Chapter 21: A Single Pull Moves the Whole Body

At the capital’s top hospital, Ye Bai, discharged that morning, was rushed back to the emergency room.

When he arrived, blood oozed from his body, making him look like a bloody gourd and terrifying the new nurses who dared not approach.

The emergency department head, assisted by top physicians and nurses, worked all afternoon to stop the bleeding. However, his wounds had worsened significantly, extending his recovery time indefinitely.

It wasn’t until the early hours of the next day that the unconscious Ye Bai finally awoke in his hospital bed.

Beside him, his secretary, brought back from abroad, waited anxiously.

“I’ll make Lu Ziyan pay!” Ye Bai’s cold eyes glinted with menace. If not for the stroke of luck that Steven, returning from abroad, found him, he might’ve died on that roadside.

“Steven, suppress the Lu family at all costs.”

“Boss, if we invest heavily to suppress them now, the losses could be massive,” Steven frowned. China’s network of relationships was a tightly woven iron net.

Their original plan was to integrate their capital into this network, build influence, and take down rivals one by one—their forte.

But with Xia Shihan’s cooperation failing and suppression starting early, the cost would be enormous.

“More importantly, even if we go all out, we can’t destroy the Lu family. It’ll only weaken us,” Steven added. This was the headache with Chinese clans—they could scheme and compete internally, but united against an outsider, they were unstoppable.

Ye Bai’s overseas assets rivaled the mightiest of the four major clans, the Ye family, and included vast black-market operations. Yet, crushing the Lu family remained a pipe dream.

If the ten minor clans allied, Ye Bai would lose for sure.

“I know!” Ye Bai clenched his fist. No one understood the terror of China’s relational web better than him.

“Then don’t rush to destroy the Lu family. Use money to win over the other nine clans, apply targeted pressure on the Lu family—I must secure the male lead role from Lu Ziyan!” Ye Bai’s eyes flickered with determination.

As long as the Lu family wasn’t facing existential ruin, the other clans would gladly join in the pressure.

Though he yearned to annihilate them, he had to hold back.

No matter—if he couldn’t destroy them, he’d torment Lu Ziyan. She refused him the lead role? He’d force his way in!

He’d make her realize his will couldn’t be defied!

“Also, get me all the data on Lin Ziyu.”

Within minutes, a few thin A4 sheets detailed Lin Ziyu’s life—birth, kindergarten, school, university, and her studies abroad, all condensed.

“She’s returning soon?” The latest entry noted Lin Ziyu’s imminent return, her ticket already booked within days.

“Closely monitor Lin Ziyu’s movements. Inform me when she’s back,” Ye Bai recalled the humiliation he faced in front of Lin Tai.

It infuriated him.

Every time Lin Tai was involved, things never went as planned. He knew it wasn’t Lin Tai’s doing—he was a complete waste. But it was infuriating. He’d make Lin Tai pay!

The entry point was Lin Tai’s sister, Lin Ziyu. Instinct told him that leveraging her could eventually bring the Lin family under his control.

Once Lin Tai was left with nothing, he doubted these women would still side with him!

“Why is her birth listed as unknown?” Ye Bai noticed a question mark in Lin Ziyu’s birth records.

“Boss, our investigation found discrepancies in her birth data. It seems deliberately concealed,” Steven explained.

“Good. Keep digging. I have a hunch her origins could be a big help!” Ye Bai narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.

“By the way, how’s Xia Shihan doing lately?” Ultimately, Ye Bai couldn’t let go of this trump card.

“Boss, Miss Xia Shihan has been expanding into foreign markets and is already making waves abroad,” Steven’s expression grew serious.

“Her acuity is terrifying. In just days, it’s as if she’s divinely guided—maximizing profits with zero missteps, raking in a fortune.”

Steven was genuinely impressed. Xia Shihan’s performance was uncanny, slicing into markets with flawless precision, like she knew the future.

“That’s why I targeted her,” Ye Bai tried to smile but winced in pain. “To surprise even you, the fiercest wolf on Wall Street, I’m eager to see how far she’ll go.”

“She’s ambitious and capable. I must have her. Contact her—I want a meeting as a group director.” Ye Bai believed Xia Shihan couldn’t refuse this time.

His capital would stun her!

“Also, recall the Reaper Squad. Hecate can’t be trusted anymore.” Ye Bai realized that without the Lu family mole’s tip yesterday, he’d have been clueless about Lin Tai’s visit.

Hecate’s betrayal loomed larger—he no longer trusted her.

“The entire Reaper Squad?” Steven gasped. The Reaper Squad was the elite of Ye Bai’s world-second-ranked assassin organization.

Highly coordinated, their reputation abroad was fearsome—those targeted were doomed.

Unlike Hecate, a solo act, the Reaper Squad was a team even she couldn’t rival. When Ye Bai formed it, he’d intended it as a check on Hecate.

Now, that foresight paid off.

“Yes.” Ye Bai nodded. Since returning to China, he’d found his reliable allies too few.

Recalling them wasn’t just about Hecate.
