Chapter 75: The Strength of the First Year.

Chapter 75: The Strength of the First Year.

His movements were completely erratic, unpredictable and violent—not human at all.

In the middle of the chaos stood Jin, his body surrounded by dusts. His clothes were singed, and his fists glowed, ready to strike. Beside him stood Elysia, calm yet fierce. She held sword, one in each hand, her stance firm like a flowing river ready to flood.

Despite the danger, Elysia’s eyes were sharp. She dodged an assassin’s spinning attack and slashed in a quick, precise arc. Her blade sliced cleanly through the assassin’s arm, sending it flying through the air.

The assassin didn’t even scream. He just laughed—high and broken—as if he felt nothing.

"Get back!" Elysia shouted, turning her head toward the students who had gathered nearby. Her voice was filled with urgency and warning. "This guy... he is not normal!"

She wasn’t exaggerating. An assassin’s weren’t acting like trained killers anymore. He looked like he had lost his minds. Whatever they had taken or been given—it had turned them into monsters.

Jin stepped forward, though he is a swordsman, he didn’t use swords to protect the remaining students on the ground. "Stay behind us," he growled, his eyes never leaving the mad assassins. "We’ll hold them off!"

And the battle raged on.

Edwin’s eyes widened. "He... the assassins from last time or is it a new assassin?!"

Riku, breathing heavily, lowered his sword. "What the hell is going on...?"

For a moment, all thoughts of their fight vanished.

The two young swordsmen looked at each other, then at the breach.

The battle wasn’t over—but it had just changed.

(So the sound was not from the skill from Riku)

"Let’s settle this later," Edwin said, his voice serious.

Riku blinked, still trying to process what he was seeing. "Ahh? Oh yeah... Right."

But his voice was distracted. His chest rose and fell quickly as he took in the sight of Elysia and Jin fighting the monstrous assassins. Sweat trickled down the side of his face from shock.

His sword lowered slowly.

(So... these are the people I’ve been underestimating?)

He clenched his teeth as he watched Jin leap forward, striking the assassin so hard that the ground cracked beneath the impact. Elysia, precise and graceful, flowed between strikes like a river made of steel, slicing through the air and parrying a flurry of mad slashes.

Riku swallowed hard. They’re on another level. That girl—Elysia... And him too—Jin. I thought I was catching up, but... I’m nowhere near that.

He tried to take a step forward but winced. His leg buckled slightly under his weight. His body was already near its limit from his fight with Edwin—cuts on his arms, bruises across his chest, and aching bones.

All he could do now... was watch.

"I’m too injured," he muttered bitterly to himself. "Ugh... useless..."

He gripped his sword tightly, frustration welling up in his chest.

(I’ll train harder) he said silently.

The students were too stunned to move—some had witnessed rampage for the first time.

Edwin now entered the ground.

"You have come, Edwin.", Elysia said.

"Edwin?.. Hell yeah ...", Jin Halden.

Through the thick smoke and chaos, they stood out clearly.

At the center was Edwin. His uniform was ripped, but he stood tall. Beside him was Elysia, breathing hard. Blood ran down her arm, her grip on her sword tight.

On the left side was Jin breathing heavily.

And then there was the assassin. He crouched low like a beast, snarling, his body radiating dark, boiling energy.

Suddenly, he sprang forward like a missile.

"Get back!" Jin shouted from the side.

Jin leapt into the way—not to fight, but to shield the others. He used his body like a wall, pushing students away from the danger.

"Move! Head to the dorms, now!" he yelled.

Some students hesitated, stunned by fear. But Jin’s sharp eyes told them he wasn’t asking—he was commanding.

"I said go!"

That finally made them run. Some bolted immediately. Others stumbled or looked back in fear.

But eventually, they all escaped.

Now, only Edwin and Elysia were left on the battlefield.

The assassin growled and charged again.

Edwin stepped in, raising his sword. The impact of his blade meeting the assassin’s weapon rang out with a sharp, screeching sound.

"I’ll hold him!" Edwin shouted. fre/ew.ebnovel.c om

But Elysia stepped beside him, her tone steady despite her wounds. "No... We’ll finish this. Together."

The assassin rushed them again, moving unpredictably—like a rabid animal. His attacks were fast and wild.

Elysia ducked under one slash, then slid her sword upward, cutting across his ribs. Black, oily blood splattered from the wound, staining her cheek. But he didn’t even flinch.

Edwin reacted next, delivering a powerful kick to the assassin’s chest, knocking him backward across the field.

"Switch!" Elysia called.

They moved with perfect coordination—like they had trained together for years. One defended while the other attacked. Then they switched again. Over and over. The rhythm of their fight was like a dance under pressure.

But no matter how many times they struck, the assassin wouldn’t fall.

From behind a pillar at the edge of the battlefield, Riku watched in silence. His eyes were wide with fear.

He had seen the assassin first. He had understood the danger first.

But now... he couldn’t move.

"Why can’t I move...?" he whispered.

He clenched his fists. Fear wrapped around him like iron chains. It made him hate himself.

Back on the field, Edwin narrowly dodged another attack. Elysia stepped in and drove her sword deep into the assassin’s thigh. The beast screamed in pain and dropped to one knee.

"Now!" Edwin shouted.

Elysia’s eyes began to glow. She summoned the last of her strength. With a cry, she leapt into the air, sword reversed in her grip. Edwin followed close behind.

SHIINNNGG!

Their blades slashed down in an X shape—cutting through the assassin’s chest in one final, perfect strike.

The assassin gasped. His body trembled. The red light in his eyes slowly faded away.

And then... he fell.

Silence.

For a few seconds, no one moved.

Edwin dropped to one knee, coughing hard. Elysia leaned on her sword, breathing heavily. Her whole body shook.

"...We did it," she whispered.

Footsteps echoed in the distance—Jin had returned. His face was covered in sweat.

"The students are safe. Are you two—?"

"We handled it," Edwin replied, though he winced from the pain.

Elysia looked up at the sky. "What was he...?"

Jin’s face turned grim. "That wasn’t a normal assassin. That thing was something... unnatural."

They had faced death and survived.

But behind the pillar, Riku stood frozen, still haunted by his own inaction.

"What... Did I just witness?" he muttered.

Then suddenly there was a daughter...
