Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 625: Bad Ideas
Chapter 625: Chapter 625: Bad Ideas
Gu Fan felt temporarily safe. After all, he had bonded with the wandering sea ghosts before and was confident that they wouldn’t drain him before they drained everyone else. So, he figured he could relax, rest, and then join forces with Lin Xi and the rest against them when the time came.
Seeing Gu Fan sprawled serenely on the floor, legs kicked up leisurely, Leng Le couldn’t help herself anymore. She switched to a sweet lilting voice and said, "Gu Fan, we are acquaintances, you wouldn’t just watch me die, would you?"
"Oh, what do you want me to do?" Gu Fan feigned confusion while Leng Le gritted her teeth bitterly. That bastard Gu Fan clearly knew her meaning but was pretending to be dense. It was infuriating, yet, given the circumstances, she was reliant on him. So, she continued in her syrupy sweet tone, "Come on, I was once your girlfriend. Can you speak up for me when those things come to drain me?"
"Oh, is that so?" Gu Fan feigned a troubled expression. "They agreed not to hurt me and my companions, but are you one of my companions? Aren’t we enemies? Why should I save an enemy? Give me a good reason."
"What do you mean... you..." Leng Le was infuriated, but catching her tone, she hastily stopped herself and smiled ingratiatingly instead, "Sometimes we just need to be flexible, right? Even enemies can become friends. Like you and me, especially in this situation, we should help each other. I’m not holding past grievances, so why are you, a man, being so petty?"
Gu Fan shook his head, "You just said that helping each other is the way to turn enemies into friends, but what can you do to help me?"
"I... I can..." Leng Le really had to dig deep for an answer before reluctantly replying, "The Female Demon wants to be fashionable, right? I can offer advice in that department. After all, I’m a modern, fashionable woman."
"Yeah, but you’re also a villainess. Letting you get close to the Female Demon might give you the opportunity to scheme with her against us." Gu Fan’s resolute expression annoyed Leng Le, and she blurted out, "I didn’t realize you were so cold-blooded, Gu Fan. How did I ever fall for you?"
Gu Fan immediately retorted, "Please, when we were together, it wasn’t because you fell for me, but because you were infiltrating my life."
Listening to Gu Fan and Leng Le’s bickering, Jie sighed exasperatedly, "Could the two of you stop fighting? Do you understand the situation we’re in?"
Just then, a shrill wail echoed through the area, a sure sign of an approaching sea ghost. Everyone instantly tensed up, unsure of who would be the unlucky one this time.
Sure enough, one person was singled out. No amount of screaming or struggling could save him, as his Qi was drained by the sea ghost and his body collapsed in on itself.
Seeing this, everyone swallowed nervously. Even if they weren’t chosen this time, what about next? If they don’t escape, they’re all doomed.
Lisa walked in. Her face bathed in sinister delight, she said, "Sorry if that startled you. Ideally, we wouldn’t have to use such methods, but we don’t have the luxury of being flesh and blood like you."
What could Gu Fan say to that? He simply nodded and asked, "What brings you here this time, Lisa? Are you here to chat, or maybe you want to know more about the outside world?"
Lisa shook her head and said, "Neither. I’ve decided to take your advice and keep up with the times. The first step is to change my clothes, and the only modern woman we have here is Leng Le. I will drain her and have you wash her clothes so I can wear them."
"Good thinking! I didn’t realize you had laundry detergent here," Gu Fan responded, completely throwing Lisa off. "What’s laundry detergent?" she asked.
Gu Fan explained the concept and the virtues of laundry detergent, emphasizing how challenging it would be to clean the grubby clothes on that morally questionable woman without it.
After some thought, Lisa didn’t seem to care, "Well, I was going to drain someone anyways, might as well be this woman."
Hearing that, the blood drained from Leng Le’s face and she sent desperate pleas Gu Fan’s way.
Gu Fan quickly intervened: "Lisa, since I’ve agreed to serve you, can you spare my companions?"
"Didn’t I promise you that earlier?" Lisa replied then, glancing between Gu Fan and Leng Le, she seemed to recognize the complicated relations between them.
Summoning all his audacity, Gu Fan chimed in: "Actually, I know that woman. She’s one of my companions."
This caused Lisa to furrow her brows in displeasure: "I’ve already let you and one of your companions off the hook. You haven’t helped me catch anyone and now you want me to spare yet another? There’s a limit to a person’s greed."
"You’re right! I was being greedy," Gu Fan conceded, feeling disgruntled at being lectured by a sea ghost.
With Lisa unmistakably still eyeing Leng Le, Gu Fan proposed an audacious plan: "I have another way to provide you with souls."
"Oh, do tell," Lisa leaned in, eyes sparkled with interest.
Gu Fan gestured towards Leng Le with a sly grin on his face, instantly sending chills down her spine.
He then outlined his idea: "You need a lot of live people, right? If that woman and I have a child, and then our child has children, you will have an endless supply of souls to harvest. Will that work?"
Lisa practically burst out laughing, "That’s an amazing idea, Gu Fan! Why haven’t we thought of this? It’s better to breed people than to scrounge around for them. This is why you’re a genius!"
"Good, move them to their own room quickly. Let’s get started as soon as possible. Waiting ten months and then more years for the child to grow may be long, but we should at least give it a try." Lisa left briskly with this proclamation, ready to prepare.
Leng Le stared at Gu Fan in utter disbelief. But Gu Fan thick-skinnedly nudged her, "As you can see, I stepped up to save you in the end. That goes to show how noble I am."
"You, you..." Leng Le was too exasperated to even turn her anger into words.
Jie couldn’t help but admire Gu Fan, "That was quite the move, your method of extracting protection fees."
"What are you talking about? It’s just a stalling tactic." Gu Fan said soberly, determined to endure until Lin Xi and the Boss came to their rescue.
