Chapter 99: Interaction with a new civilization

The 3rd floor of the Tower of Cessation was pretty much the same as what the players had experienced in the Tower of Beginning.

There were various cities on the floor, large cities that could fit in numerous players in the tower along with the Natives that lived there.

Throughout the vast floor, there were 30 cities divided by forests and various natural biomes. The cities seemed to be medieval with their tall walls and simple wooden houses.

The language that the people spoke here was not the same as what they spoke in their world, but there was a special magic cast within the cities that allowed the players to communicate with the natives.

The magic was cast by the high mages of the [Mages’ Tower] who once descended down here to analyze the strange phenomena that take place every ten years– the same phenomenon that was the premise of this floor for the players.

[Ding!]

[You have entered the 3rd floor of the Tower of Cessation.]

[A quest has been presented.]

============

[The Monster Waves of the Red Moon.]

– Every ten years, all the monsters on the floor are enhanced by the Red Moon, resulting in monster waves that attack the cities.

– The monster waves happen on a specific night for a specific period, forcing the cities to defend against the countless monsters on their own.

– The cities of the floor have defended against the monsters for a long time until now, however, they have noticed an abnormal increase in the number of monsters this year.

– Help the citizens fend off against the monster waves and protect your assigned cities.

[Time left until monster waves begin: 140 Days, 12:44:31.]

[Assigned city: City 12.]

============

The floor quest was the same for every player this time as well, but all the players were divided into various cities throughout the 3rd floor.

The players were required to help the city guards protect the city or contribute to the survival of the city in whatever way they could.

For the combat players, it was obvious that they needed to fight the monsters that would appear on the day of the Red Moon while for the players that weren’t combat-specific, throughout the city, there were various contribution quests that they could take on.

The city structure was almost the same for all thirty cities throughout the floor.

All the cities had tall walls made of sturdy stones around them, which were further enchanted by magic.

The walls of the cities were equipped with magical weapons like torrents and catapults that could throw magical ammunition.

The houses of the city may look weak since they were made of wood and stone, but they were sturdy with a solid foundation.

Because of all the previous damages sustained by the cities, they had prepared various countermeasures to fight against these monster waves.

They had capable people to pull their weights in the cities, and they weren’t NPCs. They were natives who were just as human as the rest of the players... the only difference between them and the players was their primary homes.

"Agh!"

"Is this how you’re going to protect our city?! You outsiders are all weak!"

The players who appeared out of the blue one day were nothing new for the citizens of this place.

The natives of the tower were aware of the existence of the tower as well as the Outsiders who didn’t primarily reside within the tower.

For them, the players were foreign beings who appeared in the tower every once in a while. Their legends spoke of the ones who came from the outside and climbed the tower...

For the players, the tower was an entity that was invading their lands, but the natives’ perception of the tower was different.

They were only aware of the tower as it was and that’s how it had been for a long time.

They were aware that there were various floors of this tower, that there were higher beings on the higher floors, and that there were different worlds besides those above them.

Many even knew they were on the 3rd floor of the tower, and that the specific beings lived on some specific floors.

The tower natives were still restricted to their floors for most parts, but that did not mean they could not climb the tower.

Everything and everyone within the tower could climb the tower. The tower gave everyone equal opportunity.

It all ultimately came down to willingness and skills to clear the floors.

Some cannot do many things on their own and many cannot do many things without the help of others.

The tower climbing was just as group-centric as it was individual-driven. Still, opportunities were given equally– unfair ways for those with obvious advantages– but that’s how it had been since the origin of the tower.

"You need training! We cannot use you even as a soldier!"

The tower’s 3rd floor was divided into many cities but each and every city was preparing for a war.

The various battle units of the cities were managed by a capable captain who was the strongest among them.

Usually, they were a high-level individual of around (Level-35). They were still incomparably stronger than the rest of the players thanks to their skills— not the skills that they had, but the ability to use their skills and weapons effectively.

"You don’t know how to swing a sword, you don’t know how to use Mana, you don’t even know how to channel your powers!

This is the worst batch of recruits I’ve ever received!"

The natives were different from the players. They had lived within the tower for almost their entire lives, mostly on the floors that they were natives to.

They had learned the techniques and the skills that the people of the tower knew. The outsiders who just got introduced to the system and the functions of the system and stats would not know anywhere close to them.

And that much was obvious.

That was the reason the 3rd floor was also called the [First Training Zone] among the players.

"Get your asses to the training ground! Now!"

"YES SIR!"

Every player that entered the city first had to take a test. They first tested how useful you were and only then gave you appropriate positions within the city.

This first battle also determines where you will stand within the city in terms of power and authority, so few people were able to pass the trial of the city guardians.

Those who didn’t pass were immediately sent to the training grounds for training and those who did pass were given the chance to learn directly from someone with experience.

That’s how things worked on this floor...

"Oh, looks like we’re next."

"Finally, haaa. I almost got sleepy."

The two of them knew it very well.
