Chapter 44: Ch 44: Death’s Fury

Blergh!

The sound of violent retching echoed through the dense forest, disturbing the eerie silence of the Black Forest.

Birds scattered, their cries quickly drowned by the oppressive atmosphere that had suddenly descended.

"I told you, didn’t I?"

A voice thundered through the air... deep, authoritative, and bone-chilling.

It was the kind of voice that didn’t just reach the ears... it pierced through the soul.

A shadow loomed over the forest, blotting out the light of the sun.

Slowly, an enormous figure emerged from the shattered earth, its presence suffocating the surroundings with sheer force.

Cerulean eyes, glowing faintly with a dark hue, locked onto the battered form lying helplessly below.

Slitted pupils, cold and calculating, gleamed with hatred as the massive creature towered above.

It was a dragon.

Not just any dragon, but a harbinger of destruction... a Death Dragon.

Its enormous, scaly body shimmered faintly, almost ethereal.

Wickedly curved horns jutted from its head, and enormous wings stretched out behind it like the harbinger of an apocalypse.

The ground beneath its claws cracked and groaned under the immense weight of its presence.

The air itself seemed to bow under the pressure of its mana as it glared downward.

The dragon’s maw opened, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth.

"I told you..." it snarled, its voice carrying a venomous edge...

"I despise the existence of Eviars. Their very blood reeks of arrogance and betrayal."

The dragon leaned closer, its breath like a gale force as it stared into the crater it had just created with its presence alone.

"And you..." it hissed, its mana surging wildly...

"You, who carry the last vestiges of that cursed bloodline... Michael’s bloodline... shall die here and now."

In the crater, the battered figure of Ye Tian lay crumpled.

Blood seeped from multiple wounds, staining the dirt beneath him.

One of his eyes was swollen shut, and blood trickled from his mouth as he gasped desperately for air.

His body trembled, struggling even to move.

Yet, even in that broken state, a small, defiant smile tugged at his lips.

"This..." Ye Tian thought to himself, the corners of his vision darkening...

"...is more exhilarating than I thought."

{One Hour Earlier...}

Ye Tian stood amidst the forest, his lips curling into a grin as he looked at the glowing system panel hovering before him.

"Michael, you sneaky bastard..." he muttered under his breath.

"Even in your last moments, you’ve outdone yourself."

---

[Would you like to awaken the Karma System?]

---

A single option floated in the air, waiting for his response.

"Of course!" he exclaimed without hesitation, reaching out.

---

[Activating Player Ye Tian’s exclusive Karma System...]

[Error.]

[A sudden quest has arrived.]

---

"Huh? What?" His smile faltered as a new screen popped up, lines of text filling the space in front of him.

---

[Objective: Defeat the Death Dragon (0/1)]

[Information: The Death Dragon sealed within the Black Forest has harbored an unrelenting hatred for Michael Eviar for over a thousand years. With Michael’s death, the seal has weakened, and the dragon has sensed your presence. Driven by its grudge, it will unleash all its fury upon you.]

[Conditions: Use only techniques native to this world.]

[Reward: Activation of Karma System.]

[Failure: Death.]

---

Ye Tian blinked, his mind racing.

"The Death Dragon? That’s part of Michael’s lore... Wait, what the hell?! Using techniques of this world? What do you want me to do... throw rocks at it?"

Before he could process the implications of the quest, the forest around him began to tremble violently.

The nearby lake started to bubble, the water churning as if something massive stirred beneath its surface.

Ye Tian’s breath hitched as a low rumble echoed across the forest.

"...Oh, no. I’m fucked."

The rumble grew louder, the very air vibrating with raw energy.

Symbols began to materialize in the sky above the lake... ancient, glowing symbols that merged into an enormous magic circle.

"Don’t tell me..." Ye Tian whispered, his voice barely audible.

The magic circle began to crack, fissures spreading across its surface before shattering into a million fragments.

"EVIAR!"

A deafening roar erupted from the ground as it exploded outward, dirt and debris flying in all directions.

Ye Tian stumbled backward, shielding his face as the force of the blast nearly knocked him off his feet.

And then he saw it.

The Death Dragon emerged from the chaos, its massive form casting a shadow over the entire forest.

Its eyes burned with an intense hatred, and its mana surged outward in waves, suffocating everything within its vicinity.

"And... The fucker appears!" Ye Tian cursed, his heart pounding as the dragon’s gaze locked onto him.

For the next hour, it was a game of survival.

Ye Tian darted through the forest, dodging the dragon’s relentless attacks.

Each roar sent shockwaves through the air, shattering trees and splitting the ground.

"This is insane!" he shouted, narrowly avoiding a massive claw that carved a deep trench into the earth.

"What kind of bastard dragon is this?!"

But no matter how fast he ran, the dragon was faster.

Its massive wings beat against the air, sending gusts of wind that threatened to knock him off his feet.

And then, the dragon began chanting.

Ye Tian froze as he recognized the signs.

Symbols began forming in the air again, this time surrounding the dragon as it prepared a spell.

"Oh shit..!" Ye Tian shouted.

"That’s... Rank 8 magic?!"

The ground beneath him began to crack and shift, glowing faintly with ominous light.

"Earth’s Calamity..."

The ground erupted, massive spikes of earth shooting upward and converging on Ye Tian from all directions.

He tried to dodge, but there was no escape. The sheer scale of the magic left no room for error.

The last thing he remembered was the intense pain as he was flung into the air and slammed into the ground, the world spinning around him.

***

{Present Time}

Ye Tian lay broken and bloodied, struggling to catch his breath.

The Death Dragon loomed above, its mana flaring as it prepared to deliver the final blow.

"I guess... this is it..." Ye Tian muttered, a weak chuckle escaping his lips.

Yet, deep down, a flicker of determination still burned.

His body might have been broken, but his spirit was far from crushed.

"Come on, Karma System..." he whispered.

"You better be worth all of this..."

The Death Dragon roared, raising a claw to finish him off.

The ground trembled as its mana surged for the killing blow.

But even as the world seemed to end, Ye Tian smiled.

"Know this... fucker... You made me do this..."
