Chapter 143: Chapter 143 Hidden Truth

The words sank deep into the silence. Gasps echoed through the crowd.

"Impossible."

"I can’t believe he left Alpha Allison for her."

"But she is his real mate, he can’t ignore her."

"But what about the alliance he was about to get from mating with Alpha Allison?"

"You left me... for her?" Allison’s voice cracked, trembling with disbelief and fury.

Damon turned to Allison. "She is my mate."

A loud murmur spread through the crowd like wildfire.

Elder Dominic rushed to where we were. "Alpha Damon... think twice about this." His brows furrowed with concern, they lingered on Damon before moving to me.

"Elder Dominic, she is my mate... do you want me to go against our very nature?" Damon snapped at him.

"But we can’t afford to have a fallout with the Crescent Moon Pack," Dominic argued, his voice low but firm. "You promised them an alliance through Alpha Allison. Breaking that now... could mean war."

Damon’s grip on my waist tightened. "I’ll have a negotiation with them," he said coldly.

Gasps rang out again. Even Dominic took a step back, stunned.

"You’d risk the lives of your people over a girl you barely..."

"She is not just a girl." Damon’s voice dropped to a deadly whisper. "She. Is. My. Mate."

His words sent a strange heat through my chest, but it didn’t erase the unease curling in my stomach. All eyes were still on me. I could feel the weight of their judging gaze.

"But she is just an Omega... A breeder. Reject her Alpha Damon, and I’ll give you a second chance to right this wrong." Allison’s voice echoed through the crowd.

Her eyes darkened as they landed on me.

Fear gripped my heart at the thought of Damon rejecting me.

Damon put me down, making me stand beside him. "The moon goddess has blessed me with a mate and you hope I’ll reject her? Will you reject your mate?"

At his question murmurs and whispers filled the air.

"Enough," Damon snapped, his aura flaring out like a storm. Everyone in the hall whimpered and bared their neck in submission. "She will be my mate! My Luna!... your Luna!" His voice thundered through the air, instilling fear in them.

Silence stretched through the air, as the tension grew palpable.

His hands held mine, then he pulled me closer to him. "Come with me." His tone softened as he eyed me hungrily.

My stomach churned from anxiety and anticipation. "We are going to mate." My wolf howled in my head.

’Something feels off about all this. Damon... Damon is too much of a psychopath to accept me as his mate, especially when he hasn’t gotten over his past mate. But why was he willing to accept me?’

"There is no time to doubt Ember, he is ours. Of course, he will want us." My wolf said in my head.

We turned around to enter the secluded room. "Stop!" A yell made us stop in our tracks. I turned around and it was none other than Allison.

She stepped forward, her voice shaking with suppressed emotions. "Do you even know what she is?"

Damon’s head turned slowly. "What do you mean?"

’What does she mean by that? There is nowhere she knows about my secrets, right?’

Allison’s lips twisted into a bitter smile. "You think that’s just a bond pulling you in? What if it’s something else? What if it is just manipulation?"

My body froze, my heart pounding in my chest. ’Where is this bitch driving at?’

Damon’s brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"

"She’s not one of us, Alpha Damon," she said slowly. "She’s hiding her true identity from us. Why don’t you ask her why she hasn’t turned into her full wolf yet?"

The hall exploded into chatters and murmurs.

"It’s the mate pull," Damon said through gritted teeth, tightening his grip on my hand.

My blood ran cold. Is she bluffing? Because there is no way she knows about my identity, because even I don’t know what exactly I am. Except that I’m a werewolf and can open portals... not intentionally.

Allison scoffed. "Why don’t you ask her yourself, I bet she has an idea about what she really is."

Damon turned to me, his eyes searching mine for what seemed like an eternity. "Is there anything you are hiding from me?"

I nodded my head.

The tension in the air grew so thick that a knife could slice through it.

"Tell me what you are hiding?" His jaws tightened, and displeasure flickered across his eyes.

"I... I’m... l’m burning for your touch." I blurted out. "My body is aching for you, I want you to take me now and bury your fangs in my neck. I want you to growl as we ride in ecstasy." I fluttered my eyes innocently at him, earning a guttural growl of approval from him.

A smirk formed on his lips. He turned to the crowd. "I hope you all heard that... you are welcome to stay and enjoy the party... or you can use the door."

’That was close.’

Before we could take another step, Allison’s voice rang through the hall again. "Alpha Damon, she is lying to you. She has bewitched you! She wants to ruin our alliance." Her voice cracked with desperation and anger.

Damon ignored her and led me inside the space behind the curtains.

"She has magic!"

Our steps halted. My heart slammed into my chest, and every beat sent fear curling through my mind. ’How did she know? How did she know?!’ My mind wandered back to the night I caught her with a witch.

She clawed my back when she found I was spying on her, but the second attack of hers never came. ’Could it be that something strange happened that night?’

Damon’s eyes grew colder. "Insolent! I’ll have your head if you dare blaspheme my mate." He growled ferociously. His eyes turned to the shade of silvery grey.

"It is the truth, Damon, she lied to you. We all know how magic is prohibited in our land. Not only did she hide her identity, but she tried to manipulate you into marking her. The mate bond is not real, it is magic." A smile formed on her lips, seeing that she had gained everyone’s attention.

Damon’s grip on me didn’t loosen, but I could feel the way his body tensed. His eyes narrowed, flicking between me and Allison, like he was trying to make sense of everything.

I opened my mouth to speak, to tell him it wasn’t true. But before I could say a word, a sharp sensation shot down my spine.

A searing pain shot across my back. My gaze blurred, and I gasped, stumbling against Damon.

Then the second wave hit stronger, like something inside me had snapped loose.

My knees buckled. A blood-chilling scream tore out of my throat before I could stop it.
