Chapter 635: Chapter 520: To Be the Sun of Japan, Meet with Nakai Feiniao

"Mr. Ishitani, please speak."

Aoyama Xiu Xin gestured with his hand for him to speak freely.

"It’s like this," Ishida Koyun quickly organized his thoughts and said, "Our line of work can’t avoid the intricacies of human relationships. Anyone can ask a favor through a friend to reach us, and here I am, having been asked for a favor through a friend, which I’m now relaying to Mr. Aoyama. Such are the ways of the world!"

He shook his head with a sigh, then formally stated his purpose. "Mr. Aoyama might not be familiar with Nakai Feiniao, but he has served two terms as a Sapporo City councilman. Last night, his only son, Nakai Yitzhak, was arrested by your Criminal Department for suspected smuggling of contraband. Could Mr. Aoyama do us a favor?"

Whoa, it really was about Nakai Feiniao’s son that brought him here. It seems Mikuriya Shouta’s speculation was considerably accurate. Ishida Koyun’s heart is cruel and his conscious, dark.

"As for this matter..." Aoyama crossed one arm in front of his chest and rubbed his chin with his other hand, pacing in a circle with a thoughtful expression. After a moment, he clicked his tongue and said, "It’s only right that I help since it’s the first time you’ve asked, Mr. Ishitani, but currently, I still don’t know the specifics. Could you give me a bit more time?"

After saying this, he paused and gave an awkward smile, adding, "Releasing him is simple, but it needs to be done clearly. We can’t just release him and then have a bigger issue break out right after — that would be my responsibility."

"Of course, of course," Ishida Koyun nodded in understanding, truly appreciating Aoyama Xiu Xin’s cautiousness. If it were him, he would have done the same. He stood up and bowed deeply, "I’ll leave this matter in Mr. Aoyama’s hands."

His skin was pale, with a square face and a fairly tall stature, giving a very reliable impression. He appeared the very model of decency in any TV drama.

"Mr. Ishitani is too polite. Just treat me to a drink once this is settled," Aoyama Xiu Xin replied with a bow.

"Absolutely, absolutely. When the time comes, Mr. Aoyama can pick the place, and we won’t return until we’re drunk," Ishida Koyun said as he checked his wristwatch and took his leave. "I still have work, so I won’t keep you from yours, Mr. Aoyama."

"Take care, I will get the information and respond to you as soon as possible," Aoyama Xiu Xin said as he saw him out.

Ishida Koyun nodded and, stepping out, looked back to say "no need to see me out" before confidently walking away.

Aoyama Xiu Xin stood at the entrance of the office, watching him enter the elevator, his eyes narrowing slightly. He hadn’t expected it, truly had not — he thought only he was capable of such foul deeds, but there was Ishida Koyun, with his thick eyebrows and big eyes, also capable of such malice.

Mikuriya Shouta, who had been hiding in the stairwell, sneakily popped out to take a peek before approaching Aoyama Xiu Xin to ask, "Minister, what did he say?"

"It seems you were right," Aoyama Xiu Xin murmured to himself, taking a deep breath before replying, "He came about Nakai Feiniao’s son’s arrest, layered with the pretext of helping a friend’s friend. If I hadn’t recently come to know his dirty history from over a decade ago, I would have fallen for his lies just now."

After speaking, he turned to look at Mikuriya Shouta, curious, and asked, "How about Nakai Feiniao’s son?"

"Useless. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have uncovered and dealt with him so quickly," Mikuriya Shouta assessed.

"What had he been smuggling?"

"Drugs, in huge quantities. Once the process reaches the courts, he could be locked away forever."

"No wonder Nakai Feiniao is so desperate to fish him out," Aoyama Xiu Xin remarked with a smile upon hearing this.

Mikuriya Shouta smiled in agreement, "He’s their only son; they can’t just watch him get a life sentence."

"Arrange for me to meet Nakai Feiniao tonight," Aoyama Xiu Xin instructed, twisting his neck.

By now, it was almost certain that Ishida Koyun had helped Nakai Feiniao destroy evidence and frame Sakurai Ze for murder nine years ago. Normally, Ishida Koyun and Nakai Feiniao should avoid each other intentionally to prevent others from discovering their relationship.

