Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Am I That Scary?
"You ungrateful girl!" Madam Wang trembled with anger because of her words.
She flung off Qi Anran’s hands from her arm, stepped forward and pointed at Qi Yu and scolded, "The Prime Minister Residence has raised you for so many years, and you don’t even appreciate it, yet you say such things. Today, even if it means tearing apart this old face of mine, I must teach you, this unfilial daughter, a lesson!"
Madam Wang deliberately made a scene, and soon enough, a crowd gathered in front of the Suiyu Pavilion to see what the commotion was about.
Everyone pointed and murmured about Qi Yu inside.
Seeing this, Madam Wang felt she had regained some face, and she stood a bit straighter.
Qi Yu, listening to her distort the facts, almost laughed out of anger.
With a cold laugh, she retorted, "How dare you mention the ’favors of upbringing’? From childhood to adulthood, what kindness have I received from you and your daughter? Should I thank you for drugging me, or should I thank you, this venomous woman, for causing my mother’s death?"
Since Madam Wang was shameless, she no longer held anything back.
Upon hearing her words, both Madam Wang and Qi Anran turned deathly pale.
Both drugging her and planning the death of Gu Min had been done in utmost secrecy, how could she know?
Qi Yu swept a cold glance over them and continued, "A few days ago, I brought my mother’s memorial tablet back to the residence. That night, she came to me in a dream and told me all that you had done."
Years had passed since the incident, and the people who knew the truth had long been secretly killed by Madam Wang.
Had it not been for the residual memories left in her mind by the original owner, both the original owner and her innocent, tragically deceased mother could never have had their grievances redressed.
Madam Wang’s figure trembled, and her eyes betrayed a hint of panic.
She had not been afraid when she killed, but in broad daylight, listening to Qi Yu coldly speak of this matter buried for over a decade, it felt as if someone had doused her head with cold water, chilling her from head to toe.
"You... you stop slandering people!" Madam Wang, seeing Qi Yu’s face that resembled Gu Min by fifty percent, stepped back in fear, "Don’t think I’ll believe your ghost-talking nonsense. If you are capable, bring out the evidence!"
Knowing that the people privy to the matter had all been executed by her, there was nothing Qi Yu could do to her, even if she had sky-high abilities.
Thinking this, Madam Wang felt more confident.
Qi Yu sneered lightly and did not entangle over this issue, "Quit the useless prattle, even if the Emperor himself were here today, you’d still have to compensate for this piece of Jade!"
She would eventually settle the old scores with their family, but today this particular debt could not be avoided.
Madam Wang did not expect her to still keep this matter at heart; naturally, she did not want to give the silver.
Moreover, she had just been tricked into giving away over a decade’s collection of treasures by Qi Yu, and now, not to mention ten thousand taels of gold, she would even have to think twice about a thousand taels of silver.
Qi Anran came to her senses and pointed at the broken pieces of Jade, disdainfully saying, "This piece of Jade isn’t worth that much money!"
Madam Wang also chimed in, "Exactly, it’s just a broken stone. Even compensating you with ten taels of silver would be too much!"
Qi Yu did not waste her words with them and directly declared her intention to report to the authorities, "Since you refuse to compensate, then don’t blame me for being ruthless."
Madam Wang was both anxious and angry.
If this were reported, wouldn’t the whole capital city come to know about it?
Qi Anran also refused.
She had not yet married into Prince An Residence and now faced a lawsuit; how could she show her face if this got out?
The two of them did everything they could to prevent Qi Yu from reporting to the authorities, staunchly blocking the doorway.
Seeing the two of them play the rogue, Qi Yu raised an eyebrow, "Blocking the doorway and preventing my business, can you afford to compensate for this loss?"
Fearing that she would make an outrageous demand, Madam Wang, albeit reluctantly, had to step aside.
Her eyes shifted, and she thought of an idea, smiling at Qi Yu, "Compensation is necessary, but ten thousand taels of gold is not a small amount. How about this, come back to the residence with us, and I’ll give you the silver."
Qi Anran immediately became anxious upon hearing this, "Mother, you can’t give her the silver!"
That was her dowry. If she really gave it away, she would have nothing left.
Mrs. Wang gave her a look and whispered in her ear, "Just lure her to the residence. After that, she won’t have a choice!"
Qi Anran nodded, her thoughts perfectly aligning with her mother’s.
Qi Yu watched the two whispering covertly and slightly curled her lips.
After so many times, they still hadn’t learned their lesson. They couldn’t blame her then.
Upon arriving at the Prime Minister Residence, Mrs. Wang invited Qi Yu to sit in the front hall, saying she needed to fetch the silver from the storeroom first.
Once inside, she summoned Dong Mei and instructed her to put sedatives in the tea, intending to knock Qi Yu out.
Dong Mei, recalling Xia Xing who was frozen in the lake for two hours last time, looked troubled and timidly said, "Madam, I... I dare not."
Mrs. Wang immediately slapped her and sternly said, "Do as you’re told. Spare me your nonsense!"
Qi Anran feigned a few words of persuasion on the side, but in reality, she coldly observed without stopping Mrs. Wang from disciplining Dong Mei.
Dong Mei covered her face, sobbing quietly, "Madam, I know I was wrong. I’ll do it right away!"
Mrs. Wang’s anger subsided a bit, and she handed over a packet of sedatives, admonishing, "Be careful, or I’ll flay you!"
Dong Mei bowed her head, took it, and hurriedly went to the kitchen to boil a pot of water.
After bringing the tea to the front hall, she carefully placed the teacup before Qi Yu, keeping her head down, not daring to look at her, and stumbled over her words, "Princess, please enjoy the tea."
Qi Yu glanced at the cup of tea still steaming and didn’t touch it, simply sweeping her eyes over it, "This princess is not thirsty. You drink this tea."
Dong Mei, already terrified, began to tremble even more at her words.
Qi Yu watched the timorous maid with amusement, "Am I that frightening?"
Just one sentence from her had frightened the maid as if she were something terrifying.
One would think she had seen the Ghost.
But at that moment, in Dong Mei’s eyes, Qi Yu was no different from a living Ghost.
That day, after Xia Xing was pulled out of the water, she developed a high fever that night and almost lost her mind.
When asked what happened, she said nothing, merely shook her head continuously, and kept muttering the words, "spare me."
Xia Xing’s condition made those who had previously harmed Qi Yu inexplicably fearful, and Dong Mei, who had always been by Qi Anran’s side helping her do misdeeds, had been even more restless in her sleep these days.
Dong Mei suddenly knelt down, kowtowed to Qi Yu, and pleaded, "This servant knows her mistake, Princess, please spare this servant!"
Qi Yu instinctively leaned back a bit; she wasn’t quite used to people kowtowing to her.
She cleared her throat and said softly, "Stand up and speak."
Where would Dong Mei dare to stand? She slightly lifted her head to gauge Qi Yu’s expression, her lips pursed, her face full of conflict.
However, Qi Yu reached out and lifted her face, her lips curling into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
"Come, tell this princess exactly what you put in this tea?"
