Chapter 384: Chapter 135: Danger Descending the Mountain_2

Yueyao chuckled lightly, she knew Hua Lei was watching her, speaking little, intentionally coaxing her to talk more. Although Yueyao rarely agreed aloud, she still listened attentively. The affairs of life that reached the outside world were mostly rooted in reality.

Yuehuan squinted, readying herself for sleep, when Hong Yi whispered, "Young Lady is too kind-hearted, that’s why the Third Young Lady keeps bullying her. This time when we return, you must speak with Madam about this."

Yuehuan’s heart turned cold; this Hong Yi truly could no longer stay. As for Hong Mei, she needed closer observation. Yuehuan couldn’t help but lament that none of those around her could be trusted, "Third Sister has been quite good to me, there is nothing to speak of."

Hong Yi indignantly said, "Young Lady, the Third Young Lady really bullies too much." She simply couldn’t stand the Third Young Lady. During their time on the mountain, she indulged in Bird’s Nest and other nourishing delicacies almost every three to five days, yet the Third Young Lady didn’t leave a single scrap for her own lady. Furthermore, she had the Young Lady stay in a room so cold it could kill. If it hadn’t been for Hong Mei brazenly begging, the Young Lady surely would have frozen. The Third Young Lady’s deeds weren’t worth mentioning.

Yuehuan replied icily, "I haven’t suffered any grievances; you should also avoid being like that Maid beside the eldest sister, chattering non-stop once you return to the mansion, stirring up trouble out of nothing. If you really cause an issue, don’t blame me for being harsh with you." Although she said she didn’t get along with Yueyao on the surface, she was determined not to be used as a puppet.

Hong Yi truly felt her lady had changed drastically; in the past, half of what she suggested might have been taken to heart, but now it was as if not a single word could get through. That fall seemed to have completely altered her temperament.

Yuehuan was thinking that once they returned, she must find a way to send Hong Yi away. However, it required careful planning; whoever filled that vacancy must be someone she could trust implicitly. Lost in thought, she suddenly heard a shrill scream from outside.

Yueyao too was pondering in the carriage when unexpectedly, it jolted. Then she heard the coachman cry out. Following the coachman’s shout, the carriage jerked violently once more, and Yueyao promptly grasped the board to steady herself.

Yueyao was shaken so violently that it felt as though her insides were about to spill out; she sensed immediate danger. Clutching the wooden board desperately for balance, she then peered through the carriage curtain to see the carriage recklessly charging down the mountain slope.

They were descending, and instead of slowing down, the carriage was speeding up the slope. Yueyao knew this was truly bad; an accident was imminent.

Then the coachman also yelled loudly, "Young Lady, the carriage is skidding, and this beast has gone mad. Young Lady, I can’t control it..." If it were just a skid, it might have been manageable, but combined with the horse’s frenzy, and especially on a steep slope, the situation was extremely dangerous.

Upon hearing this, Yueyao’s heart skipped a beat. If it were only skidding, the coachman might manage to control the horses, resulting in nothing more than a few jolts. But if they crashed down the slope, even if they survived, serious injuries would be certain.

Yueyao looked at the uncontrollable horse and without any more time to contemplate, pushed open the carriage door with utmost speed.

As the door opened, the biting mountain wind swept through like a blade, howling fiercely. As soon as Yueyao opened her mouth, the wind filled it.

Yueyao’s eyes fixed on an open space ahead, devoid of trees and relatively flat, then turned to the pale-faced Hua Lei and Qiao Lan, saying with difficulty, "When the time comes, follow my lead and jump down."

After speaking, Yueyao hugged her head and curled her body into a ball, rolling toward that flat ground. As she tumbled, she felt as if all her bones were disjointed, and could no longer cry out in pain.

Hua Lei and Qiao Lan saw Yueyao roll out of the carriage like a ball. Qiao Lan reacted faster than Hua Lei, urging the stunned Hua Lei, "Hurry and jump, it’s too late if we wait."

Hua Lei had been frozen in fear, not fully comprehending Yueyao’s words. Now upon hearing Qiao Lan’s exhortation, she leaped valiantly from the carriage.

The coachman could no longer control the carriage and, knowing Yueyao had jumped out, he too leaped from the vehicle. Just after his jump, the horse, along with the carriage, rushed into the forest.

A sharp neigh erupted as the carriage was flung aside, breaking in two upon impact. The violent collision threw Qiao Lan out of the carriage.

All this happened with such speed that those following behind were petrified with fear. Yuehuan reacted swiftly, shouting, "Quick, go save them!"

Fortunately for Yueyao, due to her choice of landing spot, the area was all soil and void of large rocks. Also, because she had curled up and was wearing thick clothes when jumping, other than feeling shaken all over, she had no apparent injuries.
