Chapter 910: I Am Your Second Grandpa
Chapter 910: Chapter 910: I Am Your Second Grandpa
Upon hearing Gu Fan call for the second granduncle, Helen appeared somewhat excited, while the old man kept silent. However, he finally let out a gratified smile, "I knew you were a smart kid. I guessed you had figured out my identity long ago."
Gu Fan also let out a sigh, "I’ve known about your existence, second granduncle, for a long time. After Helen moved in, various signs indicated that there was someone very familiar with our family’s old house backing Helen. When Helen mentioned her Chinese name was Gu Wei, I associated it with you, second granduncle. However, because Helen has a Western face, I couldn’t be certain that she was your granddaughter until I saw you, and then everything became clear."
The old man nodded, "If my brother knew his grandson had grown up to this point, he would surely be comforted. I’m happy for him on his behalf."
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan wore a look of skepticism, "But from what you just said, second granduncle, it seemed you had quite an opinion about my grandfather."
"Nonsense, the two of us brothers were very close; a youngster like you shouldn’t speak nonsense." The old man reproached, leaving Gu Fan speechless. That was quite a change of heart.
The old man cleared his throat, "Of course, we are all from the Gu family. Everything we do is for the Gu family, without distinction. Your grandfather once said, I have a share in the old house too. So, according to the agreement..."
"I get it, I get it. What grandfather said goes; Helen can stay if she wants to," Gu Fan scratched his head, looking somewhat troubled, "But it’s tricky to explain this to my dad."
The old man became a bit annoyed, "What’s there to explain? I am an elder; your dad has to listen to me too. I was the one who washed his trousers when he wet the bed as a child."
"Oh, I see!" Gu Fan wiped away a bead of sweat and thought to himself, good lord, second granduncle truly had a fiery temper.
The old man realized he had lost his composure somewhat and steadied his emotions, trying to present a calm demeanor, "Alright, now that your grandfather is no longer here, I am the head of the Gu family. My word is final, no objections, right?"
"Of course not. As long as it’s good for the Gu family, I’m in agreement. But if, second granduncle, you want to force me to hand over the space-time door as an elder, sorry, I can’t do that," Gu Fan stated resolutely, which surprised the old man, prompting him to glance at Helen.
Helen shrugged helplessly, implying there was nothing she could do; Gu Fan was just that stubborn.
After pondering for a moment, the old man said, "Alright, as an elder, I will not trouble the younger generation."
At these words, Gu Fan heaved a small sigh of relief, truly dreading any unreasonable demands from the second granduncle.
"What do you think, Gu Fan? Are you willing to trust someone who has made sacrifices for the Gu family, for the lineage of your grandfather, like I have?" the old man asked seriously, staring intently at Gu Fan.
After thinking it over, Gu Fan asked, "I would like to know your stance, second granduncle. Are you prioritizing the interests of the Gu family, or those of Organization X?"
The old man and Helen both paused, momentarily unsure how to answer Gu Fan’s question.
Gu Fan continued, "I believe you didn’t establish Organization X, second granduncle. Perhaps you have a high status, but Organization X isn’t dictated by you alone, right? If Organization X intends to harm the Gu family, what will you do?"
This was indeed a difficult question to answer. The old man frowned deeply, knowing a bad response could destroy Gu Fan’s trust.
After much thought, the old man suddenly smiled faintly, "Everything I’ve done is for the Gu family. I will protect the Gu family. If you insist on opposing Organization X, then the one harming the Gu family is you, not me. So I hope you can consider my advice rationally and hand over the space-time door."
Gu Fan nodded, "Yes, it’s me who is opposing Organization X, dragging the Gu family into this. If I oppose Organization X, it means opposing you, second granduncle. Then please forgive my disrespect. After all, I can’t repay what the Gu family owes you."
"Gu Fan, am I really that obstinate? I’m the only one who can help you now. My request is simple; hand over the space-time door, so I have something to show to Organization X, and you can find Lin Xi and send Qian Ye where she needs to go," the old man said, seemingly perplexed.
"Sorry, but I promised David that I wouldn’t let the space-time door fall into your hands. I can’t break my word." Having said that, Gu Fan turned and walked away, knowing they had reached an impasse. However, before he left, he turned back to warn, "Second granduncle, if Organization X insists on taking it by force, I hope you won’t come, as I don’t want to clash with you. But you must tell Organization X, to defeat me, they need the ability to overcome the Destiny Stone. Ask them if they can do that."
Seeing that Gu Fan was really leaving, Helen started to panic, "Grandpa, what do we do now? This kid is too stubborn, not even giving you face."
"Let it go, for the sake of the Gu family, I’ll stake these old bones," the old man finally called out to Gu Fan, "Kid, you win. Anyway, I haven’t got much time left, so I’ll use Organization X’s resources and power to help you one last time. But I have a condition."
"What condition?" Gu Fan was thrilled to get help but felt nervous at the mention of a condition.
The old man took a good look at Helen, then sighed deeply, "Although I have some authority in Organization X, some in the organization have wanted to kick me out for a while now. I’m worried that if something happens to me, Helen will be in trouble too. Since Helen is part of the Gu family, I hope you’ll use every means possible to help her when that time comes, just as I have done for the Gu family."
Hearing this, Gu Fan saw the worry in the old man’s eyes and knew that there were power struggles within Organization X. Besides the old man and Helen, there could be even more formidable characters in Organization X.
"Alright, we’re all family. I’ll naturally do my part," Gu Fan declared earnestly and with conviction, which pleased the old man.
The old man nodded, "Alright then, Helen, the rest is up to you. Remember, time is of the essence."
"Got it, Grandpa," Helen replied, then noticed the old man coughing and struggling, which made her worry about his health condition.
As the old man recovered slightly, he looked at Gu Fan with a troubled expression and added, "Gu Fan, I don’t know what destiny the Destiny Stone has planned for you. Perhaps my joining Organization X was part of its design. Everything I have done, everything your grandfather did, and everything the people around you have done may have been to pave the way for you. But what will be the end of that path? Who will you bring to fulfillment? Have you thought about it?"
Gu Fan was stunned. He suddenly felt a strange sensation as if an invisible hand was manipulating him from behind, sending a chill down his spine as he broke out in cold sweat.