Yet, faced with his son’s arrest, Nakai Feiniao immediately turned to Ishida Koyun, which meant he truly had no one else to turn to. Aoyama Xiu Xin had pondered the sentiment that ’out of sight, out of mind,’ but he hadn’t expected it to be so profound.

And this sounded an alarm in his heart.

Power, once possessed, cannot be lost; he wanted to hold onto it tightly, even into old age, until his dying breath!

Mr. Aoyama had readied himself to dedicate his life to Japan, to serve the people.

Regretting the twenty years he had wasted before serving the nation and its people, he was determined to ensure his own son would serve the citizens from birth.

The Aoyama family was meant to shine upon Japan like the sun, serving the people for generations.

Nakai Feiniao quickly received the invitation call Mikuriya Shouta made on behalf of Aoyama Xiu Xin, and after agreeing, immediately called Ishida Koyun to inquire about the situation.

"Mr. Ishitani, are you available? It’s Nakai."

The moment the call connected, Ishida Koyun’s face, which had been smiling, turned dark with anger upon hearing the other’s identity, cursing, "Damn it, I’ve already spoken for you about your son, all you need to do is wait! Don’t contact me for nothing!"

The more accomplished and promising the person, the more they wanted to avoid any connection with Nakai Feiniao — wishing, if possible, for the man to just disappear.

On the other end, Nakai Feiniao, hearing Ishida Koyun’s blunt tone, felt a pang of desolation but no other significant reaction. After six or seven years, he was used to it and spoke calmly, "Aoyama Xiu Xin invited me to dinner tonight. Any advice?"

"I have just seen him; surely, he’s invited you to discuss your son’s matter. Maneuver freely on your own, and don’t call me again! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless!" Ishida Koyun said before hanging up the phone.

Dial tone followed as Nakai Feiniao stared blankly for a moment before slowly putting down the receiver, muttering to himself, "A tiger falls flat only to be mocked by dogs."

He could still vaguely remember, nine years ago, Ishida Koyun standing before him with a trembling and servile demeanor. Now, everything had changed.

....................

That evening, at a high-end izakaya in the central district.

The waiter escorted Aoyama Xiu Xin to a private room and helped him push open the door. Standing at the entrance, Aoyama Xiu Xin saw Nakai Feiniao inside, dressed in a kimono.

"Minister Aoyama, it’s an honor to meet you at last. I’ve long heard of your great reputation, and seeing you today, you truly possess extraordinary presence and exceptional demeanor," Nakai Feiniao didn’t put on airs of being the elder or more senior, and quickly rose to his feet with a smile to greet him.

Looking at the smiling Nakai Feiniao, whose temples were flecked with white, Aoyama Xiu Xin was once again struck by the wondrous nature of power. He stepped into the room and laughed, "Mr. Nakai is too kind. I’m just an ordinary person. It’s all thanks to everyone’s generous praise that I’ve acquired some undeserved fame."

"You underestimate yourself, Minister Aoyama. If you are an ordinary person, then who in this world could be called a promising young talent?" Nakai Feiniao laughed heartily, gestured towards the cushions, and said, "Minister Aoyama, please take a seat."

Aoyama Xiu Xin nodded and sat down, but he didn’t sit formally on his knees. Instead, he casually crossed his legs and sat on the cushion, "Mr. Nakai doesn’t mind, does he?"

"Not at all, not at all. Minister Aoyama, please make yourself comfortable in whatever way you like," Nakai Feiniao said with a laugh as he shook his head and then clapped his hands, "The food can be served now."

"Understood!" came the waiter’s reply from behind the door.

Nakai Feiniao took the initiative to lean forward and pour tea for Aoyama Xiu Xin, "Minister Aoyama, please have some tea to moisten your throat."

"Thank you," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a slight smile.

The food and drinks were served promptly and in order. Nakai Feiniao didn’t rush to bring up his son’s affairs, instead enjoying the food and drink with Aoyama Xiu Xin and talking about the local customs and culture of Hokkaido.

After all, when asking for a favor, it’s only proper to ensure the guest is well-fed.

