Chapter 642: Chapter 642: The More You Try to Reason, the More Chaotic It Becomes
In the heart of the Triangle Sea Area, a location that turns faces pale at its mention, a region that has seen countless ships enter but never leave, two cargo vessels were sailing today, one after the other. Anyone seeing such a sight would surely be taken aback.
Gu Fan rose early, stretched lazily, and then headed to the dining room for breakfast. But he wanted to escape as soon as he entered, because his current girlfriend Lin Xi and his ex-girlfriend Leng Le were both there. Neither woman was easy to deal with.
The reason Leng Le was on this ship, not with her boss and Hai, is because Leng Le proposed strengthening the foundations of their cooperation. Leng Le came over to Gu Fan’s side and, in return, Gu Fan had to send someone to the boss’s side as well.
After mulling it over, they decided to draw lots. By popular demand, the doomsayer Lu Yi got drawn to go over, which meant that whenever he opened his mouth, he would be the boss’s problem, not theirs.
Out of friendship, Jie personally sent a message to Hai, asking him to take care of Lu Yi and not give him a hard time. Hai assured him he would.
Now, Gu Fan sat openly beside Lin Xi, but the atmosphere was incredibly tense. Lin Xi and Leng Le both seemed to be ignoring each other. Yet, if they weren’t on speaking terms, why did they insist on sitting together?
"Oh dear, I think I’m full. I’ll head to the deck for my morning workout," Sister Su said this, cramming the last bite of food into her mouth and then rushing off before anyone could comment.
Gu Fan hurriedly grabbed her: "Wait a minute, Sister Su. I’ve recently hit a hurdle in my morning workout. I wanted to ask for your advice, if you don’t mind..."
"Scram..." Sister Su bluntly interrupted Gu Fan’s plea for help, leaving him feeling dejected.
The others also sensed that the situation wasn’t good, so they all found an excuse to leave. Before leaving, however, Qin Jia was kind enough to remind Gu Fan, "Remember your status."
That remark woke Gu Fan up. There was no need to fret over the two women, nor worry about being caught between them. After all, Lin Xi was his girlfriend now. Naturally, he had to stand by her side against Leng Le.
Once he realized this, Gu Fan suddenly felt relaxed. He was confident he could handle this situation. His lips curled into a smug smile, his heart filled with self-satisfaction.
Leng Le seemed to notice something. She narrowed her eyes and said: "Gu Fan, I’ve been waiting for you here for a while. Why are you only coming out now? Are you afraid to face me?"
Hearing this, Gu Fan’s heart sank. Leng Le was making her move, and it wasn’t on Lin Xi.
Gu Fan continually reminded himself to stay calm. Then, he responded composedly, "I overslept, that’s all. As for you, there’s nothing I’m afraid to face. We’re finished."
At his words, Lin Xi’s eyes lit up. That’s exactly what she wanted to hear - an uncompromising response that drew a clear line between Gu Fan and his ex-girlfriend.
But Leng Le wouldn’t let go of Gu Fan that easily. With a pitiful expression on her face, she said, "It’s easy being a man. You take responsibility when you feel like it, and just toss aside those you don’t want anymore. A few days ago, you asked Lisa to help mediate between us. But once you’ve had your fill, you just turn your back and deny all of it, saying it’s over."
Gu Fan immediately frowned. "What mediation? That was just a stalling tactic. If I hadn’t used it, would we have been able to last as long as we did? Lisa would have drained us dry. And even though we were locked in a room together, it was all for show for Lisa’s benefit. Nothing happened between us. I didn’t take advantage of you at all."
"Oh, really? What about when you searched me for the map and notes?" As soon as Leng Le said this, Lin Xi was shocked, and turned to look at Gu Fan.
Gu Fan immediately tried to explain, "Please, I only checked your coat pocket. It wasn’t a full-body search."
"I never said you performed a full-body search, why are you getting so worked up?" Leng Le’s words left Gu Fan steaming. She was clearly picking fights on purpose.
At this moment, Leng Le put on a confused expression. "But there was that one day when I was a bit out of it. I can’t remember what happened or didn’t happen."
Gu Fan immediately stated firmly: "Well, I wasn’t out of it. I’m not someone who would take advantage of a situation. Nothing happened between us."
"Really? Nothing happened?" Leng Le’s question carried deep implications. Perhaps nothing occurred between them when they were held captive by the Wandering Sea Ghosts, but many things both appropriate and inappropriate happened during the times they were together.
The previously confident Gu Fan was now a little deflated. Lin Xi was keen to pick up on the change in his demeanor, too.
"Gu Fan, when I was with you, I never cared about the nature of your relationship with your ex-girlfriend or why you broke up. I didn’t know how far things had progressed between the two of you. I wonder, Lin Xi, if you care about such things." Leng Le’s words were filled with defiance, projecting subtle innuendoes.
Gu Fan felt a chill crawl up his spine. This question, no matter how Lin Xi replied, put both of them in a losing position.
"You didn’t mind because you got close to Gu Fan with less than honor intentions. You never loved him. I’m not like you." Lin Xi’s words not only turned the tide but also put her on a stronger footing against Leng Le.
Internally, Gu Fan gave Lin Xi a thumbs up. He hoped Leng Le would stop there, for his heart couldn’t take any more.
Leng Le gave a faint smile, "Fair enough. I can see that you’re in love. However, Lin Xi, I must remind you. You’re beautiful, don’t cheapen yourself for Gu Fan. Men are all the same. Once they’ve had you, they stop cherishing you." With that, Leng Le left.
Upon seeing Leng Le leave, Lin Xi began to sulk. Gu Fan rushed to console her, "Alright, don’t bother trying to understand that kind of bad woman. She just came here to cause trouble. The angrier you are, the happier she is."
"I know, but I’m angry. If it weren’t for Lu Yi, I would have thrown Leng Le into the sea." Lin Xi couldn’t forget Leng Le’s provocative gaze, and she also wondered what could have happened between Gu Fan and Leng Le during their time together.
Gu Fan immediately declared his position: "I can swear to you right now that I only have you in my heart. And, by comparison, I’ve found that even ten Leng Les added together can’t compare to you."
"Really?" Lin Xi asked, looking half convinced. Gu Fan affirmed his stance once more, "Absolutely true. Otherwise, why would I break up with her? Even though we were locked together in a room, I didn’t even want to touch her. It’s all because my heart is full of you."
Having heard this, Lin Xi seemed somewhat satisfied and gave Gu Fan a pass, allowing him to breathe a sigh of relief. However, he didn’t dare to completely let down his guard. Who knows what tricks Leng Le might pull next?
