Chapter 50: Ch 50: Claiming the Death Dragon’s Heart

Ye Tian stepped outside the inn and paused for a moment, letting the cool night air wash over him.

The moon hung high in the sky, casting a pale silver glow over the land.

As he took in the serene beauty of the night, his mind was already weighing his options.

Two choices lay before him.

To the north stood the towering gates of the kingdom, where countless opportunities for information, resources, and perhaps some chaos awaited.

To the south stretched the dense, shadowy expanse of the forest, its treetops swaying gently under the light breeze.

After a brief moment of thought, he chuckled softly.

"Why not both?" he muttered to himself.

But before delving into the chaos of the kingdom, there was something he wanted to test... a thought that lingered in the back of his mind, sparking curiosity.

With a shrug, he turned and began walking toward the forest, the faint rustle of leaves beckoning him like a siren’s call.

The forest was vast and silent, the kind of silence that almost felt alive.

The trees, with their thick, ancient trunks and sprawling roots, seemed to form natural barriers, their dense canopy blocking out most of the moonlight.

Only faint silver streaks pierced through the gaps, painting the ground in patches of ethereal light.

Ye Tian walked without hesitation, his steps guided more by instinct than any clear direction.

The occasional hoot of an owl or the rustling of a small creature in the underbrush broke the otherwise eerie silence, but he paid it no mind.

After what felt like an hour of walking, he stumbled upon a small stream of water.

The gentle trickle of the stream echoed softly, and the moonlight illuminated its clear, glistening surface as it flowed down from a nearby mountain range.

He knelt by the stream, letting the cold, crisp water run through his fingers.

Taking a sip, he exhaled deeply and stood up, his gaze drifting over the tranquil scene before him.

"Alright, time to get serious..." he said, his voice cutting through the stillness.

"Inventory."

The black screen materialized before him, its familiar void-like surface pulsating faintly as white text appeared.

---

[Inventory:-]

[Death Dragon’s Heart (1/1)]

[Dragon’s Blood (1/1)]

---

He tilted his head, examining the items listed.

"Any information on those?"

In response, the white screen appeared, its luminous surface casting a soft glow around him.

---

[Death Dragon’s Heart: A massive organ brimming with concentrated death mana. Contains the last will and essence of the dragon. Has unknown effects on the host.]

[Dragon’s Blood: The lifeblood of a powerful dragon. Contains properties capable of transforming the host into a half-dragon kin. Has unknown effects on the host.]

---

Ye Tian tapped his chin thoughtfully as he read through the descriptions.

"So, both are incredibly overpowered... but also risky as hell."

He glanced back at the stream, his reflection shimmering faintly on the water’s surface.

"Alright..." he said with a smirk.

"Give me the Death Dragon’s Heart."

The black screen flickered briefly before displaying its response...

---

[Understood.]

---

A dark, pulsating object materialized in front of him, hovering a few feet above the ground.

The Death Dragon’s Heart.

It was enormous, easily the size of a human torso, and it radiated a sinister aura.

Its surface was pitch black, veins of dark crimson running through it like molten lava.

The heart beat faintly, its pulsations sending ripples of death mana into the surrounding air.

The very ground beneath it seemed to darken, as if the heart were draining the life from its surroundings.

Ye Tian stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as he studied the floating organ.

"So, this thing holds almost infinite death mana, huh?" he muttered.

"Not bad. Not bad at all."

He clenched his fists, his mind racing with possibilities.

Without access to qi, prana, or even basic aura due to the limitations of his current body, his options for power sources were limited.

Regular mana wasn’t an appealing choice... its volatile nature and tendency to halve the strength of personal skills made it practically useless to him.

That left him with one path... Death Mana.

And right now, he had something in front of him that could grant him exactly that... if he could take control of it.

"Guess it’s time to see what this thing’s got..." he said, stepping closer.

He could have used the dragon’s blood instead, transforming himself into a half-dragon kin, but that path carried too many risks.

The most significant drawback? The unspoken rule that bound all dragon kin... no dragon kin could harm another.

If his target turned out to be a dragon or related to dragons, he’d be powerless against them.

So, the heart it was.

The black screen flickered to life again, displaying new text...

---

[A class change quest has appeared...]

[Objective: Take control over the Death Dragon’s Heart.]

[Time Limit: ?]

[Rewards: A temporary class, ’Necromancer,’ will be assigned to Player Ye Tian.]

[Failure: Death.]

---

Ye Tian raised an eyebrow.

"Hah? That’s it? And I get to be a Necromancer if I succeed?"

He couldn’t help but laugh, the sound echoing through the empty forest.

"Not bad at all. No need to recruit people, no need to worry about betrayal. Minions that don’t have free will? This is the perfect example of convenience!"

His smirk widened, and his crimson eyes gleamed as he reached out, placing his hand on the heart’s surface.

The moment his fingers touched it, a wave of cold energy surged through his body.

The heart began to glow faintly, its pulsations growing stronger, as if it were resisting his presence.

The black screen appeared again, displaying a warning...

---

[The heart contains the last will of the Death Dragon. Only a soul stronger than the dragon’s can claim it.]

---

"Well, that makes things interesting..." Ye Tian muttered, his smirk unshaken.

The heart’s aura surged, lashing out like a storm of shadows.

It seemed to resist his touch, a faint growl echoing in his mind as the dragon’s will tried to overwhelm him.

But then, Ye Tian’s own soul pressure flared.

It wasn’t just powerful... it was suffocating.

The oppressive force of his soul radiated outward, shattering the death mana storm as if it were nothing more than a fragile illusion.

The dragon’s will quivered for a moment before completely dissipating, as if realizing it stood no chance against the monster it had dared to challenge.

Ye Tian clicked his tongue in irritation, glaring at the now-silent heart.

"You didn’t even put up a proper fight, you coward! At least make it interesting!"

The black screen flickered.

---

[Quest Completed!]

---

The white screen followed immediately after.

---

[Assigning temporary class, ’Necromancer,’ to Player Ye Tian...]