Once the meal was finished and Aoyama Xiu Xin began wiping his mouth, Nakai Feiniao said cheerfully, "I hope tonight’s meal was to Minister Aoyama’s satisfaction?"

"Not bad," Aoyama Xiu Xin replied truthfully, tossing aside his napkin, taking a sip of tea as a mouth rinse, and then spitting it into a cup he picked up, saying, "I asked Mr. Nakai to dinner today to discuss your son’s situation."

Getting straight to the point, without beating around the bush.

"My son has caused a lot of trouble; by rights, he should face severe legal punishment. But, as he is my only son, I can’t just leave him be. I hope Minister Aoyama can understand a father’s plight and take the trouble to help. There will certainly be a hefty reward once the matter is settled!" Nakai Feiniao hurriedly took up the conversation.

"No need for a hefty reward," Aoyama Xiu Xin shook his head, his expression calm, "Let’s first talk about the possible punishment your son could face—an indefinite sentence."

At those words, Nakai Feiniao’s old face turned pale, and he was overcome with agitation, wanting to stand up as he said, "Minister Aoyama..."

"Sit," Aoyama Xiu Xin raised his hand in a pressing down gesture, signaling him to be patient, and then continued, "Your son has only been arrested for now and hasn’t entered the legal process. I can lift a finger, and he will be released without charges. You, on the other hand, only need to do one thing."

"Please tell me what it is. As long as it’s within my power, I will do my utmost!" Nakai Feiniao quickly declared his position.

"It’s definitely within your power," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a slight smile, revealing his true intentions, "I would like to know whether back in the day you bribed Sakurai Ze to help you destroy the video, or if it was Ishida Koyun you bribed."

"This..." Nakai Feiniao never imagined Aoyama Xiu Xin would ask this and was immediately taken aback.

"Don’t think about lying to me. Ishida Koyun came to me because of your son’s case, and I already have the answer in mind. I just want to confirm it and learn a bit more about the details," Aoyama Xiu Xin said indifferently.

All at once, Nakai Feiniao realized something, "Did you arrest my son to get at Ishida Koyun?"

Aoyama Xiu Xin nodded, "Yes, so do you want your son to pay the price for Ishida Koyun?"

"You want to use this past incident against Ishida Koyun, so you need my testimony, but this will also lead to me being held accountable," Nakai Feiniao’s complexion looked terrible.

Aoyama Xiu Xin remained composed and nodded again, "Correct. So, are you willing to pay for your past mistakes for your son’s sake?"

"Slap!" Nakai Feiniao, frustrated and angry, slammed his hand down on the table, stood up, and glared fiercely at Aoyama, "If you want to target Ishida Koyun, just go directly after him. Why do you have to drag me into this?"

Mortal caught in a fray between immortals; that sense of powerlessness is suffocating when one finds oneself a mere mortal.

"Mr. Nakai, since when do I need your permission to involve you?" Aoyama Xiu Xin’s eyes displayed mockery.

Nakai Feiniao, furious, his face red with rage, breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling tumultuously. But soon, he slowly slid back and plopped down onto the cushion again.

"Thump, thump, thump." Aoyama Xiu Xin lifted his finger and tapped on the table, speaking slowly, "Exchanging your freedom and your son’s freedom is worth it. How many years do you have left to live? And how many does he have?"

Though harsh, the point was valid.

A father’s soft spot will always be his child.

Nakai Feiniao remained silent for a long while without speaking.

"Such touching fatherly love," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a shrug, half-mocking, half-serious, as he got up and prepared to leave.

"Wait!" Nakai Feiniao’s voice was hoarse as he stopped him and said with gravity, "I agree."

Aoyama Xiu Xin paused, turned, and looked at him again, repeating earnestly, "Such touching fatherly love."

With that said, he sat back down.

Nakai Feiniao took a deep breath, his gaze steady as he looked at Aoyama Xiu Xin, "Let’s start from the death of my wife. Do you know why I killed her?"

Since he had already decided to trade his freedom for his son’s, there was nothing left to hide; it was natural for him to confess all his crimes.

"Heh, this I really don’t know. What’s the story?" Aoyama Xiu Xin played along. f\ree webn ovel(.)com

With eyes closed, Nakai Feiniao began his tale.
