Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 930: Becoming the Leader of the Martial Arts Alliance

Chapter 930: Chapter 930: Becoming the Leader of the Martial Arts Alliance

After a long and tiring journey by carriage, Gu Fan and Mo Yun arrived at a large city closest to the borderlands. There were many people coming and going, from the Central Plains, the borderlands, and even some Westerners. They were all here to do business, so seeing such a diverse crowd was no longer surprising.

To prevent Gu Fan from escaping, Mo Yun disguised herself as a man. Upon checking into the inn, they shared a room but had separate beds.

Of course, when Mo Yun slept, she covered herself thoroughly, not giving Gu Fan any chance to take advantage of her.

To this, Gu Fan expressed disdain, "You share a room with me but aren’t willing to give me any benefits, why then are we staying together?"

"Cut the nonsense and start practicing!" Under Mo Yun’s strict supervision, Gu Fan began to sit cross-legged and tried to circulate the Qi in his body.

During this time, whenever he had a moment, Gu Fan would practice his martial arts. The Qi inside him grew more and more abundant, and he learned how to circulate it. Each time his Qi completed a cycle through his body, Gu Fan felt refreshed and invigorated.

Mo Yun also admitted that Gu Fan’s progress was indeed fast and he seemed to have the makings of a good martial artist.

Gu Fan wasn’t the least bit embarrassed by Mo Yun’s praise; in fact, he felt that her encouragement was too late, which left Mo Yun frustrated by his thick-skinned nature.

Gu Fan thought that if his modest skills could be considered talent in martial arts, then Su Hui, having arrived in ancient times and practiced peerless martial arts, would be invincible.

"Thank goodness, I didn’t bring Sister Su along; otherwise, I would never have the chance to turn the tables on her." The thought of mastering peerless martial arts and bullying Su Hui in the future excited Gu Fan immensely.

Mo Yun didn’t care what Gu Fan was thinking. However, when she heard the news that the Stick King was calling for a Martial Arts Competition to elect a new Alliance Leader of the martial artists, she frowned and suddenly had an idea; if she could become the Alliance Leader...

Hearing about the election for the Alliance Leader, Gu Fan got excited and asked, "What do you think, beautiful master? Should we try our luck at the Martial Arts Competition? They say that there are not many competent masters in the martial arts world right now. With your skills, you might really become the Alliance Leader."

Mo Yun also felt that it was entirely possible, but she was more interested in discovering the intentions of the second batch of Western vampires. Understanding their purpose was more important to her than the position of Alliance Leader.

Mo Yun went to the window, pushed it open, and took a good look at the street below. Seeing a few Western faces, she became vigilant.

Gu Fan said, "Not all Westerners are vampires; don’t forget the characteristics of those vampires. They can’t move around during the day. If you want to find them, you’ll have to wait until evening."

His point was valid, so Mo Yun took Gu Fan’s advice. Suddenly, she looked at Gu Fan with suspicion, as if she were looking at something very strange, which puzzled Gu Fan. He asked, "Master, why are you staring at me like that?"

Mo Yun said, "It’s strange. You are just a second-rate master, yet the calm and fearlessness you display are completely out of sync with your abilities."

"What exactly are you talking about, beautiful master?" Gu Fan pretended as if he didn’t understand.

Mo Yun snorted coldly, "You clearly know why we are here, don’t you? You know just how terrifying those Western vampires can be, yet you still came, and you don’t seem to be afraid at all."

"Actually, I’m scared to death, but I had no choice but to follow my beautiful master Su Hui, otherwise I would have been in danger right there and then," Gu Fan said with a dry laugh, as if he really had no other choice.

However, Mo Yun sized up Gu Fan with narrowed eyes, always feeling that there was more to Gu Fan than met the eye, and added, "You also seem quite keen on seeking out those Western vampires. Could it be that you saw something in your notes that made you decide to take such a risk and follow me?"

"Not at all, beautiful master, don’t jump to conclusions. I’ve told you everything I can, and I really am sincere about joining the Devil Cult and becoming your disciple," Gu Fan said earnestly, as if it were really the case.

Being so shrewd, Mo Yun obviously wouldn’t trust Gu Fan so easily. She remained skeptical but did not voice it outright, instead shifting the topic, "Since you are loyal to our Devil Cult, I’ll give you a mission."

Gu Fan immediately affirmed his commitment, "Sure, for the sake of the Devil Cult, for the sake of my beautiful master, I will brave any danger, without hesitation."

"That is what you said," Mo Yun grinned at Gu Fan, with an I’ve-got-you-figured-out look that threw Gu Fan into a bit of a panic, as he felt he may have agreed too quickly and fallen into a trap dug by Mo Yun.

Mo Yun continued, "Since the Stick King is convening the Martial Arts Competition to choose a new leader of Martial Arts, why don’t you represent the Devil Cult and claim the throne?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Fan was shocked, "No way, I’m at best a third-rate master right now. If you ask me to vie for the leadership throne, I’ll be beaten up by those experts. I can’t, I’m powerless here, I won’t go."

Mo Yun comforted him, "Don’t worry, there aren’t many peerless experts out there, and most of the other experts perished in the last battle. This Martial Arts Competition is basically a rabble, probably the worst in history."

Gu Fan chuckled, "That’s a relief, but the truth is, I’m even worse off."

"You need to have confidence in yourself, as your master, I believe in you," Mo Yun encouraged Gu Fan, but he just couldn’t muster enthusiasm for the idea of being Martial Arts leader, and Mo Yun got angry, "How did I end up with such a lackluster disciple like you? I won’t teach you, I won’t!"

"Really? So capricious." Gu Fan had a headache, feeling as if his master was acting like a spoiled child who needed to be coaxed.

In the end, Gu Fan grudgingly agreed to participate in the Martial Arts Competition three months later, but on the condition that he at least reach the level of a second-rate master by then. Otherwise, going there and being swiftly defeated would disgrace the Devil Cult.

Mo Yun agreed, believing strongly that Gu Fan could improve further. She promised to do her utmost to help Gu Fan increase his strength in the upcoming period and hoped he wouldn’t slack off and disappoint her.

Strange and bewildering, I came to the ancient times searching for Lin Xi, and now here I am, competing for the leadership of Martial Arts. What’s happening? Gu Fan felt quite perplexed.

Suddenly, Gu Fan thought of something: since Lin Xi was now with a Martial Arts expert known as Jian Shen, perhaps they would also attend the Martial Arts Competition. Maybe he would run into them there.

Thinking this, Gu Fan was invigorated, eager for the Martial Arts Competition to commence.
