Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 621: What a Bait
Chapter 621: Chapter 621: What a Bait
Early in the morning, while everyone was still in their dreams, a sudden swaying sensation woke several individuals. They got out of their beds to see what was going on.
The captain stepped outside onto the deck and saw that the once stranded cargo ship had moved back to the sea, a look of disbelief filled his face.
At that moment, Gu Fan walked over, greeting him warmly while sipping coffee, "Good morning, Captain. I’ve just spoken with the Boss who has officially appointed you as Captain of this ship. We’re placing all our hopes on you."
"Good...okay..." The captain hadn’t fully recovered from the shock yet, wondering how the ship got back into the sea while they were asleep.
The Boss, taking advantage of everyone’s sleep and the rising tide, had pushed the ship back into the sea himself. This immense effort had left the Boss drained, currently resting in his cabin.
"It’s rather gloomy today, there’s a good chance of fog tonight, we can start planning," Gu Fan said, calmly but with a sense of foreboding, before walking away.
"Wait a minute." The captain immediately called Gu Fan back and asked, "Who exactly are you all? Why did you come to the Triangle Sea Area?"
Gu Fan responded directly: "Didn’t Du Jun tell you? We’re here to sightsee."
"Sightseeing?" The captain looked skeptical. After experiencing so much peril and crisis, all led and overcome by Gu Fan, he still seemed like a young man in his early twenties. How could he be so astute?
Gu Fan seemed to see what the captain was thinking, and kindly advised, "Please don’t overthink it, captain. Focus primarily on navigating the ship."
"Thank you for your reminder, I will do as you advised." The captain, thinking about the possibility of encountering fog tonight, felt his heart pounding.
Before long, people started getting up. Seeing the ship normally floating on the sea, they were all relieved and excited - it felt much safer being on the ship.
However, Gu Fan explained the plan: the reason the ship was returned to the sea was to serve as bait, to lure whatever was in the fog.
Upon knowing this plan, everyone became tense. Lu Yi spoke out, "Gu Fan, you’re not planning to make the bait more realistic by keeping a few people on the ship, are you?"
"That’s exactly what I was thinking." Gu Fan had barely finished when he saw the startled faces of everyone, none of whom were eager to volunteer as bait.
Gu Fan reassured them: "Don’t worry. The first choices for bait are naturally the Boss and me."
"What?" Everyone was stunned, they couldn’t believe Gu Fan was willing to risk himself.
Gu Fan explained that since he had made the plan, he should be the bait. Plus, there would be a tracking device on him, so everyone else could follow it.
Lin Xi objected instantly: "No, it’s too dangerous. I will go with you."
Gu Fan shook his head: "That’s not possible. You’re supposed to rescue me. If you’re caught as well, who will rescue me?"
Everyone realized the truth in his words. Both the Boss and Lin Xi had the heavy task of rescuing others, they couldn’t take unnecessary risks.
Su Hui raised a question: "But if there are only you and the Boss as bait, won’t it be too few? The enemy might not be tempted. I suggest we should add one more." When Su Hui finished, everyone looked at Lu Yi.
Lu Yi firmly opposed: "I’m not afraid, but we’re supposed to be cooperating. Why should only our side be caught?"
The Boss spoke up: "You’re worried I will abandon you, aren’t you? Don’t worry, I promise I will do my utmost to rescue you."
"I have serious trust issues with you," Lu Yi said, echoing the sentiments of the group. Who knows if the Boss might use this opportunity to get rid of Gu Fan?
Without a basis of trust, the plan was difficult to execute. Hai stepped forward, declaring his readiness to be bait with Gu Fan. This way, if the Boss’s most trusted aides, Leng Le and Hai were captured, even the ruthless Boss would be forced to take action, else it would break his subordinates’ morale. Who would then do his bidding?
But Gu Fan deemed Hai too skilled to be bait. His role was to rescue everyone, not to be captured and wait for rescue.
Jie thought about it and decided that he was the most suitable bait.
"No, I disagree," Hai immediately objected. He knew the danger and would not allow his younger brother to take such a risk.
But Gu Fan thought Jie was the best candidate. No one else objected, so the plan was unanimously agreed upon.
Well, with the plan in place, everyone dispersed to make preparations.
Hai called Jie back, who was walking away calmly. Hai wanted to say something but ended up not saying anything. The situation was awkward. In the end, Hai could only say helplessly, "Take care of yourself."
"Alright, I got it." Jie responded indifferently and then left.
Watching Jie’s receding figure, Hai felt a sense of unease. He felt that the distance between him and his brother was becoming increasingly wide, as if they were becoming strangers.
At this point, the Boss came over and clapped Hai’s shoulder, comforting him, "If you are genuinely worried about your brother, get some good rest and rejuvenate. My efforts alone won’t be enough for tonight’s mission. We will need you, Lin Xi, and Su Hui."
"I know, I won’t let you down, we will rescue my brother and Leng Le." Although Hai responded in this way, he felt an undercurrent of worry. If even the Boss had failed before, how much could they achieve even with Lin Xi added to the equation?
Meanwhile, Lin Xi kept advising Gu Fan to be careful, warning him that if he found anything wrong, he should run away immediately. There would always be another chance for rescue.
Gu Fan agreed to all her instructions. However, deep down, they were both clearly aware that once the plan started, there was no turning back. Either the plan would succeed, and Gu Fan would return with everyone, or the plan would fail, leaving Gu Fan forever stranded on the large wooden ship.
Gu Fan recalled the chilling sensation when his throat was clutched the first time they encountered the fog, making him hesitative. To be honest, he wasn’t so sure about it all.
"Acting tough, huh?" Gu Fan admitted to a certain extent. But he wanted to prove if the Destiny Stone could truly change his fate, he would not falter here.
