Chapter 935: Chapter 935: The Xue Clan and Lord Xiong
Regardless, Gu Fan decided to go out and investigate, so he and Mo Yun walked the main streets together, heading straight for the inn closest to the town gate.
According to Gu Fan’s description, it all boiled down to one question: after nightfall, had any Westerners checked in?
But after asking several inns in a row, some waiters shook their heads indicating they hadn’t seen any, while others admitted there had been Westerners staying, but only during the day; none had arrived at night.
After a whole day of tireless inquiry, they had almost questioned all the inns in the small town and found nothing— it seemed the second batch of vampires hadn’t come this way.
Mo Yun speculated that the second batch of vampires might have bypassed the town altogether and already gone towards the Central Plains?
Gu Fan shook his head, "On our way here, we didn’t hear about any missing persons, so..."
Mo Yun had a different view, like now, as they were traveling and just happened to cross a barren wilderness, what if they encountered vampires on the way and got attacked? Who would know about such disappearances?
Gu Fan still denied this hypothesis. It was feasible to bypass the town, but avoiding the daytime sun in the bare wilderness was difficult—caves weren’t available just anywhere.
Mo Yun thought so too. If one couldn’t find a place to shield from the sunlight before dawn, even the strongest vampire would turn to dust, and the best solution was to stay indoors.
"And it has to be a lightproof house," Gu Fan frowned, then turned to look around at the houses whose windows allowed sunlight to pass through.
Exhausted from a day’s efforts, Gu Fan and Mo Yun thought maybe they were just being overly cautious—perhaps the second batch of vampires had never been to this small town, so they might as well go back and rest.
However, Gu Fan and Mo Yun didn’t realize that every move they made was being watched by a pair of eyes. A middle-aged man with a sloppy beard followed carefully behind Gu Fan and Mo Yun, observing them until they reached their lodging.
The bearded man pretended to just pass by, not sparing a second glance before hurrying back to his place, where he rushed into a house to see a dignified, spirited old man sipping tea.
The bearded middle-aged man quickly reported, "Lord Xiong, it’s bad news. Someone has been inquiring about Westerners, and they’re specifically asking about those who entered this small town after dusk."
"What?" Lord Xiong furrowed his brows and retorted, "Did you get a good look at their faces?"
The bearded middle-aged man nodded, "I got a clear view. They are a man and a woman. I followed them and know their place of stay."
"Alright, I understand," Lord Xiong contemplated for a moment. If Gu Fan were there, he would be surprised to find that this man was someone he had seen the night before.
Lord Xiong suddenly recalled how he and a group of friends had just entered the small town the previous night, and then he witnessed a young man fighting with two other men, one fat and one thin. Lord Xiong thought perhaps the intruders were checking on these people, but he felt it was wrong as he hadn’t provoked them.
The bearded man expressed concern, "Lord Xiong, I don’t mean to distrust you, but are your friends a bit peculiar?"
Lord Xiong dismissed it confidently, "I am no ordinary man, and naturally, neither are my friends."
Hearing this, the bearded man nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, Lord Xiong’s capacities are beyond the common man."
"Alright, it’s about to get dark. Go outside and take cover. There are things you’re better off not seeing," Lord Xiong said indifferently, causing the bearded man to turn slightly pale and hastily take his leave.
As the sun set and darkness gradually fell, the basement inside the house was opened, and one after another, Western faces emerged from below. Each had an unfriendly demeanor, and some even had a murderous gleam in their eyes.
One of the Westerners said, "Buddy, now that it’s dark and I’m starving, I hope you can do us a kindness."
Lord Xiong smiled faintly, "Sure thing, as long as you don’t make trouble, all is well." After saying this, he cut his own wrist, and blood instantly flowed, which he seemed to ignore, letting it bleed freely.
The blood dripped into a large bowl. The sight of its crimson hue made the Westerners’ eyes water with greed. Their eyes turned completely black, and some even revealed their fangs, as if they couldn’t wait to pounce on Lord Xiong and bite down.
"There you go, take it and drink," Lord Xiong passed the bowl full of blood to the vampires, letting them share it among themselves.
The first to drink was the most prestigious among them, the Xue Wang. He took a sip then passed it on to others. Then, the Xue Wang sat across from Lord Xiong, looking quite interested, and added, "During this time, we have obeyed your words, drinking only your blood and not touching ordinary people, to avoid attracting attention. It’s just that your blood is not quite enough." After speaking, the Xue Wang glanced at the wound on Lord Xiong’s wrist, finding it had already healed.
Lord Xiong was nonchalant, "You wish to drink more of my blood to seek true eternal life, but I’m sorry, my eternal life is different from yours. Others who drink the Xue Clan’s blood will become vampires, but drinking my blood will have no effect."
The Xue Wang nodded, "It seems true eternal life is not so easily achieved."
Lord Xiong smiled smugly, with a touch of arrogance.
The Xue Wang continued, "We have told you everything the Xue Clan knows about the ancient Super Civilization, in the hope that you will fulfill your promise and lead us to the true eternal life, so that we can be free from the thirst for blood and stand under the sunlight."
Lord Xiong nodded, "Rest assured, I am here to assist you. Moreover, I hadn’t expected that the ancient Super Civilization had been working on researching eternal life in various places, each having some success, but only mine is the perfect immortality."
"Indeed, we can be killed by sunlight and wooden stakes, unlike you, who can’t be killed at all. You truly possess the eternal life that can last forever," commented the Xue Wang, his eyes revealing envy for the true eternal life that vampires long for, right before him.
Lord Xiong added, "Don’t be too pleased just yet. Even if you grasp how to attain true eternal life, whether it can be applied to you is uncertain since you are no longer ordinary humans."
Upon hearing this, the Xue Wang’s mood sank, his expression turning distinctly unpleasant, "What do you mean? If we can’t obtain eternal life, then don’t expect to get what you want either."
