Chapter 801: Chapter 801 Need Some Special Help
The past few days had not been easy, Gu Fan, Su Hui, and David were constantly on edge, fearing that if they were the first to doze off, that evil force would pounce on them.
Avoiding the main roads and not staying at hotels, they aimed for a secluded place where it would take some time for anyone to find them.
However, before that, they needed to replenish some supplies. So Gu Fan checked and decided to go to the nearest city, feeling they could take a chance as the enemy might not discover their whereabouts.
David turned on the car radio, and the news was all about the frequent gang fights in that city lately, with many casualties, warning people it was best not to go out at night.
Su Hui was somewhat frustrated, "What’s going on? We were just planning to head to that city, and it seems to be quite lively over there."
Gu Fan felt that the busier the gang fights were in that place, the less likely they would be noticed.
David had never been to that city and wasn’t familiar with the situation there but felt it was best to avoid trouble and suggested they leave immediately after buying supplies.
The three of them arrived in the city where gang fights were fierce, parked the car in a parking lot, then took to the streets. As it was daytime, the streets were still crowded, so there wasn’t much danger.
However, since Su Hui was so beautiful, she became a striking scene on the street, attracting the attention of all the passersby.
Gu Fan shook his head, "If we are discovered, it would definitely be because Sister Su is too beautiful."
In response, Su Hui said irritably, "Then you shouldn’t have brought me along. It would have been most appropriate to bring Lu Yi and Jie."
"Sorry, Sister Su, my fault for speaking thoughtlessly," Gu Fan immediately apologized, but Su Hui remained indignant and unappeased.
David was a little anxious, "What time is it, and you’re still messing around?"
Hearing this, Gu Fan stopped talking, and Su Hui apologized and stuck out her tongue as both followed David into a hotel.
It turned out that David knew the hotel owner, who would allow them to stay without registering—a perfect arrangement for concealing their tracks, which both Gu Fan and Su Hui greatly appreciated, feeling David finally proved useful.
Hearing this, David almost rolled his eyes. He thought that although he hadn’t been much help before, he certainly hadn’t been a hindrance.
The three of them stayed in a large suite with two rooms, one for Gu Fan and David, and one for Su Hui.
The hotel was large and housed many guests. To avoid unnecessary contact, once they entered their room, they stayed inside. The food was arranged by David with the hotel owner to be delivered by the staff.
Gu Fan called Du Jun and found that the arrangements over there were not yet settled. Following the standard procedure would take a long time, and Du Jun had no connections abroad to speed things up.
Gu Fan knew Du Jun had done his best and didn’t make it tougher for him. While asking Du Jun to continue trying, Gu Fan began to contemplate other plans.
After some thought, it seemed best to leave as soon as possible. Gu Fan had a premonition that since Organization X was so powerful, they would inevitably find them; they couldn’t wait for support from Du Jun’s side.
But were there any other options? David was just a scientist and didn’t have the contacts to help everyone smuggle the equipment out covertly.
With no other choice, Gu Fan had to call Leng Le again, greeting her very politely upon connecting, "Hello, ex-girlfriend. Since the day we parted, I’ve missed you terribly. Have you been well lately, not being chased, have you?"
"Thanks to you, since you’ve been gone, I’ve been living well. As for you calling me all of a sudden, have you come to your senses, deciding to accept our proposal for cooperation?" Leng Le said with a smile, her voice betraying her smugness.
Gu Fan scratched his head, "Let’s discuss it. If you offer a few other conditions that I find acceptable, then we can cooperate."
"Sorry, but for offending a colossal force out of the blue, without significant benefits in exchange, you’re being too hopeful, Gu Fan. If you still refuse our previous proposal, then don’t call my phone again." With that, Leng Le hung up.
Gu Fan was so angry he almost threw his phone; they were clearly taking advantage of the situation—utterly unscrupulous.
Su Hui interjected, "Even if Du Jun manages to fix it and sends his ship to pick us up, it will be tough to get past surveillance. If local authorities discover we’re transporting such cargo, would they allow it? And if we go through official channels, the likelihood of being discovered by Organization X is even greater. What if they intercept us in international waters?"
Yes, these were all things Gu Fan hadn’t considered. Taking official channels meant handling local inspections alone, which would be difficult—they needed to use some special channels, and someone experienced to manage this.
"What do we do, what do we do?" Gu Fan began to fret, endlessly pondering without coming up with any solutions. Although he believed he would eventually find a way out, at this very moment, his confidence was waning.
Night fell, and darkness enveloped the outside, clearing the streets of people in an instant. It seemed the recent gang fights had so unnerved the people that they truly dared not venture out casually.
Just when Gu Fan pondered how poor the city’s public security must be, a series of gunshots startled him, and Su Hui quickly closed the window and drew the curtains, signaling to Gu Fan and David not to look, lest they attract unnecessary trouble.
Gu Fan didn’t care how the gangs outside fared. He collapsed on the bed, began to think about what to do next; if they couldn’t find someone specialized in clandestine transportation to sneak them and their equipment out, they probably wouldn’t be able to leave at all.
Another series of gunshots outside disrupted Gu Fan’s thoughts, causing him to lament, "You gangs are always fighting and killing. Can’t you concentrate on your business? Although I suppose your business isn’t exactly noble either, but..."
"Wait a second!" Gu Fan suddenly felt a jolt of alarm and quickly got out of bed, lifting the curtains slightly. He stealthily peeked at the street outside.
Noticing Gu Fan’s movement, Su Hui frowned and approached him, asking, "Gu Fan, what are you doing?"
"Sister Su, don’t gangs usually engage in illegal activities like operating casinos or smuggling?" Gu Fan’s question was right up Su Hui’s alley, and she immediately grasped his intention.
"Gu Fan, are you thinking of getting in touch with the local gangs and then having them transport our stuff out of here?" Su Hui’s brow furrowed. Dealing with local gangs was a huge risk.
Gu Fan was aware of the risks but still wanted to give it a try. If there was a profit to be made, these gangs could become cooperative partners.
