Chapter 144: Chapter 144 The Transformation No One Expected
"AAARGH!"
My heart thudded so hard against my rib cage, that I feared it was going to explode. My eyes blurred as pain shot through my spine, as if my skin and bones were being torn apart with a hot searing knife.
I gasped as my hands clenched against the ground. Damon dropped beside me. "Ember... What is it? Isn’t the transformation over?" He asked, worry lacing his voice.
He soothed my back, but it only felt like everything was getting worse. This pain was not the same as when my wolf had awakened.
My body trembled, my breath turned ragged. I wanted to cry for help, but all I could do was scream or whimper.
The pain began to spread across my body, and beads of sweat covered my skin.
Damon turned to elder Dominic. "She needs help with her transformation... help her."
Elder Dominic glanced at me with a pitiful gaze. "I’ll see what I can do," he muttered under his breath.
The guests murmured among themselves. "This is the most interesting Alpha gathering so far." One of the Alphas said, his voice dripping with mockery.
"Is this a joke? Like which mate transforms when the mate pull is there? She can’t even control herself, so weak." Another commented.
"Alpha Damon has changed. He had been reduced to nothing but a joke." One of the Lunas tilted her glass, sipping leisurely as if she had not made any remark.
Growls rumbled through the air, as the pack members of the bloodshade pack snarled aggressively at the guests.
"How dare you make such a remark about our Alpha?" One of the guards growled, his fangs and claws elongating.
An Alpha with a broad frame stepped forward. His eyes turned to a sharp shade of gold. "How dare a mere Beta speak to an Alpha like that?"
His aura flooded the room, forcing many to bow in submission, but the Bloodshade pack held their ground, refusing to lower their heads.
His aura intensified, making many whimper. The Bloodshade pack felt their legs trembling but they refused to give in.
"We can never submit to you, we only submit to our Alpha." Alaric’s voice echoed through the hall, sending shivers down the hall. Theo walked beside him as they made their way through the crowd.
My hands trembled violently under my weight.
"Ember, listen to my voice. Let my voice guard you... Breathe, inhale deeply, and exhale. Try to relax." Elder Dominic squatted to my level.
His words flew past me without sinking in. My fingers scratched against the polished wooden floor, leaving a trail of blood.
Damon’s jaw clenched. His eyes flicked to the commotion that was growing wildly.
He turned to Elder Dominic. "Do you know why she is acting like this?"
Elder Dominic shook his head. "I don’t know Alpha, even her transformation is not like that of the normal werewolves."
"That is because she is not just a werewolf. She is an abomination." Alpha Allison’s voice rang from behind us.
"Lies," I growled, my eyes unknowingly turning into shades of violet with specks of gold. It burned as if they were on fire.
Damon and Elder Dominic exchanged a look I couldn’t understand.
Allison walked closer to us. Suddenly, Damon pulled me into his arms. "Close your eyes," he whispered in my ear.
My eyes obeyed him before my mind could process what he said. ’Why... did... h... he asked me to close my eyes.’
I unconsciously snuggled deeper into his embrace, whimpering and biting his arms. His scent was calming to my turmoil.
A loud crash echoed through the hall. Damon snapped his head towards the commotion. A ferocious growl rumbled from his chest.
"Elder Dominic, look after my mate. If a strand of her hair goes missing... start running for your life." His cold eyes softened when they returned to me. "I’ll be back before you know it."
"Don’t go." I whimpered as I clung to him.
"I’ll be back before you count one to a hundred. Do that for me, Ember." He caressed my hair, before unclenching my hands around him.
A cry escaped my lips. Now, I could hear my spine breaking and rearranging, spikes like thousands of nails pierced my skin, as if something was forcing its way out.
Damon’s aura flooded the hall, forcing most of the Alphas and Lunas to their knees. "Who laid a hand on my son?" His eyes were silvery grey, his claws and fangs slowly elongating.
He glanced at Theo, his eyes burned with fury. The crash earlier was Theo colliding with the tables.
"I did." The alpha with the broad body frame stood face to face with Damon.
"Apologize," Damon demanded, his voice low and calm.
"Never!" The alpha growled, his fangs and claws elongated. "You should have taught him manners."
Damon clenched his teeth, pushing back Beowulf. As if he were waiting for a perfect time to react. His eyes swirled with mischief.
The alpha continued. "That is what happens when a child grows without his mother..."
Gasps. The guests’ eyes widened, stunned and completely speechless, as they watched the alpha head flying in the air.
The alpha’s body stood for a second longer as blood sprayed from his severed neck, his headless body fell to his knees, before it fell flat on the floor.
"Alpha Damon!" one of the Alphas’ voices thundered in anger.
"IT IS THE LYCAN KING. KING OF ALL ALPHAS!" His voice sent shivers down every living creature in the room. His silvery grey eyes turned pitch black.
The room turned silent, as fear seeped into every heart.
"YOU CAN’T COME TO MY TERRITORY AND TELL ME WHAT TO DO." his voice lowered in a dangerous tone.
"Alpha Da... Alpha King forgive us, and calm down." the alpha who had yelled, stumbled back. His knees were trembling slightly.
"Oh no." Elder Dominic’s eyes widened in horror.
Just as the chaos unfolded, something began to unfurl from my back.
"ARRRGH!"
My scream made all eyes turn to me.
And this time, it wasn’t just gasps of shock, but growls and snarls reverberated through the air. All the werewolves looked at me with malice and hatred... as if they wanted to shred me into pieces.
Damon’s eyes met mine... disappointment... surprise... and hatred burned in his gaze.
Whatever had just unfolded... wasn’t a good thing, I guess.
