Chapter 651: Chapter 532: One Night, Three Shootings, Five Lives Lost

"Beep beep! Beep beep beep—"

The bar entrance was bustling with people and cars, traffic jams were inevitable, and the sounds of horns blared intermittently, deafeningly loud.

"Bang!"

A gunshot fired, muffled by the blaring horns.

In the alley behind the bar, barely walking ten meters after a transaction, a man with blonde hair felt as if someone had violently pushed him from behind, stumbling face first to the ground, money scattered all around him.

Blood quickly spread from the gunshot wound on his back, soaking through his clothing. He was still alive, twitching on the ground, taking labored breaths, struggling to get up, but each time his hands touched the ground, he fell back down with a thud.

Despite this, the instinct to survive propelled him painfully to crawl towards the entrance of the alley.

Even if his speed was as slow as a snail.

Behind the blonde, a handgun held by trembling hands emitted a faint wisp of white smoke, the young man’s face pale, breathing heavily, his teeth chattering.

This was his first time buying a gun, his first time committing a crime, his first time shooting someone.

Excitement, nerves, thrill, confusion...

The only emotion absent was fear.

The ordinary, honest life of the past twenty years shattered with that gunshot.

"Whoosh— whoosh— gulp~"

Struggling to swallow and moisten his dry throat, the young man nervously held the gun, slowly approaching the blonde and stopping a mere step away.

"Help... help me... help me..."

The blonde raised his hand, his face pleading, knowing that it was his assailant, although unaware of the reason, he could only beg for help, like a drowning man clutching at straws.

"Sorry, never killed anyone before, using you to practice," muttered the young man, then knelt down, hurriedly picking up the money he had just handed to the blonde, ignoring his pleas for help and hurriedly departing.

The shot was both to strengthen his resolve and to steel his nerves.

Watching the young man’s fading figure, the blonde felt his eyelids growing heavier, and finally, as his head drooped with his raised hand, he died.

Initially, the young man had instinctively headed toward the alley’s exit but suddenly returned to the bar’s back door, then left through the front door with a tense and excited heart.

The blonde’s body was discovered by a couple who fell in love at first sight in the bar and had gone to the back alley to discuss the structure of the "kun" character, only to find the tragically deceased blonde, promptly calling the police.

The police from the local precinct arrived first at the scene, confirming it was a shooting, then informed the Central District Police Station; hurriedly, officers in charge of firearms rushed to take over the case.

"The shooter fired from behind, the bullet hit the heart from the back, the victim died quickly."

"There’s no surveillance in the alley, but there’s one at the convenience store at the entrance of the alley, we’ll take it back and check to see if it caught who came and went tonight."

"Hey! Chief, haven’t the shooting incidents increased these past few days? We’ve responded to two just this week."

"Yeah, it seems so, alright, let’s focus on work now."

While the police began their investigation, the young man who had just shot the blonde hailed a cab to a single-family house in White Stone District Kawakita Nishijou 1-chome.

Seeing the lights on inside through the window, he didn’t rush to go in but stood outside for a smoke instead.

After finishing, he snuffed out the cigarette butt, threw it away, patted the gun in his pocket, sniffed, then stepped forward to knock on the door.

"Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock!"

"Mosi Mosi?" a questioning voice came from inside.

"It’s me, Auntie," the young man said in a deep voice.

"Bang!" The door was abruptly yanked open, a middle-aged woman bursting out, glaring at the young man and launching into a tirade, "What are you doing here again? Haven’t I already told you? You and Shunzi cannot be together! Our Shunzi is a top student, she’s going to marry a doctor, a lawyer, or a businessman, not some fish-slicing chef from a dingy restaurant!"

"I want to see Shunzi..." said the young man.

"Idiot! What’s there to see!" a burly, broad-faced middle-aged man with bristly stubble pulled the woman away, stood with a stiff neck and threatened the young man, "Let me tell you, Mitsuo Mutou, if you keep bothering my Shunzi, I won’t be nice to you!"

"I want to see Shunzi," Mitsuo repeated.

"Fine, today you’ll give up for good." The middle-aged woman’s expression was harsh and bitter, she turned and yelled into the house, "Shunzi, come here and tell him yourself."

After a while, a young woman about Mitsuo’s age came out. She avoided eye contact with Mitsuo, lips pursed, clearly uneasy.

"Shunzi, speak," urged the middle-aged man.

Shunzi gathered her courage, looked up at Mitsuo and spoke, "We are already broken up, please stop pursuing me, Mr. Mitsuo, it makes me very distressed, I hope you can consider my feelings."

With that, she even bowed deeply.

"Then please return the money I’ve spent on you over the years," Mitsuo said coldly.

After enduring unspeakable pain, he had accepted the break-up with Shunzi, and now he only wished to reclaim the money he had spent on her over the years.

Since he had always treated Shunzi as his future wife, he had never been stingy with money, even paying her tuition.

But since they were breaking up, she had to return his money.

And this was also his chance to give Shunzi.
