Chapter 100: Different cities

City 12 was pretty much the same as the rest of the cities on this floor.

Tall walls barricaded the city, there were weapons of war on the city walls, there were strong individuals around the city walls, and guards all around the surroundings outside of the city as well.

The population of all the cities on average was 200,000-300,000 including the soldiers and guards who made up more than a fourth of the city’s population.

They lived with their families and the cities had more younger people than the older ones. Not all soldiers were perfect either. But even without their limbs or senses, even with all the difficulties, they dedicated their lives to protecting these cities.

"Hmm..."

The cities were their home and they would do anything to protect it from the monsters that attacked the cities on each red moon.

"You do not look like the rest of this useless trash. Hmmm..."

In the 12th city, the captain who guarded the city against the grand threats was a Swordsman, one famous even in the other cities.

"You possess Mana comparable to the true mages, yet it does not seem like you are a mage." With his deep green eyes almost shining under the sunlight from behind the half helmet that covered his head, he analyzed the dark-haired lady before him.

"You, on the other hand, with those relics made by the Great Sons of Flames, that Holy presence, and that serene purity, do not fit among those of the lower floor, much less those useless trash." Beside the Lady stood the young man who the guardian captain could not quite grasp the strengths of.

This person, KiRA, did not exude any powerful Aura like those who possessed Aura or Mana. The captain who had seen his fair share of things, was aware of the presence of Holy Power that he possessed.

As someone who possessed Aura and had been in the presence of the Holy Priests, he could faintly feel the presence of the Pure energy within him as well.

His wrist guards and the other items on him weren’t all that made him different from the others either.

"Greetings, Captain Lucas." KiRA greeted him in a way that the other players who were coming here for the first time should rarely know about.

Also, he did not use the distinct tone of the players that felt foreign to the natives.

He spoke in their language, in their dialect, in their accent... with eyes that gleamed with a light that made the captain feel as if the person before him already knew him somehow.

"Who are you, young man? It does not seem like you’re a threat to us... what is the meaning of your presence here?" The captain could not understand what KiRA was doing here with those weapons and powers.

He did not know if KiRA was stronger than him or not, but he was no normal outsider. He was different from them, and the captain wanted to know why he was there.

"I’m merely a player, someone who wishes to learn from capable people like you, captain. There’s no great meaning to my presence here... I know a thing or two, I have had a few good opportunities, and all I wish for is the safety of this place," KiRA answered the captain with a smile.

He was also telling the truth, the captain could tell somehow.

There was just... something about this person that made him feel weird as if this person knew things that weren’t supposed to be known.

It was complicated. The captain was a little too confused right now.

"I see." He had no choice but to just accept this.

He waited a moment and wondered what to do with this one, as well as the one with him who didn’t look as special as him but was most certainly a unique one as well.

As a captain, he needed to know who was right for various positions in the city and the upcoming war.

He needed to prepare for anything unexpected. And with these two anomalies, he couldn’t quite come to a proper conclusion.

"Liam, show them the way. Tell the operation unit to grant them open access to (Level-2)." The words confused the person standing before him.

(Level-2) access was the second highest access in the city right under the captain himself.

It was even higher than the prominent individuals in the city, and most certainly unlike any other player.

It was unfair, one may argue. But there was no one who would argue against the decision of their guardian captain.

"Just do it. And the news of this should not go out of this circle. Make sure of that, everyone." The captain warned the rest of them firmly, and they all understood it as well.

The fact that he was so serious about this meant that there was something to the two of them that they could not see.

"Does that mean we won’t get to fight? I was looking forward to some fighting, man..." Izzy wanted to fight and stretch out a little.

They were standing in a line until now. And since they were last in the line, they had been standing there for a while now.

There was no other player left around them, which was convenient for them but also boring.

"You can fight the ones in the sparring grounds. Teach them a thing or two if you want... go easy on them though." KiRA didn’t have such an itch.

He had predicted this outcome and was fine with it.

Even if he were more careful with his appearance, it wasn’t easy to keep things hidden from this particular individual.

’It’s quite surprising seeing him here though.’

This tower was different from what they had been familiar with, at least in some ways.

They were closely connected, but they were different.

But if this person was here and the quest was exactly the same as what he had known, then a prediction he had made about this place a long time ago was actually true.

’Seems like I’ll be staying here for a while.’

KiRA was happy to see this person but at the same time sad that he was right about something from the Tower of Beginning.

"I don’t know what you want to learn here, but I can hear you out. Before you go off into the city and cause trouble, let me tell you about the things you need to be careful about as well."

He was smart for his age. Instead of giving these to someone else, he chose to guide them himself.

"Follow me."

From the way Izzy was asking for a fight, it was obvious the two of them were not right in their head either. Leaving them alone might not be safe for the city.

In these times, it was best to handle them directly so he took them to an empty guard’s room discreetly.

At the same time, in a different part of the floor, in a different city, a certain young swordsman was blocked by a city guard.

"You. The captain’s calling for you."

He was in the training hall, an individual training hall that did not belong to him.

He had won this place after fighting against the vice-captain of the guards who was testing the outsiders who were appearing out of the blue recently.

The guard units in this city supported their vice-captain more than the highest person in power because the vice-captain came from a rich family.

It wasn’t a good thing, the vice-captain was arrogant even though he had the skills to be in that position.

When he faced an outsider who carried a unique sword with him, he thought the outsider would only have medicare skills even with his Aura.

The vice-captain was certain that an outsider would know nothing about sword, or Aura, or how to fight someone as skilled as him... but that was a wrong point of view.

The person he was looking down on was Ziggy, the captain of the first attack squad of the Association for Awakened Players and Public.

He was perhaps one of the few players who actually knew how to use the sword, arguably much better than any of them will ever get to.

Ziggy was humble with his skills and powers so he did not use much of them and simply defeated the vice-captain... but the arrogant vice-captain could not handle the loss and came at him, almost backstabbing him.

But Ziggy dodged the attack at just the right time... he was safe, but the furious vice captain ended up hurting one of the normal guards in his rage.

The vice-captain wasn’t apologetic after hurting his own subordinate, which enraged Ziggy.

"I’ll be on my way."

Ziggy asked the vice-captain for a duel with everything they had on the line.

In the cities on this floor, a duel was considered to be sacred so there was a lot of importance placed on each and every one of these duels.

One learned from the other or fought for something they believed to be right. It was rare to see someone fighting with something physical on the line.

But putting everything one hand on the line was the same as accepting the possibility of death– something extreme, but something exciting for everyone else.

"Haaa..."

They fought, and Ziggy did not hold back, so the results were obvious.

He now had quite a lot of things in this city, and thanks to the duel... he was now going to meet the person who was the most difficult to meet on this entire floor, even among all the guardian captains and hidden Natives.

Sadly though, even if he wanted to, he could not help feeling anxious.

Meeting with one of his first teachers wasn’t a simple thing.

He was still figuring out how he was going to face her...
