Chapter 694: Chapter 694: The Number of Enemies is Increasing
Lu Yi and Jie eagerly came over to help, asking anxiously, "What’s wrong with you, Gu Fan? Don’t scare us like that."
Gu Fan took a deep breath, regained a bit of his color, and then forced a smile, "It’s nothing, I guess I’m just overworked. Sorry for worrying everyone." After that, Gu Fan stood up straight and insisted he needed no help.
"As long as you’re okay, that’s what matters. You really gave us a fright," Lu Yi and Jie released their held breath, not thinking much more of it.
Lin Xi looked at Gu Fan’s forced easygoing demeanor and bit back his worry, his mind filled with concern.
This secret base, Gu Fan had been here before, so everyone naturally followed his lead. Give or take the massive size and Gu Fan’s own unfamiliarity with the place, everyone presently viewed Gu Fan as their keystone.
Ironically, Gu Fan was aware of this, he had been mustering all his strength to lead the way, and then became too exhausted to continue.
Lu Yi got curious, "When did your stamina become so poor, Gu Fan?"
Gu Fan was about to explain, but Lin Xi interjected, "Alright, everyone has moments when they’re not at their best. Gu Fan must truly be exhausted."
"Fine then, seems like your girlfriend knows how to show you sympathy," Lu Yi concluded, teasing with a hint of envy.
With his back against the wall, Gu Fan was well aware of his own condition, but he realized it’s way worse than his expectations, unsure of how long he could hold on.
Caught unintentionally by Gu Fan, Lin Xi shot him a worried glance that startled him. He wondered anxiously whether Lin Xi already knew about his condition.
Just then, an eerie wail echoed through the area. This utter despair-filled cry was enough to make their hair stand on end, sending shivers down their spines.
Everyone turned towards the direction of the sound, Xu Haowen gulped and asked, "What was that sound just now?"
"I don’t know, but I think we should check it out." Gu Fan suggested, and to his surprise, despite the terror, no one objected.
So, they carefully followed Gu Fan, trying to control their breaths and keep their hearts from pounding. They gritted their teeth, mentally preparing for a fight.
As they drew closer, they started to hear pleas for mercy in a language they understood.
Hai frowned, "Goodness, those are my subordinates who came diving with us, what are they doing here?"
"Seems like our suspicions were right, this is indeed a trap. These mermaids have been summoned by Lisa. It’s always the enemy who remains the enemy." Gu Fan mused bitterly, his on-and-off alliance with Lisa had spun back to rivalry. The inconsistency was jarring, leaving him unsure how to handle it.
Upon reaching a corner, they saw two Wandering Sea Ghosts draining life energies from three human beings. One had already been drained dry, one was currently being drained while the other trembled uncontrollably.
"Six against three, we go in." Seeing his subordinates in danger, Hai surged forward without waiting for a consult with Gu Fan.
"Oh my, so impulsive." Lu Yi barely finished his words when Jie also followed Hai.
They were left with no choice but to join the fight. Gu Fan also advised, "Everyone, let’s wrap this up quickly, get done and get out of here."
The unsuspecting Wandering Sea ghosts that were busy feeding turned in shock upon seeing six men charging their way. They soon smiled dismissively, confident they could easily take them down.
"Hold on, is that Gu Fan?" The two Wandering Sea Ghosts blinked hard in disbelief, unsure how he could have possibly returned.
Hai single-handedly took down one ghost while Lin Xi simply flicked a finger sending the other spiraling in confusion.
Shamefully, the Wandering Sea Ghosts weren’t so easily defeated. Once they admitted their losses, they made a swift retreat.
At least they had a minor victory, but they were too late to save Hai’s second subordinate. Just as the first, they were drained dry of energy, leaving only the third one trembling dreadfully.
"Hey, wake up. It’s me Hai. Wake up!" Hai was shaking the man eagerly only to earn no response.
Hai reluctantly had no choice but to slap him up to consciousness.
"Brother Hai, it really is you." Realizing his rescue, the man couldn’t hold his tears.
Given the tense situation, they had to leave right away. Hai dragged him to his feet, walking and asking him offhandedly, "Anyone else who got kidnapped?"
"Quite a few, but, that woman in red said I wasn’t qualified to become a Wandering Sea Ghost, so she dumped me here where I was taken by the other ghosts," the man explained, which rightly made Gu Fan nervous, "Lisa is recruiting new members to expand the Wandering Sea Ghosts?"
Lin Xi shared his sentiment. "Given the loss they had suffered, Lisa has to recruit new members if they are to stand a chance against us."
Jie expressed his concern too. "If they managed to increase their force, we would be in trouble."
"So we can’t allow that to happen." Gu Fan’s brow furrowed. He stopped walking and asked the man, "Do you know where the others are being held?"
The man shook his head helplessly, "I have no clue. I was moved around a lot, but I did see the boss being captured."
"Wait, even the boss has been caught?" Everyone was in disbelief. How could that tyrant who didn’t play by the rules fall so low?
Gu Fan considered the possibility, it was plausible given that they were under water. The odds of the boss being powerless and suppressed here were high. Now that the boss had been captured, Lisa had found an infinite source of human Qi.
Bearing in mind that the boss was immortal, regardless of how much Qi is drained from him, he would remain unscathed. This means that the Qi he radiates is infinite. Capturing the boss was a dream come true for Lisa.
Hai was getting anxious. "Gu Fan, we must rescue the boss. We cannot let Lisa get a hold of him. Otherwise, granting Lisa an infinite supply of Qi isn’t good for us."
"Indeed, the boss being captured is no good news for us. However, if we manage to free him, he could be hugely beneficial to us. After all, we’re not underwater here. The boss could be of great help." After finishing his piece, Gu Fan sought everyone’s opinion, seeing no objection to rescue this Big Devil.
