the Zhang family. She remembered that a lady from the provincial capital had given her a unique little necklace—a red cord with a jade pendant smaller than a fingertip, shaped like a little squirrel.

She found the necklace, put it around the little squirrel’s neck, looping it twice and tying it securely. "We are fated to meet, this is my gift to you," she said.

She then stood up, holding the little squirrel, and walked out of the Peach Grove to the edge of Dongtian Pool.

It was most likely early morning, and half of the sun peeked above the mountaintop. The dawn sky was ablaze, coloring the eastern Stone Mountain in a rosy hue. On a cliff of that mountain grew a plant that looked like the Serpent Vine Chrysanthemum, guarded by a White Snake. However, the flowers were not blooming yet. By the time, which was every five years, it wouldn’t bloom for another two years.

Even if the flowers were in bloom, it would be of no use now, as she couldn’t reach them and Monkey Brother was still too small. After waiting another two years, Monkey Brother would have grown, and then she could find a way to pick the two Serpent Vine Chrysanthemums.

She shifted her gaze, put the squirrel down on the ground, and took out a cloth bag and a pouch from her backpack.

Scattered around Dongtian Pool were some lotus seeds discarded by the Fierce Red Monkeys, who would come here to eat the lotus root every autumn. This lotus differed from the ones she had seen before, not white nor light red, but yellow.

Although she hadn’t tasted it herself, she watched the Fierce Red Monkeys eat them with such relish.

The Fierce Red Monkeys loved to eat the peaches here, as well as the lotus roots. They braved the high mountains and long distances to come here twice a year, which attested to the flavorsomeness of these fruits. It was a shame that spirits had no sense of smell; she could only see how beautiful and juicy the peaches were, and how golden and crisp the lotus roots looked, without any idea of their taste.

She knelt and began picking lotus seeds, selecting the older ones that had turned black in color. Occasionally, she even found some Pearls, none as big as the Big Pearl she found yesterday, but all of fine appearance. Some were white, some pale pink, some pale yellow, varying in size. She put the lotus seeds in the cloth bag and the Pearls in the pouch.

Just as she was picking with gusto, she saw Monkey Brother emerge from the Peach Grove. She was about to ask it to help her pick, ideally more Pearls, but Monkey Brother passed her with a vexed expression and leaped into the water.

She searched here and there, after scouring the area around Dongtian Pool, she had gathered nearly half a bag of lotus seeds and a pouch full of Pearls.

She packed the items with satisfaction into her backpack and began eating. White Wolf seemed to have finished its breakfast and was sat looking skyward, bored.

In all this time at Dongtian Pool, aside from gaining courage, White Wolf appeared to have had little other use.

Qian Yixiu called to White Wolf as she headed to the other side of the creek, where several tea trees grew. Beneath them lay many small, black tea seeds, and she picked up nearly half a bagful from the ground.

Only then did she stand up to pick tea leaves. It was early March, the perfect time for picking the spring tea.
